Im thinking of going down to Canterbury Park this weekend for the horses and maybe to play some poker. how often do these "survivor games" run? im assuming on the weekends it should run more frequent, but im not sure how popular those are. any advice is appreciated.

they're pretty popular.. i'd say they start running weekdays around 5 pm, and on weekends ~3.. but once they start they usually keep at least one survival going pretty late

i went this past friday and at one time they had 4 survival tournies running.. two $230s ($200 + 30, 1/2 blinds first hour, 2/2 second hour), and two $330s, (1/3 -->2/3)

i also went and during one session they wanted to play a 3 hour survival and everyone at the table agreed, canterbury charged an extra $15, but we extended it

how often does the 15/30 run at cp? round the clock? i've been up there before and i was told 8/16 never dies (but i don't really wanna play that low). Do they ever get multiple 15/30 games? if so how often? Any information would be cool.

Others would no better than I, but you'll very rarely not have a 15/30. Probably weekdays between early and mid-morning it may break. But if you go during the day and into the evening it should always be running. 2-3 on weekends.

when is CP going to start runnig spread limit? i know they are more of a limit poker card club but i think it would attract more casual players/gamblers than the survival games do. most people dont want to play limit poker and arent waiting for survival games to fill up. seems like a no brainer unless i dont know something?

I doubt they ever will - they could have started years ago but they seem happy just being the limit guys

The thing about spread limit is that it sucks.

Bad for the house and bad for the players.
Bad players cannot win in this game and eventually don't come back.

I was there last night. One or two survivor tournys were running. They died out a little earlier though. The last one ended a little after midnight. The games were pretty soft, but man that rake is tough and there just aren't enough games to game select even if you could move tables. F you very much Minnesota legislature.

Spread limit will not ever be spread, they have so much action on the blue and yellow chip games with so many losing/breakeven regulars at each limit (2-4 - 8/16), it really is worth playing and learning FLHE.

The 15 game runs 7 days a week, sometimes all thru the night and into the next day. Morning/afternoon regulars are very bad and the night crew is very predictable and therefore beatable. The game does change once some of the more thinking players arrive in the early evenings and usually they will start a must move that last til around midnight. The 30 game hasnt been going as much, most of the guys seem to be in vegas but the 15 game is extremely profitable right now. On friday night the game had 1 winning yellow chip player who is exploitable, he was the best player by far. The other 7-8 players were all losing players and it really was like free money.

Learn limit poker if you plan on playing here. The survivors are ok from my exp but the 200 and 300s seem to be very boring although profitable, this coming from a limit cash player where its non stop action basically at every table. The 500+ survivors change and the play/action goes up. Dont be afraid to start a list for a game/buyin! People will join, ppl call in and see what the list looks like and a lot of the 15/30 and 30/60 players will play in the high buy in survivors. No reason we cant get a 1000+ NL game going every night. There is def some action junkies in the room every night, dont be afraid to go ask around if people want to start some games!

Coworker is telling me they are definitely closing because of state-run gaming regulation. I'm not doubting him but it makes no sense to me. Every business is under some form of state regulation.

Unless a miracle agreement goes through to avoid the state shutdown, Canterbury is done at midnight tonight. Same for Running Aces (and I plan to be there to watch it happen).

Okay I don't know where to post this;
Is it just me or do a lot of the players at Canterbury have some really bad B.O.?

Can this be expected in most poker rooms? I've only played in three at this point so I'd like to know if this is what I have to look forward to... the other couple weren't nearly as bad.

That sounds really rude, but I honestly would like an answer.
Sorry if I offend anyone, but it's a lot easier for me to ask online.

I have played @ CBY for years. I rarely find someone overly smelly. When you are more apt to experience that is on a Saturday or Sunday when some people have been playing since Friday night.

15/30 every night, it is rare to not see it noon-5am daily. 30/60 most nights.

If you have interest, there has often been 30/60 Holdem/Omaha hi lo mixed.

If you are coming for the Fall Classic, the bigger games and mixed games will have more players than normal and should be going most of the time.
