Yes, it essentially isn't that important how much you buy in for because unless you get someone crazy 5 bet, 6 betting, etc. you without the nuts, the pots can't get that big. However, with that being said, I usually bring $1500 to the 2/5 game, because I have actually been in the situation several times with recreational players that get in $100 raising wars with me on the turn without the nuts. Most people buy in for the standard 100BB. I only go on weekends, but find the 2/5 game at the Ameristar very profitable considering the rules (~$64hr over a small sample of 80 hours) rungoot probably, but many bad plays

Yea while I call them regulars, most weren't the best players. I watched someone that I actually recognized from when I used to frequent the room years ago frequently call off large portions of their stack chasing draws. Everyone at the table knew this and made him pay time after time.

Are there any NLHE cash games in colorado?

Ameristar says it runs NL cash games... is there still a $100 cap?

NO casino in Colorado has no-limit. $100 is the max bet. You can only play NLHE if it is a tournament or a private cash game

People were talking above, with the uncapped buyins the games can get deep. You can see $500+ effective stacks. The games are 1/2/100 and 2/5/100 spread limit. No buy-in limits, so if you want to get really deep it is possible.

I know that it is cool to be super-committed to the NL ethic, and look down on anything but shoving the entire amount at once. However against stack depths of $200-$400, how often are you going to have single bets over $100 in a "real NL" game? Let's say it gets even $700 deep, you're looking at one or two extra raises to get it all in there. Admittedly, the SL is a little different. It is still close to NL. At the 1/2 level, I can't imagine there is much actual difference.

At the 1/2 level, you are correct. At 2/5, the pots frequently get big enough that a $100 bet is a fraction of the pot. This makes calling down with good draws much more profitable than in a no limit game. Sure, two big made hands are likely to get it all in anyway, but with something like a two pair or overpair vs. a flush draw, the made hand can't bet enough to make calling unprofitable.

So what you're really saying is, "just sit the 30/60 kill game, because that's way more fun"? If so, agree.

Looks like I may get up to the Rose this Saturday. I'll be the red bearded guy donking off multiple stacks.

Please do a Rose TR. It has been years since I've played up there, and it would be great to hear what the room is like these days.

Well, the Rose wasn't too bad. They only had one table of 1/2-100 running but, it was full the entire night and is where I sat the whole time. Most of the players were reg-fish who' s actions were pretty easy to interpret. However, I allowed myself to go on tilt after losing a couple of big stacks with AK vs J7 then AK vs J8 and donked off the remainder of my stack with 56s vs JT on a 987 flop. Average stack size was 400-500.

Oh well, next time.

The tournaments they ran seemed pretty popular and were constantly going with 3-4 tables while I was there. I think it was a bit of a low night because of the weather that day as well so I assume that they normally have 2 tables of the 1/2-100.

How are the weekend 1/2 and 2/5 games from 12am to 5am? I've only really played from about 5pm to 11pm on the weekends.

In my experience these games tend to start breaking in the 2-3am range. That said, there are always a handful of 1/2 and at least one or two 2/5 games games running throughout the night.

Played Saturday night at Ameristar. Way too much tapping of the tank. The tank tappers seemed to be regs. Also a ton of strategy talk at my table, which I loved; definitely helped me make some correct decisions!

I played at the Ameristar on Saturday and the new room is amazing! Although the staff had theirs heads up their asses, it was still an awesome upgrade to see.

The best place to ask for staking/sell shares is in the marketplace. There are mechanisms there for seller feedback and trying to prevent scamming -- not perfect, but it helps. Given 12 posts, I'm guessing you won't be able to get approved for posting or offering a package there. Some forums are forceful in not allowing staking sales to happen outside the marketplace.

Really the best people to talk to are friends. It avoids trust issues. They know how well you play (if you're ++EV) or are willing to help out for a sweat (the, I'll give up $12 in EV to help out a buddy). A local person can also hand you cash, while getting money from someone you don't know has pitfalls if you're not experienced in modern money shippage. Many mechanisms you think are safe actually offer the sender opportunities to cancel their payment and freeroll you.

Thinking about making a couple of trips up per month to play some cards at Blackhawk. I am lucky enough that my wife works over nights 2 weekends a month and I have the free time to make the trip.

Before going to law school I played quite a bit of live poker and used to both supplement my income and at times as my sole income. Since law school I have played very little. I played a bit up at Blackhawk during my bachelor party where the old habits and methods came back pretty quick. I can't remember the name of the Casino but it was the first one as you come into town. Bit of an odd room. I wanted to buy in a full 100BB deep and the cashier (and other players) looked at me strangely. They told me everyone just buys in for a $100 in the 1/2 game. Regardless the game was pretty soft.

Looking at this thread it appears that Ameristar has the best room and good games to go along with it. I would love to meet up with some 2+2 regs (but not sit with you) when I make the trip up.

What does everyone think on transportation? I live in the North Burbs of Denver and it is pretty much a straight shot down Wadsworth to get on the Interstate up to Blackhawk. Bus trips worth it?

All forums are supposed to be forceful about this as it comes from the admins, but some mods look the other way and that's why you sometimes see it elsewhere.
