Sorry to hear you two didn't have a good experience at Gates. We do the best we can with the capacity we have to host both tournament players and cash players, and sometimes that means a long wait. Similarly, we had 40+ on our cash waiting list, and we did our best to fill seats as they became available for both tournaments and cash. I hope you can understand the difficulty of our situation, but I understand if it makes you want to play elsewhere. GL at the tables gents!

RE: MSPT - For the $360 on Saturday, I registered about 45 minutes before the start, slip says entry #70. So there is space if you can get there a little early. With 14 tables (18 total less 4 to cash games) at $360 buy in it was pretty likely to have a big alternate list given the HPT situation.

Can't blame the Gates for running some cash games during a full tournament. I've wondered why they continue to be "the" place to play tournaments, but bust outs end up walking across the street to play cash (at least that's mostly my case). They need to run tourneys in an ballroom, which they don't have (though there appears to be a decent sized one at Ameristar).

Going off memory it is throughout May. The schedule has not yet been released, but once it is I will be happy to post a link here.

The Gates is just incompetence through and through. There was a ~70 player alternate list yesterday with 3-4 cash games running.

How they didn't learn anything after the collosal ****up that ws the HPT, I'll have no idea.
Not having enough dealers/floors/tables may show some incompetence but their staff are great. I play all over the US when I travel for work and am thankful for the professionalism of almost all of the Gates dealers.

There really needs to be a multiple-purpose room in BH that could be used for tournaments, shows, banquets. Have the cash games for those on the wait list. Check your coat, have a drink while you wait, some gnosh. Nah, that would be too classy for this nachos & PBR crowd.

I did have an idea for a green chip strip club at the old Silver Hawk site on the other end of town. Maybe turning it into Tournament Central would draw a good crowd too. Plenty of parking.

Don't places pay taxes based on the number of tables? Thus, additional tourney tables would be a huge expense year round. Maybe this was just someone talking at the table, and thus as reliable as their football picks. Does anyone who understands BH table game rules know? Tournament room sounds fun, if possible.

Hey guys, I'm heading to Denver for a few days and will check out Ameristar cash games my Friday night. From airport area I see it's about 60 min drive. I'll have a rental car. Google maps puts two different ways almost same time to get there.

For the regs would you recommend I70 to exit 244 to rt 6 then 119.
Or I70 to exit 265, rt 58, rt 6, rt 119?

Or does it not make a difference? Thanks for the help!

None of those.

I70 to exit 243 (central city parkway), this takes you right to Blackhawk on a 4 lane highway so you don't get stuck behind morons going 25.

Most of the dealers at the Gates are great, but you can definitely see why Tony left. The writing is on the wall.

I believe it is actually bracketed based on number of slot machines. Or maybe it's a combination of tables/slots but obv slots outnumber pit/poker by a lot.

Much appreciated! Google didn't even show that way.

I assume they have 1 hour call ahead seating based on this forum??

Ameristar does, yes. Don't call unless you'll be there in less than an hour, they will pull your name off the list so fast and tell you to pound sand.

I call right when I get to the base of the hills. By the time you drive, park, and get to the room it's about 40 minutes without traffic.

Great, thank you all for the advice. We'll see what $100 max bet plays like, should be interesting!

It comes down to edge vs juice. If your ROI isn't >20% then it's not a profitable tournament to play.

FWIW I would have fired as many bullets as it took given the opportunity. Just like the WSOPc 365s, soft fields. Id estimate the best players have >100% ROI.

Just confirmed my suspicion that Ameristar conference/ballrooms aren't zoned for gaming. They'd have to pull slots or shut down cash games so that's a non starter for large field MTTs. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I think the Central City Parkway is a terrible route. It is a 4 lane hwy, but it ends at CC, then you have to work your way through town to get to the Ameristar. And for an out of towner, it can get a little confusing navigating the side streets.

I-70 to 6 to 119 has become my go to route. It's actually faster than the CC parkway and it ends basically right at the A*, just go through a couple of lights and take a right into valet parking

And it doesn't matter if people are going slow. I wouldn't recommend more than 5 over the limit cause there are police all over...

Good luck!

Is the Lodge Casino a terrible place to stay? Any suggestions on a better place, close to Ameristar? I'm coming through there Tuesday and Ameristar if full (FU St Paddy!). The Lodge has a room available for $109. Seem reasonable?

Book it IMO. Cheaper options may be Isle and Lady Luck, but they are not centrally located like Lodge is.

Lodge is right across the street (actually highway 119) from A*. Lady Luck and Isle are a little farther, but still an easy walk.

I wouldn't call it a terrible route, but would agree that I-70 to 6 Eastbound to 119 is as good a route if not better to get to Blackhawk. Going back to Denver, the Parkway is maybe a bit better, as it saves you the two or three miles of frontage road before you can get onto I-70 (though you do still have to drive to and through Central City).
