As Wizard said, you can definitely find cheaper. Most places offer poker rates if you play X hours in their room. IIRC the Isle/Lady Luck give out $39 rooms for 4 hours of play during the week which is probably the best you'll find.

I've played about 40 hours a month at the Ameristar for the last 2 years now, and have never been offered more than a "reduced rate" which is still really high. Granted, this is on the weekends, but you would think maybe every 100 hours of play I could earn a free night? Maybe something other than $1/hr in food comps?

Casinos benefit the least from poker players so it's not a shock they don't give out much to them. If you lose 1k in the pit, the casino made that 1k. If you lose 1k in the poker room, the casino only gets a small portion of it (the rake).

Lots of ameristar 2/5 and 30/60 regulars take advantage of the amenities such as free/discounted rooms, variety of grub, and a really nice poker room. 1/2 regulars are the only ones chasing promotions/BBJ
I've been saying this forever and people give me weird looks. That smell gives me headaches. One of the reasons I always have advil/tylenol with me. Also agree about their food. I'm not expecting super high quality stuff but I'm always tempted to walk to the A*/Isle deli places even when I'm playing at Gates.
