Did 20/40 o8 run in addition or replace of the 2/5/100 o8?

On Friday, it replaced 2-5/100. As of 3 PM Saturday, the 2-5 is running, 7 on the list for 20/40. Someone who was actually here on Friday said they started it 7 handed, very unusual for Astar

As with all things in poker - it depends. The 30/60 is filled with regs during the week, and then the recreational players & new faces play on the weekend (i.e. me). Probably no different than every other poker room around the country...

But since I'm also only an occasional player, take my post with a grain of salt. If you want to get a good feel for the game through anecdotes and hand histories, I highly suggest reading quantph's blog, Another middle-aged white guy Another dream, in the House of Blogs forum:

Assuming they're still using the same old Ebola-laden chips?
Ebola confirmed. There are actually some new reds and whites in circulation but it's not like they replaced the old chips (or cleaned them). Somehow they managed to run out of greens in the poker room last night!

So the 20-40 game never got started on Saturday, they killed the list since there was no table for it. I saw a list on Bravo today as well. Seems like it wouldn't take much for this to become a regular game, I know 3-5 people who would play this somewhat regularly if it was available (some of them instead of 30-60 LHE)

There's beer and food pron too Thanks for the props Doc!

Limehouse: what DSW is said generally true, weekends mean more players and thus more recreational players (as opposed to pros, who play for a living). I never play during the week but Bravo usually shows 2 tables on most weekday evenings, whereas it's 3-5 on weekends. More tables are going to be your best indicator of when the games are good. After that, tired and drunk players are best, so 2 tables at last call on Friday/Saturday are going to be more profitable than 2 tables on Tuesday at 6 PM.

will be in CO early next year and thinking about making a trip out to play some poker... scanning last few pages of thread and it looks like A* is the main option? i would be coming from downtown denver after daytime work activities... is there a bus option or should i just spring for a rental car while i'm in town? what kind of wait could i expect for that o8 game on a weeknight vs a friday? can i call ahead?

any tips appreciated.

Ameristar would be your best bet for # of games and is the only room that regularly spreads O8. Unsure how the wait times are on the weekends now with the new room, but you can call ahead and put your name on the list up to an hour out.

Transportation-wise, I'd go with the rental car option (although there are some passionate pro-bus/shuttle folks on this forum, too). Depending on traffic/location, it's about a ~45 min drive from downtown Denver.

The Golden Gates sometimes has an O8 game and it's a short walk from A*.

There's lots to do in Denver, so having a car is handy, but renting a car just to drive up the hill is an expensive waste imo. You'll spend more money just in gas than it costs to ride the shuttle.

The bus runs hourly, picks up downtown, goes to the Stapleton Walmart, then up the hill. It take 1.5hrs to get from downtown to BH, or an hour from Stapleton. Coming back, it takes an hour to get from BH to downtown, 1.5hrs to Stapleton. There are other routes serving other pickup/dropoff points, but you specified downtown. It costs $23 round-trip. If you play a few hours at Isle or Lodge, they'll re-imburse you $20 on the bus ticket. A* does not re-imburse, and I've no idea about Golden Gates.

If you get the Bravo ap, it'll tell you what's going on up there as far as games/interest lists.

Shouldn't be an issue. Most places have multi-level parking garages.

I never show up at like 6PM on a Friday, but my experience with BH casinos over the years is that parking is a big plus.

Any cripple creek players? I'm thinking of heading over there either this weekend (I'm in CO Springs) or the following to check out the tables. Is the Rose still the best room there?

The Rose is about the only option. Games have been good since the new year, especially the Omaha.

Getting real tired of Ameristar's incompetence or unwillingess to seat people at poker tables. Long list of 10-20 people waiting for games all day yesterday (excluding call ins, probably another 10 of those) and we still sit at tables with empty seats for 45+ minutes. I'm not sure if the floor is just incompetent/lazy and screwing this up or this is just not important to them for whatever reason but it's getting really aggravating in the new nine handed tables. Also had a period of about 30 minutes with two empty seats, same huge waiting list as always.

Bravo showing 50/100 running at Ameristar right now. Definitely didn't expect to see that going @ 8am on a Thursday.

Last Friday I called in as I live in Winter Park. I got to the podium and had to wait behind 2-3 people, as I was waiting the floor pulled my name from the list. (It had been 61 min since I called on the dot, but was still 10-15 spots deep). When i got up to the podium "phillip" (i think) acted completely clueless and put me on the bottom of the 51 person list.

So I just went to the Lodge.

Noob fish here, heading up for a weekend of tournaments and cash games in Blackhawk. I plan to make a stop at Ameristars new room but hoping I don't run into issues after reading the last few comments.

If you want to play tournaments, you need to go to Golden Gates which is across the street from Ameristar.

Yup, fully aware of that thanks to the Bravo app but thanks for the tip.

Had a few questions after a short 1/2 session last night at Ameristar.

What is the max buy in for 1/2 at Ameristar? The gentleman to my left had a stack around 1,200 and had made a comment that he had bought them with the intention of playing 2/5.

Secondly, is 1/2 on Friday nights usually reg infested? I felt like 7 of the 9 players at the table were long time regulars.

Overall had a decent night while playing my D game at best. Was awesome to finally get out and play again after four years.

There's no max buyin in any game due to CO only having spread limit and fixed limit games. If you want to buyin for 3k at 1/2 (I've seen it), you can.

Weekends are usually not the nights where all tables are reg-infested. That's more likely of weeknights. However, just because a player is a reg doesn't make them good. I've played with tons of people I would classify as a reg that still dump money there all the time.
