Anyone been to the Isle lately? To my surprise they're back on Bravo again, along with Lady Luck. Isle had three 1/2 games going (midday on a Thursday) with two on the list for 2/5. Looks like they're offering some new high hand promos as well with a descending bad beat. I had no idea they were getting games again.

Am unclear about what they did wrong. You showed up at a certain time (not sure if that was late or early), tournament was in some way full, and they offered you an alternate spot. You declined. What did they do to make you publicly declare you'll never do business with them again?

room was running cash games and satellites during the busiest MTT day of the year while leaving 100+ players to wait 4-5 hours to play. dumb.

Did they advertise a fixed field size? If you were a satty player or a cash player, would you have been equally mad if they shut down everything else to have max MTT tables? You came up this time and they had tables for other things going, instead of shutting down the whole place to do your stuff. OK.

It seems like you're mad that they didn't optimize the day to make it possible for you to show up at the last minute and still have an open seat for you. Maybe that's unfair of me to read it that way? If they advertised X and did Y, your anger seems reasonable. If they said "we're having X tables and then taking a wait list", then it seems like they just did what they said. FWIW, I always thought show up/register early was a big deal up there. Uniformed opinion, because I've only ever played cash.

If you had the part where they didn't do what they said they'd do, I'm on board.

I can see your point about the satellites, but expecting GG to close cash games (that make them money) to open tournament tables (that don't really make them money) is pretty unrealistic.

For what it's worth I played on Friday and was seated at table 1 which is usually exclusively a cash game table and I've never seen it closed for a tournament before. There was only one cash game that I saw running and the tail end of a satellite from earlier in the morning. Yes there was a very long alternate list and it took about an hour and a half to get a seat having arrived around 2 o'clock.

I found the floor to be pretty helpful with estimates for the next day, and showed up early enough to get right in, and didn't see anything out of line as far as running other games. I find it laughable that there are people who cry foul over this when it's obvious they did no research beforehand or did so much as pick up the phone and ask.

Suggestion - if you're planning on playing a multi-day tournament at the Gates, and not on day 1A, check Bravo or their twitter feed the day before to see the field size and gauge interest.

I checked Bravo on Thursday night, planning to play Friday. Saw the total entry count at 270, knew that it was going to be busy. Couldn't get there before the start on Friday, wasn't surprised by the wait, wished I could have been 20 minutes earlier. Surprised by the 20K starting stack, expecting 30K, but that was my damn own fault.

You know they are going to run at least 1 cash game. And the early satty was still running two tables. Leaves them with 15. They ended up with 270 entries on Friday too. No way you were going to walk in at noon and get a seat. (Nor are you going to get a seat anywhere soon at Ameristar, with 20-40 on the list already).

Good news is there is still good demand for poker in CO. At least it wasn't the total cluster of a few years ago when they kept 4-5 cash games going during the HPT main.

Read back a bit in this thread and saw mention of a 2-5/100 O8 game. Does that still run at Ameristar Black Hawk? I check their Bravo once in a while and haven't seen it. Maybe there are certain days/times it goes?

Any other omaha action in this state? High only, high low, fixed limit or spread limit, all good for me. Cheers

Yes the O8 game runs on fridays and Saturdays at astar. I haven't seen it anywhere else. There are several underground games that play omaha games. You gotta meet the right people to get in those games though.

5-10 O8 with a full kill runs every Saturday at the Midnight Rose in Cripple Creek.

Can anyone weigh in on what the dealers choice at the Gates is like? What games are commonly played? Does it play decently big? Thanks

It's 80-90% O8 with a bit of Omaha hi, pineapple H/L and stripper H/L. The game pretty much centers around a few select players. If they aren't there if the game is either super dead, or not going at all.

Stripper H/L? I'm not familiar. Can you briefly explain the rules? I actually tried to Google them, but as you might imagine I didn't get any useful results.

I would prefer a 100% crazy pineapple game but I know that won't happen, hence settling for a mixed game. I got the crazy pineapple game to run at the Lodge 3 times in 2 years, and then it never happened again. Most fun I've had in a cash game in Blackhawk.

It's an interesting thought that comes to mind how the VAST majority (over 99%) of the poker playing community in Colorado, and most everywhere else, are only comfortable playing their same old game day in and day out, for decades. Scared or unwilling to try something else. You look around at most of the players at your table and they all look bored, not enjoying themselves, not having fun like they did when they first starting playing. Yet, there they are, playing the same game everyday.

You'd think people would want to have that fun spark again. That feeling of shear excitement of playing poker again. I make a list for these games nearly every time I go up, have them make an announcement, and rarely do I get more than 3 on the interest list.

I'm here on a ski trip until Friday. It looks like the gates is the only reasonable option for tournament play? Which day of the week is most likely to fire? Anyone want to hang out and smoke?

Are all you guys from Denver? I always see posts about Golden Gates & Ameristar. Sucks living down in the Springs seems like my only option is the Midnight Rose.

From Boulder. Golden Gates is known for tourneys. They also do $500 dollar an hour high hand on friday and $600 dollar an hour high hand on Saturday. Isle and Lady luck just got on Bravo. Isle started some new promotions. Monte Carlo Board and Aces cracked pays out $100 during the week.

The fri $100 40k chips at the Rose is enjoyable. Only 50 last night but have seen it push 80. The turnout at the Gates series (HPT, MSPT, ) proves Colorado will support tour stops. ( wsopc ? ) Need a venue that can support the crowds that are ready to come out. The Gates usually does a great job with what they have but as some earlier posts, it can be frustrating with the alternate list. I drive 4 hours to play in those series.

Is anyone going to the Colorado State Poker Championship at the midnight rose in Cripple Creek? I saw they posted the schedule on Hendon Mob. Looked at the past two CSPC on Hendon and the weekday events looked more like 2-3 table Sit and gos with such small entry fields.
