I went out to the Friday night tourney at Four Aces last night. They've added guaranteed prize pools like I posted the other day but there are some other format changes as well.

--The starting stack is now 12.5K but there's a $5 dealer add-on at the table for an additional 2.5K. Works out to the same starting stack as before, only a little more expensive.

--There is one rebuy available in the first four levels, but you can rebuy any time your stack is at or below the opening 15K. It used to be only available when you went broke. You can do the dealer add-on at that time as well. If you wanted to, you could start with 30K by rebuying before the first hand.

--There were at least 100 runners to start the night, and some "alternates" (I guess on the waiting list or something) were were allowed to come in when people went broke during the first four levels. These weren't people picking up dead stacks, these were new chips in the tournament.

I'm not sure how, because everything pointed to this structure being even slower, but the whole tournament was wrapped up by 1:30 or so.

Brief TR here

Went to the casino on Friday night. I was surprised by how many people were there considering it was thanksgiving. Got to the poker room at maybe 930ish and though it was pretty full, I got a seat almost right away. In my young and budding poker career, I have not sat at a softer, looser, juicier table.

Introducing the key players

Seat 2: Tightish reg. Atleast I think he's a reg. Knows lots of players and dealers in the room and knows what he's doing.

Seat 3: Blond kid with a 500-600 stack by the time I sat down. He later got involved in a 1K pot.

Seat 4: Your hero.

Seat 5: Aw man, where do I even begin? He's the part of the species of Lagasaurus Rex. Very talkative and chatty. Really cool guy, fun to play with. If only he were on my right.

Seat 7: A standard regfish on a less than full stack.

Seat 8: Bald, big guy wearing a black jacket and black dress shirt. Has a massive roll of 20s he constantly whips out to rebuy. Looks like a henchman in a James Bond movie. Probably on tilt for most of the session.

I sit down and bleed out maybe 120-150ish in the course of the first hour and a half. Made a few loose plays I justified with implied odds. I was constantly rebuying up to a full 100bb stack (I had some quarters in my back pocket). Lagasaurus Rex was table captaining; his stack was on a roller coaster ride. At one point, he started opening for 25 and cbetting 200 on the flop. Straddling, double straddling. I join in a few straddles to keep him happy. The black suited henchman got stacked quite a few times during the course of the evening and got on tilt. Opening for ridiculous raise sizes and jamming lots of flops. I played tight all night so my raises got respect from everyone except the henchman. Anyways, significant events in no particular order.

1. Shortstacking scum sits down with 80 bucks. Proceeds to triple up through me and some other guy on his first hand. He realized he's at a crazy action table and won't stop complaining about that fact during his short stay. After he folded AK to a raise from lagasaurus and 3bet from tilting henchman, he asked for a table change and left. I'd classify that as a hit 'n run.

2. The 1 K pot. Yeah, it really isn't that rare but the board was QT9xx, 3 straight 3 flush. The blond kid to my right takes it down with pocket 7s. Lagasaurus Rex shows down 22. Don't remember the action clearly but there was some raising, someone pushed preflop and the blond kid and Lagasaurus built up a huge side pot.

3. Thinking about this makes me lol. Some other guy sat down in seat 1 and proceeds to drop down to a 40ish stack. He didn't buy in for full. He open shoves for 37. I call, and the tilting henchman calls. Flop comes Q high, rainbow. Henchman bets 10 into a dry pot and I insta raise to 50 knowing if he's got any piece of the board, he'll stack off and that if he didn't he might get into a dick waving contest with me. TPTK is pretty much teh nutz here. He raised to 120ish (wasn't really sure. He put a stack of reds that didn't quite add up to 20 chips on top of a couple quarters). I cover so I insta jam, thinking at the very worst, we're chopping, and very best, he has KQ, QJ, or some ******ed Q. His reaction to my all in was priceless; he exclaimed "Oh!" and brought his hand up to his heart, kind of like what ladies do in movies after hearing some bad or shocking news. He folds (LOL, UNDERSTANDING OF POT ODDS FAIL) with about 70-80 behind. Shortstacker and I show and he has 99. Alas, he binks the 9 on the river. Oh well.

So, I had a great night. If I caught better cards, I probably could've made a bigger profit but a +300 evening ain't too shabby. It was actually +330 but I decided to let the 30 ride 3 times on blackjack or lose it. Ended up busting on the 2nd ride. Meh.

Edit: Ok, so maybe it wasn't that brief

Could someone give me a rundown on the differences of 2/5 and 5/5? I'm assuming 5/5 is alot more aggro, but apart from that, any differences?

