IMHO, I think there's always a risk of disrupting a good table dynamic by griping, especially if the person in the conversation with the dealer is one of the ones making the game so lucrative.

That said, a self-effacing question like, "Dealer, I've lost track. Can you tell me where the action is?" might get things moving again without ruffling too many feathers.

Just a thought.

I assume Smokey knows betters, but outing regs without their permission is a sure fire way to get yourself banned. So I would advise he not do that.

I've always found a simple "Where's the action?" or "Action's good." has done the trick. Takes care of the problem without looking like a jerk.

Is there another regional tournament series coming up at the Golden Gates?

-Do you need to have a 4WD and/or have chains to make the trip when it's snowing?

-How scary/dangerous is that drive? I'm researching the shuttle because that feels like the safer play, especially since I've never really driven in the snow.

-If easy access to the casinos is the most important factor, where would you suggest living (don't want to live in a tiny mountain town)? It seems like Lakewood or Golden is the answer? Anywhere else I should consider? Cost of living is also important, I'd like to get a 1-2 BR apartment in the $1,000/month ballpark.

Thanks!
Good luck finding anything besides a closet studio for under 1k/month unless you want to live off East Colfax or Aurora. More like $12-1500.

I moved to Lakewood about 2 years ago and found multiple 1BR apartments in the 780-850 range.

Obviously some regs at my table as the dealer and a few players are having rather personal conversations. It got to the point where the dealer was more interested in telling vacation stories than focusing on the hand and dealing. This noticeably slowed the game and we would just sit there at the completion of each street waiting on the dealer.

Another instance, our dealer and one of the floors began chatting, and the dealer becomes obviously distracted. It gets so bad that he actually looses track of where we were at in the hand and begins taking action like the hand is over when we hadn't seen the river.

The table I was at was essentially a license to print money so I didn't want to make a big stink about it, but thought it would be nice if the dealers were slightly more attentive to what's going on at the table. Discretely inform another floor person about the situation. Whenever I see this happening I put an end to it.

The rental market in Denver metro area has gotten a lot tighter than it was two years ago. I don't think you're going to fine much in the 780-850 range now.

You rarely will need 4wd or chains to get to Blackhawk. Good winter or all-season tires should be enough. Front wheel drive is generally better than rear wheel drive.

I don't want to derail with a detailed lesson in driving on snow, but the general rule is to do everything gently so that the wheels don't spin or slide. Keep a light touch on the gas and brakes, leave plenty of following distance anticipate situations so you don't have to brake hard, and take turns slower than you would on dry paving. Antilock brakes are helpful. The biggest problem with snowy weather is that frequently accidents will cause traffic jams and delays.

Thanks for this. My gf and I will be in Denver in a few weeks and I'm hoping to get in some gambling. Coming from San Diego I've never driven in snowy winter conditions.

Looking at the map it seems like there's a few casinos in this area (Blackhawk, golden gate, canyon, etc) We like to play video poker, and I just recently started dabbling into craps. Can anyone suggest which casino would be best for us? Are 9/6VP games available anywhere? How many craps tables does each casino have? Thanks!

9/6 VP available at the Isle at the bar in the poker room. A former dealer there used to tell me that was the only place in town with 9/6. Not sure if true or not, but I haven't seen it anywhere else.

Ameristar would be your best bet for craps. 3 tables (I believe most other places have 2 if memory serves me). All 3 will most likely be full Fri & Sat nights until around 2am-ish.

I disagree. Ameristar craps is usually $10 minimum (there might be one $5 minimum table (out of three) on week nights, but it's usually full. Most other places have $5 minimum with some $2 or $3 minimum on week nights. Almost all have 10x odds. Monarch has triple 12 on Field.

9/6 Jacks quarter triple play is available on 2nd floor bar at the Lady luck. There is also 9/6 Jacks fifty play dimes on second floor at monarch, as well as Not So Ugly Deuces at both 50 play and 100 play dime machines on second floor at Monarch (100 plays have 9/5 Jacks rather than 9/6). The Isle poker room bar has a variety of good pay tables in quarter and dollar single play, including 9/6 Jacks, Not so Ugly Deuces, 9/7 Double Bonus, 10/6 Double Double Bonus and 8/5 bonus. 8/5 Bonus and 9/6 Jacks can be found on a few scattered machines elsewhere.

Outside of Golden Gates, what room regularly has tournaments on Friday? Last time I was up the noon at The Lodge didn't go.

If he is looking in Lakewood and Golden, he should not have too tough of a time finding something right around $900-$1050, but the as has already been alluded too, the rental market in Denver and surrounding areas, has seen a HUGE boom for the "Landlords/Owners", not so much new renters. However, I will say that for the budget you suggested, you ARE certainly looking in the right areas of "Denver".

Good Luck. PM me if u are interested in some "CardClub/HomeGame" action when you get into town.

BTW, did anyone ever get their hands or eyes on one of the new schedules for upcoming "Colorado Poker Championship" series @ Golden Gates? (If that's what it is...Possibly HPT?).

If anyone from Gates or a good samaritan could post a link to said schedule, it would be much appreciated. I'll do some digging and report back here if I come across any useful information, myself. Thanks.

Believe this round of CPC ended on 12/16. Looks like the HPT event runs 2/12 - 2/22.

Are there any places closer to Black Hawk than Golden that are also nice to live and not completely in the middle of nowhere?

Not really. Nederland is equidistant but up high and smallish/quirky. It's too mountainous.

There are a couple of apartment complexes in Central City and you might occasionally find a house for rent, though I'm not sure if Central City would qualify for "not in the middle of nowhere". There is pretty much nothing between Golden and Blackhawk/Central City. There are some small mountain towns along I-70, but I don't know how much is available there in terms of rentals.
