When did Lodge start doing high hand? I havent been in some months, but it was just quads. Are they not doing quads promos anymore?

Been a few months. Gates initially started offering a high hand jackpot back in December. Ameristar & Lodge soon followed suit doing the same within a few weeks.

Thanks for the info Wiz. I looked through the spreadsheets, but a couple more questions:
- when does late registration end?
- do you think the 100K kickoff will end on Sunday or will the final table be on Monday?
- are you guys expecting long wait lists again, like the HPT scenario? meaning, if i show up at 11:30 AM on Saturday i'll be shut out and need to wait for a seat...

thanks!

Registration is through first break(2 hours) for normal structured events, 2nd break(4 hours) for deep stack events, all of day 1 for 100k and main event. The kickoff 100k will finish Sunday. The only event I anticipate there may be a wait is 100k kickoff on Saturday, but I don't think it will be too bad.

Does anyone know where to go to find a roommate for the WSOP? Going for the whole thing and looking to share a place with some good people. Thank you all for your time and have a great night.

Although if he's from CO and knows people from here with a new-ish account and 1 post count, his only chance is to find people he knows IRL who are going. People (with brains) aren't going to let total strangers in their house -- in a world with folks loading viruses/keyloggers on roommates, it is hard to let a total stranger have unfettered access to your stuff.

As a long time contributor who has met people in person, it is easier. Still, you should pay attention to the potential life-changing issues with someone able to mess with your stuff. It is like staking. Ideally, you're "investing" in someone you'd be about as happy to give the money. If they blow/lose the stake, you're in the same spot. Sure there's a next level where profit might live, but if you wonder about it, you're not there. If your roommate is someone you'd loan your phone or laptop for a couple days with no questions, you have no worries.

Sure, but the problem is that that kind of stuff isn't allowed in this forum. Or any forum outside the Marketplace (as a mod you should know this!). Actually for WSOP housing an exception was made to let that happen in LVL, but aside from specific exceptions allowed by Mat/Bobo, *anything* that leads to financial transactions isn't allowed outside the Marketplace, which includes room sharing.

Actually, I didn't know that "looking for roommates" was off limits and wouldn't have guessed that splitting a room = financial transaction by forum definitions. Learn something new every day. Thanks for the heads up. I have seen it tons in LVL and that would have lead me to believe that if it happened in a social forum it was OK everywhere.

Regarding the high hand battles going on up there. Being new to the market I don't understand the way players pick their room up there. I follow the tables on the bravo app and it seems rooms that offer more comp, rake back and other promos build up their table volume slower than rooms that offer less. Anyone know why? I saw yesterday that the gates lowered their bad beat qualifier and still had 2 less tables than the lodge in the morning/afternoon. Seems the evening is the only time the players use offers to shift their play as that is when I notice volume shifts

Traditionally, it was the room that had the biggest BBJP.

How much do hotel rooms cost particularly tuesday-thursday nights mid august. Are most places going to be $120 and up?

Nah depends where you stay but ranging 60-120. Even Ameristar is probably only 100..

Adding to Wiz's post... assuming you have any type of rated play history at any of the places (including Ameristar), you should be able to get a comp room fairly easy mid-week.

I think the gates offers some great tournaments but the place is a total dump.

The place stinks of propane and grease from the cafe. The food there is not really edible if your gonna grind there on a regualr basis, I would not touch the stuff. The casino has no hotel.

Lots of ameristar 2/5 and 30/60 regulars take advantage of the amenities such as free/discounted rooms, variety of grub, and a really nice poker room. 1/2 regulars are the only ones chasing promotions/BBJ

Really? That's interesting. Must be a lot different during the week. I've played about 40 hours a month at the Ameristar for the last 2 years now, and have never been offered more than a "reduced rate" which is still really high. Granted, this is on the weekends, but you would think maybe every 100 hours of play I could earn a free night? Maybe something other than $1/hr in food comps?

Should've been a little clearer... meant pit play (BJ,craps, etc), not poker. Comps based solely on poker play still a little tough to come by as far as I know.

The gates was offering $200 per week in rakeback ($5 per hour basically/tiered) and $2 comps and high hands and currently have a lowered prob bad beat. We play there and use our rakeback to cover our rooms down at the isle.

As Wizard said, you can definitely find cheaper. Most places offer poker rates if you play X hours in their room. IIRC the Isle/Lady Luck give out $39 rooms for 4 hours of play during the week which is probably the best you'll find.

Casinos benefit the least from poker players so it's not a shock they don't give out much to them. If you lose 1k in the pit, the casino made that 1k. If you lose 1k in the poker room, the casino only gets a small portion of it (the rake).

I've been saying this forever and people give me weird looks. That smell gives me headaches. One of the reasons I always have advil/tylenol with me. Also agree about their food. I'm not expecting super high quality stuff but I'm always tempted to walk to the A*/Isle deli places even when I'm playing at Gates.

Yeah I saw they were lowering the BBJ qualifier. Literally laughed when I saw the sign in the room. The days of the high hand bonuses aren't gonna last long and lowering the qualifier is only going to speed up the inevitable. All 3 casinos lose money from the "Promotional fund" they pay them from.

true.

i was hospitalized (food poisoning) from that grill back in early 2014. don't ever eat from that grill. if the health department were to ever inspect that place it would be shut down permanently. it's bad, real bad.

gates is a dump with the highest tourney rake in all of the USA.

avoid at all costs.

Don't be afraid to ask a floor for a free room every once in a while. Sometimes they say yes!