2/5 is very passive, and people still do stupid mistakes. 5/5 is more aggro, less mistakes are made, pots are bigger, people tend to make more moves, Stack sizes are much bigger. That being said, it's not a huge difference or anything, I guess 5/5 has much bigger swings, if ur able to handle that than you should be fine.

Went there for a 3 day weekend. Had a blast, but was completely card dead. At least the table was juicy, and there were alot of fish. At least I broke even, but had a good time.

They had a pretty sweet 10/20 game the other day .

I've been hearing rumors of a 25/50.

Out of curiosity, do they use 10 dollar chips for 10/20 or do you have to have massive piles of redbirds?

Don't count on 25/50. The floor persons look for excuses not to start 10/20 games instead of helping out, and there aren't enough big players in the casino for 25/50. Most of the guys who are willing to play 5/10 and 10/20 don't buy in for much and play scared money. As the stakes go up, the nittiness in these guys goes up. I mean, they limp/fold AQ face up thinking your $100 raise at 10/20 is supermassive when you're playing LAG and raising suited connectors every chance you get (true story).

The casino is really not interested in helping us start big games. For 25/50 to happen, some kind of floor person would have to actually give a **** and put effort into recruiting players. Not going to happen. The guys who work there have a way of making you feel like a nuisance rather than a customer. They'll say anything to get rid of you if you're trying to start a table but they don't want to. Yesterday they allowed us to start a 10/20 list, but with no intention of starting the game. They were ****ing with us. We had 15 guys willing to play. Anybody else hates these guys as much as I do? It's pretty incredible that so many people can work at the same place and all happen to be pieces of ****. They're the kinds of arrogant bastards who do the very minimum they can to help you out without even looking you in the face or saying hi to you. They're supposedly well paid, so I don't what the **** their problem is. This is proof that the government can't get anything right. Their casino makes a million dollars a second, and they're not capable of hiring 1 person who has as much as a redeeming quality.

Wow, I guess I really needed to vent about this ****ing place. There are some rich guys in town so I've been playing for like 4 days straight, but this place can be hard to put up with.

No 10 dollar chips, but no massive piles of redbirds. Reds aren't used much post-flop, and guys don't really care about running out of them. They simply use a green chip to post blinds and limp.

Yes they have trouble starting games. It's extremely disorganized. On Friday there was a 150+ person waiting list for 1/2 70+ for 2/5. I kid you not....

I know there was a tournament running. I know it's what's considering "big". They should have made more tables instead. Kept a separate room for it or something. Don't leave so many people waiting to play... I swear all I kept hearing while waiting at the bar was "let's go to snakes" or "let's go to four aces" and people just left. They just have terrible set up.

I was there tonight. Every table was filled... on a Tuesday, They really can't accommodate a weekday crowd. How will they handle a weekend crowd? Then they complain when the room dies...

5/5 is a whole bunch of players who just want massive stacks of red btw. You see mountains. 5/10 wasn't so bad, but 5/5 is super mountains.

I used to use massive red chips, but it was so annoying when i had to bet 250+. so now i just buyin for 100 in reds and the rest in blacks. I like how they changed the 5/10 buyin to 500-2k, finally they did something right. the 10/20 will become like the 5/10 deep before, 1500-5k and will hardly run but at least they will get a decent 5/10 running everyday.

saturday morning was pretty juicy a guy calling 100$ shove with J5s and calling 210$ shove on flopp with J3o which was second pair... that tilted a better player for a while which made the game really juicy for a bit.

Probably someone else using my 2p2 screen name. I sign up with Franklin at the casino. On Friday, I was sitting home, watching V for Vendetta, sipping on Vitamin Water, and recovering from a week long cold plus an all night puking session.

Give some credit guys, the casino is 10x better then what it used to be. The problem is with Quebec and all the limitations they put on poker games, it takes months sometimes years just to make any changes in a poker room. Pretty obvious since the casinos have been asking to spread Omaha for quite some time but are still waiting on a reply from government. I guess poker isnt at the top of their list of important things to do....

for sure, it has been so much better since they got rid of the electronic side.

for example, folded to me on BTN, I raise 67o to 10, SB calls. flop is 7 high, i bet 3/4 pot, get called. turn is T, villain checks i bet again he ships i call and he shows KJo. gg mhig

We should have a 2+2 meet up in Montreal at some point. Get to the casino on a Saturday afternoon, play for a couple hours, leave at about 9ish, get food, and then go enjoy the Montreal night life. I want to put some faces to screen names dammit!

I went up yesterday, I go about once every two weeks and picked up a Casino card. Since there isn't a hotel attached, do you get food points instead of free nights? I asked them about it and they said the hand of the day. If thats the only thing its pretty weak.
