I live in the burbs, and things like this may happen but you wont see a group of 30 waiting to order food, just watching, without calling cops. That and the parking situation...
Only in Chicago do you see crap like this. Maxwell street actually has some great food!

It was at Majestic.

Ameristar's short lived poker room is now either more baccarat tables or video poker. Can't remember which they ended up going with think it was baccarat.

Im curious about peoples views on gvc's promotions. They are taking a 1 dollar promo drop for the bbj and 500 dollar per day high hand. The high hand promo is $500 until 6pm to supposedly increase the daytime player #'s. I only play at night, and dont like paying for a promo that gets hit every single day and I cant be part of. I had some people telling me that somehow the increase in daytime players is benefitting me because they then put money towards the bbj??? Ive never hit a bbj and cant plan on it so that is stupid.
Is taking promo money from one shift that they cant win a proper way to run promos?

Yes, not only permissible/proper, but smart business. No need to run promos when the room is busier anyway (at night); much better to run them when the room isn't as busy in hopes of attracting players.

Promo funds are pretty much at the discretion of the room. The funds are kept track of 'separately' from other room funds and should the room ever close be 'returned' to the players in some fashion.

The high hand type promos do (potentially) take away from BBJ (primary and secondary pot) totals but the room could choose to eliminate the BBJ and only offer freeroll tournaments twice a month as well using those funds as the 'guarantee' prize pool.

These funds ... although technically 'belonging' to the players ... are distributed at the sole discretion of the room management in an effort to promote the room. Although many poker players may mix up the words 'promote' and 'reward' when considering their own interests in this cash!!

If you want to feel good about this subject just ask any golf/bowling league member about how their league funds are spread out on the whims of 4 ppl across the masses. GL

Hey, I'm traveling to Chicago this weekend and planned on hitting up some casinos. I checked out PokerAtlas and saw some charity rooms that nove around locations. Are these games even worth it or should I be traveling to the bigger rooms? Cheers

I just noticed this-

New Rockford Hold’em will be introduced at the August 26 FREE ROLL They will alternate one blind level of standard Hold’em and one blind level of Rockford Hold’em. In Rockford Hold’em the players are all dealt three hole cards to start, followed by a round of betting, the dealer will then burn and turn up two (2) cards in the flop, another round of betting takes place and the dealer will then burn and put out the turn card on the board, followed by another round of betting. The dealer will then burn and put out the final River card followed by the final round of betting. Players can use any and all of their hole cards along with any and all of the board cards to make their best five card poker hand.

Moving to Chicago for the spring and summer for an internship. Wondering if there is any way to play poker anywhere without a car (i.e. public transportation). I've played the cash games at the charitable Chicago games, and really enjoy the soft fields, but I have no idea how to get to them without a car. Is there public transportation to the Hammond casino?
