Relatively new to Colorado. I hear people complain all winter about how terrible Hwy 70 is during ski season. Is Hwy 6 up the canyon just as bad? What is the best way to get to the casinos during ski season coming from Boulder?

Took my first trip to Colorado late last week. Didn't get a chance to go to any casinos but I'm a fan of the area. Spent most of the time in Brighton and Arvada but took a day trip up to Boulder and drove up Flagstaff Rd for a few stops.

70 is only REALLY bad on weekend mornings going west and afternoons going east. At all times of year from Boulder I take 6 or 128 anyways depending on which part of town I'm coming from.

From Boulder I would take CO93 to US6 & CO119. I don't see any reason to take I70 in any season.

I70 will be backed up every weekend from 6-10am going west, starting just before the exit to US 6. You can get off one exit before and avoid some of it. I don't find that much of a problem for poker, unless you're playing day 2 of a tournament with an 11am start. II70 will be jammed up going east from 4-6pm, but that's usually before Idaho Springs so it's not much of an issue time and location wise for poker.

From Boulder you'd take 93 to Golden. It will back up too, just outside Golden, on weekdays. Then you decide between US6 and I70. Like has been said, usually easier to take 6 going up, but check the traffic situation before you head up (I don't get a signal after the first tunnel). Sometimes there's an accident and the road can get closed as it was the other week.

I usually take 70 going down because there's not much traffic after 11pm and I'd rather go a few extra miles at highway speed than follow the line cars down 6

Tip - If you call an put yourself on the list when you get to Golden, you'll usually be at the top by the time you get to the room

Excellent. Thanks. Sounds like a good strategy.

For anyone that may be interested, Ameristar will be holding both a 4-8 LHE full kill game and 10-20 LHE on September 13th (Thursday). They are starting what they call the 'game of the week'.

the 4-8 game starts at noon and signups will begin at 10am the day of

$7 rake when pot reaches $60 makes these games seem pretty pointless unless you really like paying rake

I will agree with you on the 4-8 game; that is too small to beat the rake. As for the 10-20 full kill game, I don't see a problem here. It also plays bigger than a 1-2 to $100 spread so it's an improvement over the usual Blackhawk games.

Either way, it's a welcomed change from the status quo for those who want an alternative game to play.

...and it looks from Bravo that either game didn't actually get going. 8:20pm and still only six people on the list.

I don't see a 'game of the week' on Bravo. Are they going to try to get something interesting running tonight?

Probably not, no market for alternative games here. Colorado is mostly novice older people playing on meager social security checks and tiny pensions from blue collar jobs. People are scared to death to try something outside their comfort zone.

Some friends were trying to convince me to go to Vegas and I realized the only thing I miss about Vegas is the good food.

Is there anything anyone can recommend to me for food in BlackHawk?

A buffet? Kickass Breakfast? Great Steaks? Anything?

Golden Gates Poker Room lost some of their senior managers this past week. I think it's safe to say we will miss them dearly. Capable, knowledgeable, hard-working. Shame corporate decided to clean house.

In other news, I have heard some poker room are holding 'win the button' tournaments. Stones Gambling Hall is one example. This sounds like a fun format! I'd love to see Gates try this out and see what kind of interest it gets. Of course, Colorado gaming would have to approve.

Finally, what is everyone's thoughts about an ante-only cash game? Simple game play: everyone antes a $1 before cards are dealt. Button moves clockwise as usual. No blinds. Player directly left of the button acts first both before the flop and all subsequent betting rounds. This should pick up game aggression and create bigger average pots. Helps solve nitty players sitting and waiting for big hands.

if theres no blinds and someone got up for a while to eat smoke or use the restroom, what do they owe when they return? what if they were only getting up when they were in a bad position? i think this is why its unworkable in real life.

Treat it like a tournament? You get anted while you're gone from the table except you get one 45 minute meal break ticket that you must surrender when you use it. Any other time away you get anted.

I guess you could incorporate blinds to prevent missing hands to wait for better position as well. Would be a juicy game with 13 going in pot before cards dealt

Really sad, I heard about this last week. They're losing a great poker manager.

As far as an ante-only cash game, I hate the idea. I'd rather have a 1/2 1 ante game. That way, there is no issue with people walking, since it only matters if you miss a blind. You don't pay an ante unless you have a hand, which is how it works in cash I believe.

I'm good with this idea; blinds are necessary
