When it's most packed and thus the most difficult time to get parking. Nice.

If you've ever tried going there, couldn't get parking and went to Bay 101 instead, mention that to the shift manager next time you're there.

They won't care. Unless I'm playing 5/5/10 or 50/100 then they don't care about losing my business. They're all about appearances over there, and they give preference to the high roller tables when they only have 14 poker tables.

Exactly.

They want to think they are Bellagio lite. They want to spread big games, makes them feel like a Vegas casino. Only thing Vegas about them is the food prices. The 10-25 NL setup is a joke. Roped off, wine decanters, food. They sniff the jocks of the 100/200 players, which consists of a player pool of 10-15 players maybe.

They disrespect the players that play 3/6, 6/12. They got rid of the 8/16 because they don't want "Garden City" games at the new place. Some of the employees have mentioned that they call it "boutique service". Gimme a break. I don't play there as much as I used to, partly due to the lack of respect they show the regs.

If you want a lesson on how not to run a poker room, take notes from these guys. They can't even fill 14 tables, after having enough business for 50 tables when they opened. The shift managers are the most useless collection of non talent ever assembled. Less than a month open and the business is the same as at the old place. Well done.

Why do y'all play at CM if you're unhappy with the games, the floor, the parking, the food, the smell, etc.?

I only played there while the O8 game was running. Now I'm back to bay 101 playing LHE.

Because the employees, many of whom I have come to know quite well, deserve my patronage. The majority of them do a good job, and they appreciate my tokes.

They spread what I play, just not enough. Have no problem with the floor, I rarely play on weekends so parking not a problem, I rarely eat there and if I get hungry I eat next door, the scent doesn't bother me. I don't deal with the incompetent management staff.

I do enjoy the surroundings, eye candy, music, and the poker staff. I won't let incompetent management that does little for the employees keep me from playing there and affecting their income.

Same here. They are nice to their regulars. It's just that there's not much poker to be played there and there's plenty of poker to be played at Bay 101. And Bay 101 feels like a real card room, because it is. M8trix has some poker tables just as a "for show" sort of thing, like "look South Bay, this is what Vegas is like! We've got pretty girls! We've got pretty lights. Look, there's a few people playing poker, they do that in Vegas."

I've seen before in a few posts there is a 9/18 game now. Wouldn't that be the replacement for it?

I've been curious about the 9/18 game so now is a good time to ask you guys about it. Does it run consistently? Does it have a kill? Is the drop still $5?

When I visit the Penninsula I've played 6/12 at Bay 101 or GC (or even sometimes making the little bit longer drive to AJ's for their $3 drop) because I never liked the kills of the 8/16 games. 9/18, assuming no kill would be sweet for next time I come, even the drop was still $5.

No kill. Drop is still $5. It's a better stake level between 6/12 and 15/30 than 8/16 imo.

3/9 blind structure?

Runs everyday. They use the red $3 chips. 1/3 chip blind structure.

9/18 is the replacement for the 8/16, but it is a new game, thus no ties to the old place. I haven't played it yet, but from the looks of the players it should still be a loose game.

Smell is too much for me there. Been there twice. Overnight, smell was mild, but the time I went from 1-9pm, it was overwhelming. Not to mention, it's so dark in there. Doesn't look like the O8 runs much anymore. Game should be moved to Bay anyhow.

So many haters wow. I've been to this place four times now and every time I loved it. The only problem was the huge lists in the beginning but now thats not so much of an issue any more.

I don't smell a thing when I go in there. Every floor person remembers my name and uses it every time they see me. The sandwiches at the deli/coffee shop are amazing. There is more space around each poker table than any poker room I have ever been to. There is hot ass everywhere. The dealers are really solid for a brand new casino. WTF else do you want?

So they don't cater to small stakes players. If you are mad about that you just don't understand business.

It is not a brand new casino. Just relocated.

Bigger limit games come and go. Small limit games stay around. Small limit games drop as much or more than big limit games.

oh ok so people are mad at them because they think they are making a poor business decision and not because they want to be catered to as small stakes players, gotcha.

I played 1/2/3 NLHE at M8trix on Monday evening. I didn't notice a smell. M8trix is easier for me to get to from the Redwood City area by Caltrain and bus number 10 than Bay 101. Should I try out the 1/2/2 NLHE at Bay 101 anyway? Bankroll limitations prevent me from playing 2/3/5 NLHE at this time.

The only thing to know about the 1/2/2/ at Bay 101 is the max buy-in is $200 but the bring-in to see the flop is $4! So, you are effectively starting with 50bb instead of 100bb at the 1/2/3 with the $300 max buy-in. Just something to consider.

I've talked to two supervisors at Bay about this in the past and neither one has told me numbers that agree with that claim. Both have quoted numbers that said the hourly drop increases with each increase in stakes up to 40/80. Bigger games than that would drop more if they're always full, but they're also much more likely to go shorthanded.

People keep on complaining about the special treatment to the big players, which makes me think that they have no idea about what their value is to the casino. It's not just the drop from the game that matters there.

Also, the player pool for 100/200 is more than 10-15 players. There's probably 20 or so who play multiple days a week, and then quite a few more who are either visitors, occasional drop-ins, shot takers, or just magical unicorns with money to burn.

As it happens, I don't think they're going to succeed to attracting the bigger games there long term for a variety of reasons, but I do think it's a much better business decision than anyone's giving them credit for. There are a number of other factors at play here, which I'm not going to get into because I don't want to get into spreading gossip about the players in that game, but if I were the manager at M8trix, I would snap break a smaller game if the ~5 regs playing big limit games at M8trix wanted to start one. I don't know the 10/25 players as well, but I would guess a similar dynamic is at play there.

FWIW, my personal opinion of the place is that it looks nice, the smell is kind of irritating when I first get in but doesn't bother me afterwards, it's kind of dark, the board sucks, the prices are high, and I generally won't bother playing there because the games I want just don't go regularly enough, but I'm perfectly happy to go there when hanging out with friends whatever games are actually going there.
