I'm moving to Perth in a few months and would like any info anyone out there can provide on the No Limit Holdem games. I don't play tournaments.

I was wondering if the 2/5, 5/10 and 10/20 cash games are still being played in Crown Perth? It was my understanding that the 5/10 and 10/20 go on the weekend. Is that still the case and do multiple tables of each game run or just one table?

Does the 2/5 game run on a daily basis? Multiple tables? What's the minimum and maximum buyin and do people usually buy in deep? How are the games and the level of competition? Does the 2/5 game run around the clock or from open to close during weekdays? What time does the first 2/5 table usually start?

In addition to Crown Perth Casino, is there anywhere else that I can play 2/5 and above? Home Games or anywhere else?

Thanks in advance,
Poker Trotter

Cash games at Crown Casino Perth daily are 2/5 NLH with a 50min- 500 max buyin..usually up to 6 tables by 8.30pm mid week and 10+ tables on weekend..."usually"
Small PLO game wednesday "sometimes" 1/2 or 1/3
Best to check their website and give them a call and ask a few questions..
Reg bigger game on Thurs 5/10 ...usually a 500-2000 buyin...
It's been mentioned previously that its one of the "softest" poker rooms in Australia...
No "time charge" but rake is fairly hefty.....as is most poker rooms in Oz these days...make sure you check before you play for rule variations and differences in relation to folding/no talking during hand/string bets/no headphones for cash games etc etc..
Good luck

I did call the poker room but it was over two years ago and the supervisor told me the 5/10 ran thurs, Fri and Sat. It's unfortunate that it's only running one day a week now. She also told me that the buyin was 800 max for 2/5. I guess more has changed. I really appreciate the updated info. The headphones rule is going to kill me but i guess "soft" games can make up for it thanks for the info.

hey mate. the 2 5 game in perth is softer than any 1 2 game you will ever play. a few good regs but if you table select properly you should be ok..on weekends most tables go limp limp limp limp limp limp raise cal call call call call call...its crazy action..

Hi

I might be about to be made redundant and am considering trailing playing live cash games ($2/$5) at Perth's Crown Casino. I play on the side at the moment (both online and live) and was hoping that if my current hourly rate was sustainable I could avoid having to go back to the 9-5. Reading comments on forums (mostly based on the US) it seems like a $50hr profit is the best you can hope for.

In Australia poker is tax free so whatever I take home I keep. What is a realistic hourly rate I can expect? What further information do I need to post to help with any advice?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers

Chip

Just started to play live myself at Crown Perth and seems to be quite soft, on my 2-3 visits within the last fortnight have played both 1/2 and 2-5 and would say I might stick to the 2-5. Have yet to go on a Friday/Sat night so don't know what the action is like but im told from the chats I have had that it gets quite busy and is pretty chilled game. Few regulars I have already spotted always sitting with big stacks of chips. Don't know if this is chalked up to them being good or the herd being terrible. Look forward to finding out might talk myself into sitting in a 2-5 on a weekend in the coming week or so.

If anyone here is from perth and plays 2-5 semi decent/reg, or is reg online id be happy to swap skypes and talk hands/general poker. Always looking for poker buddies to improve with.

Cheers.

Are there any home games going on in Perth? I am looking to play for some higher stakes which Crown Perth does not offer regularly.

Are people still curious about Poker in Perth?

2/5 is absolutely ludicrous. Sat down at a table on a saturday night with 3 other regs on the table, family limped pot to the button who raised to $55 and then proceeded to get 7 callers and 3 of them were all in by the river, this was the very first hand I saw, and it was quite common for these kinds scenarios.

I had AA in the BB and open raised to $55 got called by KJ out of UTG and J9 in MP and went busto on a JJQ flop. (I only had like $250 behind at the start of the hand whatever was waiting for a mate yada yada im a fish)

The 2/5 during the week is dominated by the elderly and the "pros" , 2 - 3 of which who do actually make a living off this game, but as of recent we've lost a few people to Melbourne and 1 of the most successful players in our room has determined that Sydney is better for poker, even more so then Melbourne. He only really stayed in Perth because of how cheap it is to get to Macau from here.

$1/$2 runs once a week on Wednesday nights for $150 max (It's designed to bring in new players), and this is what I play normally. I'm happy to sit down for a 10 hour session on a Wednesday night and the game isn't as crazy as 2/5, with alot of players being uni students or people who use it as a way to convert from online to live. The game is tougher then 2/5 at times as alot of the 1/2 regs try to be as logical as possible.

1/2 stacks have been hitting around the $7-800 mark in recent times, this time last year it was rare to see more then $500 at a stack, now it's fairly common and the people who have these stacks are the 1/2 regs. A few of the uni players come in, smash out a few hundred $$ extra and then leave. Its extra spending money for them.

PLO is usually by request only, and the casino tournaments are almost as bad as the pub league.

However there is a new "cash league" called "Wynners", it plays 5 times a week in different venues I believe, it offers 2/3 NLHE and PLO with a very cheap rake (%10 at $10, which is cheap for Perth).

If you can somehow get over the fact that it's still a pub league and the players are usually boozed up (this league offers free drinks to an extent), then you may find this lucrative. I know someone personally who has amassed around $10k profit since Wynners opened about 5 months ago. It's not a huge $$ figure but considering it's $2/$3 it should say something about how soft the games are, however being a pub league the license is only a 6 hour licence.

I've actually applied for a job at the Casino, because the pays decent and I think it's more lucrative to save for a $1/3 Bankroll and travel expenses, and fly to Sydney twice a month for 3 days at a time (About $600 return for flights and accomodation at a 4star hotel near the airport, cheaper if you want to do backpackers accomodation), rather then the $15k Bankroll you'd need for 2/5 at a venue that's constantly getting less budgets and offers no reward program for its players.

I'm there regularly so feel free to ask anything else.

Hello,

I'm in Perth right now visiting my girlfriend. I've been in Crown Perth Casino a couple of times and I've seen some cash tables open, all of them were 1/3. There were some regs and the rake is still the insane 10% ($15 cap). I guess one table of 2/5 could be open on weekends but I am not sure.

If anyone wants more information about the poker situation here or have a beer (or two) just pm me here.

Will be playing some poker in Perth in early may. Is it worthwhile trying out the 'wynerrs' games or best just to hit the casino?

Also are tables running 24/7 in the casino?

Yep, Perth is still much the same. Big rake wherever you go (even tourneys raked higher than they used to).

Wynners don't seem to have much of a presense any more. My friends runs Shark Poker in the pubs. And there is PPL. too. Pub games are very soft and the omaha and short deck omaha games get huge by the end of the night. And pub games are somewhere every single night.

There are rumours that home games of all sorts may be available, I wouldn't know, I would only ever SPONTANEOUSLY gamble in someones house as that is all that is legal

There are 3 series per year that are fun for us that have moved toward tournament play
