I live in Halifax, and although I've been to the casino a couple of times for drinks, I haven't played any games there, including poker. I was thinking about going down tonight to play some limit. Have any of you guys ever been there? Are the games any good? How soft are they compared to other casinos, and compared to online? What are the lowest stakes you can play? How is the rake? Anything else I should know?

Limit doesn't really run as far as I know anymore. 1/2 NL runs almost always, and 2/5 sometimes runs. Games are okay.

Limit doesn't run any more. A couple of months ago the floor was going around the tables gauging interest in limit. There was a fair bit of interest getting a $5/$10 LHE going on weekends. But nothing has come of it.

Rake is capped $4, plus $1 for BBJ. There's always $1/$2. $2/$5 often will run. I've seen $5/$10 occasionally or multiple $2/$5 tables. I haven't played other casinos so I can't say if the games are tougher than other places. The $1/$2 on Thurs-Sat evenings is usually loose and pretty friendly.

Games are getting better with an influx of younger internet type players. Still a lot of money to be made from the weak/tight regs and online players not adjusting to seeing flops at least 3way every, and I mean it, every hand.

2/5 game is pretty lucrative, though I've never played it I know a lot of the regs couldn't beat .25/.50 online. I would want to be comfortably rolled to be playing in that game though, obv

This casino is straight up garbage for the most part, but the poker room is actually decent. All "poker players" get free parking and free non-alcoholic drinks.

Limit games never run anymore, but you can always find 1/2 and usually 2/5 NL games spread. Apparently in January 2011 they will start spreading a PLO game on Sundays. This should be very juicy given the average CNS player has an IQ < 50. Unfortunately, so do most of the dealers, so be prepared to see very few hands/hour and to hear people repeatedly asking what the size of the pot is.

The 1/2 game is extremely soft, filled with everything from absolute droolers who limp/check/call every hand, to ******s who bet and raise like they're trying to go broke as fast as possible, to old nits who only play AA.

Keep in mind that 1/2 live is a totally different game then any online poker game. Be prepared to see lots of 7+ way limped pots and people opening for 5-10x when someone finally does open. Also, people will rarely bet in relation to the size of the pot, so don't mistake small bets for weakness. For example, it is common to see 1/2 players open for $12 with AA and get called in 4 places, then c-bet $15 into the $60 pot.

Good luck at the tables (unless it's my table, in which case I want to eat you alive and strip you of every ****in penny).

Hahaha that's Doug.
Has he been wearing the same clothes for the past 8 years? Maybe he should stop playing poker and go buy a new outfit.

There is also an Asian girl there who plays very predictably. One time she raised preflop in MP and she said "I raise I have a big pair" and she made it $12. I instantly knew she had 77 from history so I raised to $77 OTB with KK cause I knew she couldn't fold 77 if the bet was exactly 77., and she flat called with $20 behind, then check-folded the flop. (and I had a set too lol)

hahaha Doug what a dirtbag POS
lolz i think thats shin. i wanna rail her degenerate ass so bad.

ever meet this one reg named "winston"? greasy ass mofo with slicked back ultra greasy and dyed black hair, always chewing gum, always wearing a cheap leather jacket and cheap gold watch/rings. constantly mumbling and eternally grumpy (the results of being a long time degenerate "grinder"). plays soooo damn tight that it literally pisses me off when i see someone raise any of his bets or raises because you know his worst possible hand is KK. he's also been known to utter such phrases as "women belong at home in the kitchen, not at the poker table" angrily whenever a woman is winner, and proudly declares that he gets a table change any time there are 2 women or more at a table. **** YOU SCUMBAG

just got back from my trip to halifax and I played a decent amount of hours at CNS. I think i played against every reg mentioned itt including the dirty sailor. won about 800 at 200nl.

more regs that haven't been mentioned.

-morbidly obese guy, literally 500 pounds, wears ******ed shades and a visor and talks lolstrategy. 200nl PRO gotta put muh shades on!

-lanky as **** old guy wearing a poker hat. nitty ****er only plays >JJ. he's friends with the half ton 200nl pro. saw them taking their winnings for a night on the town, halifax style.

bunch of other nitty ethnic dudes and a few droolers.

playing with all the old guys is depressing as hell, playing with college aged kids is 10x more fun but the action usually isn't as good.

i know these 2 broz. the fat guy is also a pool hustler who can be found hustling at doolys when hes not in the poker room. we call him JR. his buddy we call "the old jew wigger" because hes old, looks uber jewish, but is a wigger??? (rocks puma and fubu clothes and jeanz). theyre both really tight but it works for them and theyre consistent winners, although they never win or lose too much because of their nitty low variance styles

love this place

I sat beside paul for like 2 hours at 1/2. every hand he would mumble something and swear at the dealer. first hand i played in the bb and flopped 2 pair with j2 and stacked some azn guy. paul wasn't amused that i hit two pair my first hand at the table. he was on some epic nit tilt. I wanted to bad beat him so bad just to see what he would do lololol.

don't think i played against john but i definitely saw him and he was rockin the dirty sweats with his ass hanging out, dirty ****er.
