Wait. Are you saying there was a 10/20 LHE going at the Lodge, or you got a list going (or something else completely)? When was this?

Couple weeks ago, posted above. We went to the Lodge and they were super-nice and started a 10/20 list on request. Boardergirl said they were super-rude and wouldn't do so for 2/5/100. I was just mentioning that it wasn't my experience.

I have a question im new to colorado springs and i would like to know what is the best pokerroom as far as being busy in cripple creek. Prefer playing the 1/2-spread or 2/5 spread. also what is the rake as well.

Re: Colorado Poker (Black Hawk, Central City, Cripple Creek)

Sorry to ask such a newb question, but I am getting different info on how Colorado poker is played with respect to betting by looking at this site, and other internet sites.

The 1/2-100 spread for instance. Does the 100 stand for the initial buy-in or max bet? I had read that $5 is the max bet, is that still true for all levels of "No Limit" holdem? Is there a cap on number of raises per round. You know what I am asking, so help a non-Colorado person understand so when I do visit, I am not looked at as a newb.

Re: Colorado Poker (Black Hawk, Central City, Cripple Creek)

$1/$2-$100 spread limit means there is a $1 small blind, a $2 big blind, that the maximum bet is $100, and the maximum raise amount is $100. Generally buy-ins are uncapped.

All rules are just like No Limit with the exception of the maximums on the bet/raise amount.

You can also find $2/$5-$100 games.

Back in the day, before the max bet size law was changed, The™ game in Colorado was $2-$5 spread limit. There was a single $2 blind, and the max bet/raise was $5. Anything you read about a maximum raise/bet of $5 refers to that time.

There are casinos (The Reserve in Central City, formerly Fortune Valley, formerly Harvey's) that typically play spread limit games like the "old school" game. I believe (regs can correct me) that The Reserve's standard cash game is $1/$2-$10 ($1 SB, $2 BB, max bet/raise of $10).

Althought Max bet/reraise is $100, im pretty sure there is no buy in cap to any of the games

UFC fans: Ameristar did NOT renew their contract. So dont plan on watching UFC there unless it is on FOX channel.

Lame. UFC is a pretty big draw to the Ameristar. I guess they don't think they need it (at whatever the price is). That's pretty disappointing.

Welcome to the neighborhood. By far the busiest poker room in CC is Midnight Rose. They pretty much always have 1/2-100SL running. Only other poker room in town worth checking out (imo) is Double Eagle. They only get 1/2-100 running on the weekends, and it's hit-or-miss even then, but the room is better run IMO, with better comps and food.

Rake is 10% up to 4$ plus 2$ BBV drop at Midnight Rose and 3$+2 at Double Eagle. Double Eagle also does no drop until a post flop bet has been called or raised, which helps a lot with the inability to table select, imo.

OTOH, the degen action tables are at the Rose, and though swingy, offer enough value to overcome the rake disadvantage if you can get onto the right table.

2/5-100 runs pretty much never in CC.

I'll be heading to Denver for the end of the week (2/8-2/12) and I'll be looking to grind Thursday and Friday. Which casinos have the best 2/5 games? I appreciate any input.

Pretty much the only casino that has anything higher than 1/2 is Ameristar. That would be the place to go.

Anything you are seeing that says the max bet is $5 is seriously out of date. Until a few years ago (August 2009 IIRC), the max bet was $5, which was then increased to $100. Prior to the increase, the most common game was $2-$5 spread limit holdem (commonly referred to as "2/5"). This game featured (usually) a single $2 blind with spread limit betting of $2-$5. In practice, nearly all bets and raises were $5. After the change, spread limit games with a maximum bet of $100 became the norm. 1/2-100 (Blinds of $1 and $2 with $2-100 spread limit betting) is spread at most casinos with poker. 2/5-100 ($2 and $5 blinds with $5-100 spread limit betting) is also spread, primarily at Ameristar. This game is also commonly referred to as "2/5" but it does tend to play somewhat bigger than the old "2/5". Note that Century casino in Central City still spreads the old "2/5". For reasons that I cannot fathom, apparently some people actually like that game.

Golden gates sometimes gets 2/5-100 or 2/5-50 Omaha games going, but rarely if ever holdem, though the 1/2 "Mississippi Straddle" (straddling on the button) games at the Gates sometimes get pretty wild.

Re: Colorado Poker (Black Hawk, Central City, Cripple Creek)

So after my last few trips to Vegas, my results for whatever reason have been much better at 2/5 vs 1/2.

So my question to you guys: what's the biggest difference in BH between the 1/2 and 2/5 games?

I'm partial to the Ameristar these days, but have only played 1/2. Half the table are usually shortstacks, and lots of tight regs just waiting for the nuts. Is the play wilder with more gambool at the 2/5 tables? Are there a lot of $100max bets? Obviously it all depends on table selection and time of day / week, but just wanted some experienced observations from y'all...
Thanks.

The max bet comes into play rarely in 1/2 and often in a good 2/5 game.

Re: Colorado Poker (Black Hawk, Central City, Cripple Creek)

It is so much easier to have great run in 2/5 but the suck outs will e big too. So, if you can bring a 1000 for a night I would suggest 2/5. But if you have 200-400 better stay with 1/2. Its all about your bankroll or money you can afford to loose. I usually play at the highest limit I can because it means that I will play against more rich people than grinders but please don't critique those players then they do bid bad beat on you that's the only reason we play poker. I hate to see players from 1/2 sitting at 2/5 game and then complain about stupid calls and suck outs and critiquing wild players.

Please, please don't kill our game! If you don't want to gamble just pretend you do and compliment crazy players.

yeah, was thinking the same thing. so gonna try my luck at the 2/5 game tonight at the Ameristar. and don't worry - i'm not one to tap the glass (especially since i'm probably one of the guppies). i definitely go out of my way to be friendly and compliment big wins, even if they did suck out on me.

planning on initial $500 buy in, with another $500 if i need to re-load. is there max buy-in, or what's the avg at the 2/5 tables?

Re: Colorado Poker (Black Hawk, Central City, Cripple Creek)

I am not aware of a max buy-in at any limits at any casino in Blackhawk. Did this change at Ameristar? Last time I played at Ameri, there was not a max buy-in at 2/5. The only thing that changed at Ameristar was cash doesn't play, which is a pain in the butt.

Minimum BI for 2/5 is $200 no max BI. Have seen people sit in with over $2k. At 1/2 min is $60 and again no max BI.

Will try to make there on saturday.

Good luck, let us know either way please. Also, I would suggest 10/20 rather than 8/16, people have this weird phobia of $2 chips (I don't even know if Ameristar has them??)
