I asked the floor why they won't open a new table for us and his reply was they didn't have enough dealers but in 40 minutes some new dealers are coming in. Shipped it to the reserve and had a seat and free steak waiting for me.
that pretty much sums up the montreal casino experience

aren't unions fun? new dealers generally arrive around 5pm on weekdays so they seem to add tables around that time each day.

I really don't understand why this is only on friday/saturday. a cash game like this should be on everyday. I ask the chef's to put a list for the 5/10 on a random day like tuesday and they look at me like i'm joking lol. I mean the 5/5 is so crapshoot now that everyone buys in for 200 and there's no deepstack 5/10, no wonder everyone is switching over to private games.

i played in the 180+5 tournament... and the blind structures are ridiculous fast... By the time you reach final table, with an avg stack, 1 orbit is like 20-25% of ur stack... they really should be 30 mins blinds.

Hey guys, I'm going to Canada for spring break and am planing on playing some poker at the Casino de Montreal and just had a few questions about the casino for anyone who has played there before.

My first question is if they speak english there or is it mostly french?

Since I'm only 19 I've only every played at Turning Stone, and I am wondering what I do to get into a game here. I was looking to play either $1/2 or 2/5 nlh but cant find anything on their website about how many tables they run or what the buy-ins are for these games. I'll be there from Friday till Tuesday, should I assume that Friday and Saturday will be the best days to go?

Also, does anyone know what they take as a rake there?

Thanks in advance.

I'm a student studying in Montreal and I've been going to the casino on a regular basis.

They speak English and French. All the dealers are proficient in both languages so if the first time they address you in French, just say "anglais s'il vous plait" and they'll talk to you in English. However, the players can choose to speak English or French as they are both acceptable languages at the table but if they're speaking to you and they know you don't speak French, they'll swap to English.

What you do is go up to the podium infront of the tables and ask for your name to go on the waiting list. Then you can sit around the bar and wait for your name to be called. Fridays and Saturdays are best to go but go during the afternoon to avoid the long wait. Sundays are pretty good too and weekdays are kinda iffy.

During rush hour, they'll have 6 1-2 tables and probably 4 or 5 2-5 tables. Otherwise, it's 3-4 1-2 and sometimes only 1 2-5. I think rake is 10% capped at $6 plus 1 for the bad beat jackpot. Don't let that get to you though, the game is soft. This is pretty much the game plan for the average 1-2 tard

1. Limp
2. Flat massive raise
3. Flop pair
4. Profit

You will see alot of limping and 9-10 handed pots. You will see people calling 3bets with KJ or A8. You will hear "well, I had a straight draw, it's 50/50" or "hey, I paid for the flush" when he called 2 PSBs to hit a backdoor flush. It's insane how you can bloat the pot when you actually wake up with a monster. A lot of these people don't have a fold button.

PM me your skype or msn. I'm thinking of going to the casino too and I'll be happy to go with you if you don't mind.

Hi guys. Great thread going.

HAve a question for people who are/have played the MTL casino daily tourneys. I just downloaded the event calander for the month of Feb and see most days at a 100+20 and it says limit of 60 entries.

I am looking for insight on payouts and rake?

I am a regular @ snakes and am seriously looking for chage because the rake is getting crazy for tourney play. It is seriously turning me off. Not even worth playing anymore for such lousy payouts.

Let me know, thanks guys.

I'll be going in the week of Feb 22nd (reading week).. hopefully the wait is not too long during weekdays.

no, the wait is not long at all, they really fixed that up which is great.

On another note, bad beat of 160k was won today at a 1/2 table!

I think they should scratch all the electronic tables, and spread omaha and stud games on the other side but that'd be a bad idea since I doubt they have enough (if any) dealers who know how to deal stud and omaha games.

Can the electronic tables spread Omaha and stud, b/c that would be a lot easier and faster than having dealers for the games. Even if they could, odds are 99.99% they don't spread Stud.

it'll take a long time before they even start to think about spreading PLO. I dont' think stud games are gonna happen in the next century lol

Guys, I recently sent the casino an email telling them about this thread, got a reply saying:

Hi,

Just to inform you that we have received your comment left by you about the improvement that could be done for the Montreal Poker room at the Montreal casino. We are now aware of the twoplustwo forum, and we are taking any suggestion that is left by anyone.

Thank you for your comment.
So I guess it would be useful if someone made some sort of realistic list ITT of what the casino can look at improving with their Poker Room in the future?

Poker pro tables are gone! They have been pretty much empty since the dealers arrived a year ago. There was occasional sit-n-gos and a 1/2 games on saturday nights but thats all.

Everybody hated them but I loved them. I have calculated that the 10$ rake and tips are eating up 50% of my profit at the live tables.

They could have tried putting some omaha or even some fast poker on them.
(Fast poker = 5s of 10s max to act). I also have the feeling they never tried to organize big tournaments on them.

There was so many possibilities for these machines but the Casino de Montreal employees saw non of them.

I am sad to see them go.
