Any reviews or comments about MTTs in Montreal? I'm going in a few weeks (Thurs-Sun) and prefer them to ring games. Thanks, all.

How often do they hold 5-10? Why isn't it always listed?

Almost never mid week, usually never above 5-5, and even that doesn't get going many times, just 2-4 tables of 2/5 and the rest 1/2. Not sure about weekend.

And did they change buy-in for 5-10 game? Last time I played it when they had it (probably a good 8 months ago), buy in was $500-$1500.

On the note of the french cards: seriously, this is not a big deal at all. The jack is a Valet, e.g. the kid that parks your car. Queen is a Dame. King is a Roi, like Royal. That's three letters you need to remember. Seriously. It's not like all of a sudden the numbers are in Sanskrit and there are new suits or something.

I've never been to a casino and I'm heading up in late July for the first time. Any advice? I have no idea how to handle tables etc. Do I call in and try to reserve a seat? How far ahead should I call in? Who do I call? I want to start playing 1/2 possible move up to 2/4, 2/5. Fishiest games there? Are they all pretty soft? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Sorry, can't help you with that one. I'm a micro stakes part time grinder and full time student so I don't have the funds to play 5-10. I would presume it's mostly run on weekends.

They don't do the call ahead thing at the Casino de Montreal. You show up, ask for your name to be put on the wait list and you can then burn some time sitting at the bar watching sports or burn time AND cash by playing blackjack and war in the poker room. 1/2 is like 1/2 at anywhere else, softer than a pair of tittehs.

Ain't that great there. After round 3 or 4, it's a goddamn flippament. Unless you're playing in some of the special 500 or 1000 buy in events in which case, it's usually blinds increase every half hour or 45 minutes starting at 25/50 with starting stack of about 10K.

Yeah, I was there for a night and it took all of 5 minutes to get used to this. Really not a big deal. You can pretty much tell just by looking at the pictures alone.

They just got bilingual cards. KQJ on one corner and RDV on the other.

I still use the french side when peeking at mine.

Makes it more confusing imo. But I guess you can get ultra sneaky reads if you see some guy looking at the corner of his cards, then thinking for a sec, then turning them around to look at the other corner.

LOL, I look at both sides if I feel like it even with 75s since the letter/numbers are of different font/size for the diff languages.

I'll be on the lookout for that though lol.

As long as you don't lift up the cards from the table entirely, I'm not going to attack you with a rake.

Are you a dealer at the Montreal Casino? Cuz dealers have a nasty habit of attacking all my pots with a rake.

I haven't been to Montreal since September. Do they still have a ton of Poker Pro tables? Do they still limit the number of 1/2 and 2/5 games running? What is the rake?

Its crazy good now.

They removed all but like 2 of the PokerPRO machines and put them in a different area (which is sick cuz who the f cares about 0.50/1.00 anyway). The area that used to have the electronic tables now has pit games - blackjack, war, other stuff I think... This is sick since it attracts clueless gamblers to try out poker and spew cash.

The waiting times have also improved drastically since last fall. Now wait is pretty small for 1/2, 2/5, 5/5 and there are more tables/dealers. They will now open like 10 1/2 tables if there is enough demand.

Highly recommend it now.

^ What he said.

I'm surprised how quickly the poker room improved. They also have TVs in pit game areas outside of the poker room that show the waitlist for poker so you can go shoot some craps or play some roulette and still know when to get back to the poker room.

The rake is very high. I think the 2/5 is 10% up to $10, plus $1 BBJ.

I know the 1/2 is 10% up to $7, +$1 BBJ

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Not really the casino. But it's the first poker series tournament in Montreal and it looks pretty interesting (at four aces). http://www.fouracespoker.ca/eng/inde...d=21&Itemid=59
