Very curious who told you that. Don’t see why gaming would randomly remove it from their list of approved games.

I asked the (undisclosed) Poker room to start an 8-16 Horse interest list last night and i was informed by one of the floor supervisors that stud is not allowed in Colorado. I told him yes it is as I used to play stud back at the Gilpin in 2006 - 2008. I asked another manager and he also said stud is not a 'sanctioned' game currently. Then a VERY REGULAR player chimed in and also said he used to play a mixed game and now they can no longer play stud. I looked up the Colorado gaming statutes (all 160 pages of it) and stud/stud 8 are listed as games in the statutes along with the rules of play. If these games were not sanctioned under CO gaming law, they would not be described in the document.

This leads me to one of only 2 conclusions:

1. management is not informed of all current laws related to Colorado gaming because they almost never run into some of these specific instances. Stud is extremely rare since 2005 and many who have worked in Blackhawk probably never dealt with starting a game of stud or even an interest list.

2. management does not want to run a game and has no interest in doing so, and thus, will try to brush it off with bad information.

Colorado is a really odd poker market when it comes to choice, variety, and accommodating player requests. I can't tell you how many times I've been outright denied in starting an interest list (JUST AN INTEREST LIST!!) for a game.

By the way, that regular player said stud hands take too long so that's why casinos don't want to spread due to lower rake. I know that, but Omaha hi/lo isn't exactly quick either.

I just checked online for the gambling laws and didn't see anything excluding stud games.

Let's just calk down until we verify this for real.

You think we'd get enough interest in a 8/16 game? It baffles me that the small/mid limit games never got traction in BH. I grew up playing limit so I love it, but to basically have 1-2 100, 2-5 100 and 30/60 HE with no other limit games is crazy to me.
Any update on this, DuMaa?

We're wrapping up the MSPT this weekend and will have about 2 weeks before WPTDS, so let's try to get some choice game going next Sunday (4/21). How about 11AM? That sound good to you guys? I'll start telling those I know who aren't on here. Let's give it a try.

And it's hogwash that 7 stud is not allowed in CO. LMAO. If one of my floor supervisors told you that, please PM me and let me know.

I will be there. Also, I re-asked people at Ameristar and they said the Stud ban was BS. It's on!

I checked the Board at the Golden Gates and I did not see the Sign up list for Mixed game on 4/21?
What games and stakes, haw many players at the table( min/max buy in)? Should we sign up somewhere ( email or text message sign up would work best)
or is it first come first served? Can we start at 10AM?
I imagine that this game will attract mostly early raisers...

We could do one of these line ups? it would be nice to know in advance?

Eight Game Mix – Fixed limit 2-7 triple draw, fixed limit Texas holdem, fixed limit omaha hi/lo, razz, fixed limit seven-card stud, fixed limit seven-card stud hi/lo, no limit Texas holdem and pot limit omaha.

Ten Game Mix (introduced at the 2011 World Series of Poker) – No limit holdem, fixed limit razz, fixed limit holdem, fixed limit badugi, fixed limit seven-card stud, no limit 2-7 single draw, fixed limit omaha hi/lo, pot limit omaha, fixed limit 2-7 triple draw and fixed limit seven-card stud hi/lo (played with 6 players on a table).

Can't do pot limit or no limit in Colorado so we can throw those games out, but everything else looks fun. I haven't played 2-7 but am eager to learn something new.

I envision a choice game with all the games you listed, but instead of choosing a new game every single hand, I find it's better to do one game per orbit so you can actually get into a flow for a particular game. It's really hard to play any game well when you change games constantly. I also suspect that omaha hi or omaha hi/lo are going to get chosen most of the time (my least favorite game behind hold'em).

Anyways, if the limit will be 8-16, here are the typical antes and forced bets for the stud games

$1 ante
$3 bring in (forced bet)
$8 completion
$8 limit on 3rd and 4th streets
$16 limit on 5th - 7th streets
1 bet and 3 raises (4 bet max)

Pretty sure the only draw game allowed in CO is five card draw.

Do we have that Mix game going tomorrow at Golden Gates? Do we have at list 8 players on the list.
I don't want to drive for 2 hours on Sunday with no game going.

Good thing I didn't drive 2 hours roundtrip to play the game that never happened. Pheew, avoided one there. There were never more than 5 on the list.
Instead i got to do my 5 hours of sales KPI reports..

Next stop, cash games galore at WSOP.

I didn't show up because no one said the game was going. I was across the street. Let's find a way to communicate better.

Agreed here. Maybe you guys can PM me with a phone # or email so I can blast out texts/emails? Or you could call the podium the day before and get on the list. Or both.

The first go at this was a bust, but it was Easter Sunday and the day after MSPT ended. Players were burnt out. We had an Omaha game spout up randomly last night (Monday) though. It's hard to predict.

I apologize for not responding to more questions sooner. I'm supposed to get an email every time there's a reply to this thread, but I haven't been getting them. I was for a while. Have to check my settings again I guess.

4 hrs of play gets you the poker rate (120 weekdays, 180 weekends I think)

In my experience, they will comp weekdays with substantial play, hard to get weekends thru poker as they have very limited amounts of weekend rooms to give out.

I am guessing that this entire initiative is over because no one could be bothered to post to this forum or set up a facebook group or create an email list? If that is the problem, then I will do it, but it seems like the responsibility of the poker room manager. Let me know and I will do it.

I was at the Golden Gates this Sunday and asked to start an interest list for $10/20 HORSE. Floor was very accommodating, but ultimately couldn't figure out how to enter a new game. I assume into Bravo.

Anyway I'd be interested in trying to start a mix game.

Anyone know what in the world happened at Ameristar? I took about a 4mo hiatus from Blackhawk and when I just went back it seems the place is more of a jail than a casino now and there are signs about no weapons posted EVERYWHERE with 10x the security guards I’ve ever seen, and they’re bad!

Afaik there was no specific incident, have heard there is new mgmt. They seem to be cutting costs in customer service (like one cashier in poker room on a Saturday night) but increasing security.

No thanks. We aren't down with your attitude or personality so we'd be better off avoiding your presence. Ciao

Meh. I'm betting that anonymously puffing his chest out at month-old 2+2 posts is the most activity you're going to get out of this guy on any subject that doesn't involve anime.

I'm simply just stating what everyone else is/was thinking. The manager is done with this initiative anyways, so moving on..
