There is no need for any of these at the poker table.

While we're on the topic of inconsistent rules and (non-)enforcement thereof, if they're going to ban phones at the table, I wish they would just disallow any electronics altogether ("they" being any card room, not just A*). It's pretty ridiculous that you can't be on the phone, yet there are all kinds of people with an earbud (sometimes even with the inline phone mic) in their ears, connected to the phone. Presumably, there are at least two reasons you can't be on the phone, 1) eliminate at least that distraction and keep the game moving, and 2) combat collusion/cheating through use of the phone. Earbuds in a phone short circuits both.

Sweet anough to get me interested. It seems to me that by now GG could guarantee ME $100k first place prize. Could be another sweet promo

I like your thinking! Hard to convince the big wigs to take 100k in liability though! It'll be right around there anyway.

Technically the rule is English only "while in the hand". I've had a couple of dealers speak up on that one. But sadly, it's sort of like "I'm warning you .. further infractions will result in additional warnings".

Same as anywhere else. I'm surprise the rule is even posted in the LA rooms.

Just to verify, so this time in the CPC, getting a top 3 spot in the points race doesn't automatically earn you $5k, $3k, and $2k, it just earns you a spot in the TOC if you get in the top 20 points count?

Yes Top 20 in Points gets you in TOC and top 10 there all get paid from the 20k prize pool. 11k wsop package for 1st....

Any cash game promotions running right now that are better than $150 for 30 hours at GG?

Isle is correct. First time players get $10/hr cash up to $50 on their first visit. You need to sign up for a players card (obv).

Has anyone else noticed the casinos are really hurting right now (poker rooms)? Well, maybe not the ameristar but all the others. They're seemingly empty compared to months past.

The isle has gone down to 1 to 4 games
The lodge has gone down to 1 to 3 games
The gates is down to 1 to 3 games
The lady luck ... well i don't know
The ameristar ... well this place is immune to downturns

I'm afraid the player pool is starting to dry up either because of the arrival of nice weather, players are broke because so many are terrible, or the bad beats are lower than usual.

It's scary to think a large # of players ONLY play for bad beats. That is not poker and speaks volumes that you can't win in poker unless you hit bad beats.

To the 50+ crowd, how can you play 30+ years and still not be a winning player, and only play for bad beats?

I'm sure this is redundant so I apologize, but I scanned about 10 pages and didn't see anything.

I'm staying in Downtown Denver May 1-5 and was planning on hitting the Wed. night and Sat afternoon tourneys in Black Hawk. Two questions:

1) What's the best way to get there from Denver

2) If I take a taxi, what should I expect the fare to be each way?

Thanks,

I don't think it's that bad. Maybe because you play at the Lodge, and they're hurting. Ameristar is starting to lose their bad beat action slowly, but they have such a following it'll take a while for them to lose a lot. Gates has been getting 2-4 games weekdays, 6-8 on weekends. Isle still gets their 1-1 action. I don't think the games are leaving, just moving. Some bad beat chasers are filtering into Gates for the 300k bad beat for instance.

There are only 2 realistic ways to get to Blackhawk/Central City.
1) Drive a car
2) Take a tour bus

If you drive, I personally like the canyon route (Hwy 119 from Golden). It seems a bit slower but usually doesn't make that much difference, especially into lower Blackhawk which is where most of the good poker is. The difference is the grade (incline). It's much more flat so saves a lot on gas as opposed to the other way (I-70).

Though they are not my thing, the tour busses are very popular. I am pretty sure you will have no problem finding one leaving from anyplace in Denver.

I suppose taxi is a theoretical 3rd option, but ... see next answer.

A lot. I expect around $100 each way with a small tip. For the cost of a round trip you could easily rent a car for your whole stay.

+1.

Take a bus or rent and drive. DO not waste your money on a taxi and feed those trolls.

You forgot to consider the high rake that leaves most of the 1-1 and 1-2 regulars at being a losing player, break even player or a small few being slight winners. A lot of the players you see playing at peak hours don't know or don't care about the high rake because they don't play enough. Eventually all the 1-2 players will go broke if they play enough unless they hit a bad beat or move up to one of the two other games in town.

+1 Also HPT and WSOP-C took a big chunk out of players money. HPT's winner was an amature ->226k, WSOP-C ME winner was an out of state pro ->138k. Count all the rake and 364k out of local poker economy is a big hit.
Still hope for decent turnout for CPC at Gates.

It has seemed to slow down especially this week.

The isle has gone down to 1 to 4 games
The lodge has gone down to 1 to 3 games

Ameristar is immune to downturns? Not true. They've been below average all week just like everywhere else. Of course, a slow night to them would be a busy night to other rooms, but they have slowed down lately as well.

I'm afraid the player pool is starting to dry up either because of the arrival of nice weather, players are broke because so many are terrible, or the bad beats are lower than usual.

Summer/nice weather usually puts a dent in business. Plus after HPT/CPC a lot of player took a big hit and a lot of money left the town.

It's scary to think a large # of players ONLY play for bad beats. That is not poker and speaks volumes that you can't win in poker unless you hit bad beats.

Scary? It's ****ing awesome.

To the 50+ crowd, how can you play 30+ years and still not be a winning player, and only play for bad beats?

Do you think they actually think like that? Hell, do you think they actually care? Or notice? They don't care. It's the same reason people can play BJ or slots for 30+ years. They are degenerates.

Hopefully more folks move here from Texifornia and bring new money. We really need it.

I sometimes feel bad for the older, retired gentlemen playing EVERYDAY and often losing. I know they're using their retirement savings and miniscule SS checks to keep up their habit. It's kind of sad. Usually you can differentiate those that are playing money they can't afford to lose by the way they react to losing and how they treat other players. It's a dead giveaway. It's not just a heightened competitive spirit.

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback. I couldn't work my schedule to be flexible with getting to Black Hawk and I didn't have a car. I'll plan better next time.

Went to the Isle for the $50 promotion Sunday. Game started around noon and I was the youngest person at the table by a good 90 years. Structure was small with the 1/1 blinds. One guy bought in for $20 and lost with AA to go down to $2. He sat on the $2 for 30 minutes, hovering between $2-5, then kept getting up and sitting down for 1 hand at a time. This went on for 2-3 hours. No one in the game knew what they were doing, but only one guy I would consider bad. Later in the afternoon, more people started coming around. Overall, the game is definitely not worth it with the $7 rake, but I was pleased to get the promotion and would play again if I was always being paid $10/hr. Everyone kept talking about the BBJ. I wish they would just take it away so there could be a crop of regulars to fill seats.

Pretty sure I would have made sure I "accidentally" spilled a really full, really dark beer on him. I mean like down the back, round the front .. no WAY is this guy not leaving the table.
