Anyone want to try to start a 8/16 or 10/20 limit game at Isle during the CO WPT?

There's a new poker room manager at Ameristar. He's an MOD who transferred to the poker room with no poker experience, or at least that's the the word around town. It'll be interesting to see if he changes anything for better or worse.

How was the turn out for the noon wpt satellite at the isle on Sunday? I didn't have chance to make it up but would like to try it out this Sunday.

Word is that only one WPT satellite has actually run. They had 9 players last night at 6:30, but couldn't get the tenth required to go forward with the event.

Can anyone tell where where the 4/8 limit games are in black hawk? I like playing with 2-100 games at the golden gates but I'm getting kinda bored of it.

I hope the wpt satellites pick up, I saw on thepokerfloorman website that there are supposed to be some cheap mtts at noon on saturdays. And not sure about 4-8 limit, maybe up the street at central city?

They're all at Ameristar, a table or two start up daily ~1:00pm and 3 or 4 run during Friday / Saturday

MOD?

Manager On Duty?

BTW, hearing about people with no poker experience whatsoever getting control of a poker room makes me shake my head. Not that it doesn't happen in many other professions, though.

If the new manager is heavy into marketing, per se, it can work. But an office manager-type, not so much.

Yes, Manager On Duty = MOD

Ameristar is a "promote from within" company which I admire for the most part. But when you have the nut room in town it may be better to hire the "most qualified" candidate instead of the "next in the political line" candidate.

Not really all that shocking, but yesterday morning, saw a couple of guys who knew the floor get their names put to the top of the waitlist. When I asked how to become one of the cool kids, the gist of what the floor told me was that they somehow had their names removed and he thought that he should put them back where they belong, ie on the top of the list.

Mind you I'd been there waiting for 40mins already and never saw those names on there during that time until they showed up on top.

Standard I guess, but was a bummer to see.

So haven't been up to Black Hawk in about a year or so. Would normally play at the Lodge when that room was the busiest. Normally play the $1-2-100 HE game. But I hear that the Ameristar is crushing it these days, and that's where all the action is. Can anyone give me an idea of where the best cash games are right now? Planning on going up Sat night, and hopefully play against some drunk degens...Also which room has the biggest bad beat jackpot right now? Thanks guys!

What drunk degens?
Better be ready to bluff all the rocks(40+ year guys sipping on water).

I've experienced first-hand how promoting someone from within with no clue about poker (nor much else it ended up being) can ruin a room, thus my skepticism.

Again, just circumstances of what they know and what type of room it is.

So, I had a nice chat with Jeff, who is a floor at the Midnight Rose in Cripple Creek (and, for the record, one of the ones I called "a real pro," not an "oxygen waster" in my last post on this topic, if you're reading Jeff ) while I was waiting for a seat last night. From context I expect he is also the asst mgr. He mentioned to me that he'd read my post in the old Colorado Poker thread in which I had been less than complimentary about changes when the new manager came in.

It's good to see that they are paying attention to this forum, even though Cripple Creek doesn't get much love ITT. Since I had been critical then, it seems only fair to update post discussion.

As far as the "4 hours for food comps" issue, it turns out that this was a bit of miscommunication. The idea was that players should be playing 4 hour (ish) sessions if they were being comped food, not that they should have already clocked 4 hours before they were allowed to order. This was in response to "players" who came in on their lunch breaks, sat on limit tables and gave no action, but just sat long enough to eat. Fair enough.

So at first the concept was misunderstood, but now that it's been clarified, regs can get food early in the session because the staff knows they'll be there a while, and others are told that they should be there a while after eating. Much better, imo.

As far as the tournaments, the vig did go up, but I was incorrect about the structures. They actually went with bigger starting stacks and longer (lol) levels. I'm still not playing any tournament with 20 minute levels, even if it's not as bad as 15, but it's not worse.

I am not a fan of the $2 bad beat drop, but the huge BBJs do definitely bring in the gamboolers, so I guess I shouldn't complain. I do wish the Eagle were not so dead, but the Rose is a reliable place to find a good game.

The Lodge and it not even close. We have a $309,000 Bad Beat Jackpot right now. This includes a $100,000 Room Share.

Good luck!

actually, you were right. lots of rocks, and a lot of short stacks. was difficult getting any good action or large pots. also the Lodge was pretty slow - pretty surprising based on what is was like about a year ago. played short handed for a long time, like 5-6 people. left about midnight when the table broke. went over to the Ameristar and there was still a few names on the list. much better action, LOTS of drunk degens and easy marks. played until about 4am and there were still plenty of $1-2-100 games going. looks like the Ameristar is the spot these days...

going up again next weekend for the HPT Main!

.

You have any idea how brutal the drive to Blackhawk is from C-Springs? I can be at CC in an houror, depending on traffic, Blackhawk in 2.5ish. Given gas, boredom and opportunity cost, I'm only going to Blackhawk if I'm there for a whjole weekend and have a comped room.

Obv, going to CC from the Denver area would be silly, but for the Springs or Peublo it's that or underground games.

The Lodge had six 1-2 100 games running at midnight on Saturday night. Maybe your game broke around midnight, but there were 5 others running. We had a game run overnight Saturday into Sunday.
