Haven’t been on in awhile, but for anyone interested...

Poker room was “renovated” in 2017. Which is a fancy way of saying they moved it. For those familiar with the casino - it’s now located in the old Harbourfront Lounge in the corner of the gaming floor that used to host live bands. Old room had 8 tables, new room has 6. It’s functional, but small.

Definitely call ahead to put your name on the list rather than just show up. Gets really busy on the weekends especially and lists will get long and no they won’t open up more tables outside of their “schedule”.

1/2 nl runs all the time (10% - $5 max rake + $1 BBD) 2/5 nl is super rare (as of last year) and the 5/5 PLO goes often and is quite popular. Regular tourneys disappeared at CNS years ago and can only be found on the odd long Holiday weekend now.

I went there on a Saturday recently. Bunch of 1/3 tables running, and a single 2/5 table. Room was full and stayed full all night.

I played in the Casino Nova Scotia (Halifax) poker room on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.

Some quick notes as far as my foggy brain can remember:

- according to their website, their poker room is open Wednesday thru Saturday from 4:00pm to 2:00am
- 6 tables, each being 9 handed
- when I got there at 6:00pm, there were 4 tables running; I believe all of them were 1/3 NL (I think $300 maximum BI), although it is possible one of the tables was a bigger game (2/5 NL I think, and at the very least they had a list of interest for it)
- due to these time restrictions, I found it tricky getting onto a table
- I showed up randomly at 6:00pm, put my name on the list, and by 7:00pm I wasn't even close to getting in a game nor was another game going to start any time soon (due to the understandable fear of games getting too shorthanded)
- so the key is to phone into the poker room beforehand @ (902) 496-6166 and get your name on a list (name will remain on the list for 2 hours)
- so I left and went to dinner, then phoned in at 8:00pm, and by the time I went back to the poker room at 9:15pm I instantly got seated, although by that time there were only 3 tables running and they were all shorthanded (at about ~7 players each)
- room staff seemed friendly and accommodating enough
- just like any other 1/3 NL game I've played, everyone seemed to be a pleasant reg and knew each other, although doubtful anyone at my table was capable of beating the rake long term
- the rake was listed at 10% up to a maximum of $7 (nice, possibly the best rake in Canada?)
- they also have an easy peasy old style bad beat jackpot (Aces over Tens fullhouse beaten by quads+, both cards in hand must play), which was up to about $16K (and I'm assuming they drop $1 for)
- one annoying thing is that the room itself doesn't have a cage, so they encourage your first BI (as well as obviously cashouts) to be done at the casino main cage (which can have a lineup), and meanwhile future BIs look to be done at the table

Played for ~1 hour to get a chip for my collection and booked a $13 win, lol (enquire within regarding my coaching rates, ldo).
