Found out that for the 200's, they take $3 of the entry as the BBJ drop.

Shameless brag:

I love derby day, cashed in 9 racks at 2am....nice.

*also won $25 black jack bet on way out the door w/ the $20 match play mailed coupon. Toked $5 and have 2 greens and some red in the glove box. It is nice using "rake back" money (MVP card cash) and match coupons for lots of free money.

BTW, I also thought it was interesting that they are NOT charging an entrance fee for the horse season. Hopefully, that brings in some more fish to the poker room this summer.

Wowwow, new room looks great. You walk in and feel like you're in an actual casino. Table games up front, open floor plan - should keep the customers happy and the money flowing. Lists were very deep on Saturday evening. Running Aces better step up its game if it wants to compete.

Will take me a couple trips to get used to all the new stimuli. The sinks in the mens restroom are cool but weird.

The new chairs are awesome

One thing I did notice - they have all nice & new samsung tv's and they all look like complete dog ****. They had a espn basketball feed not in hd and not only was it not in hd but it looked like straight crappy analog. Not sure who the idiot is that hooked up the tv's but blaaaa it's horrible. Looks like they have comcast so there is your answer for it being so bad.

I do like the place though, I think aces still has a nicer feel to it but it's nice.

They have had the AV guys (4-5 people at a time) out several times to fix the TVs. I dont know what the problem is, but someone is giving it some attention.

Why dont they have a PLO tournament during the Canterbury fall poker classic?
I dont see any reason for it, and with its popularity growing I think it would draw alot of people. Just wondering if anyone on here works there, or perhaps knows why they dont. Just seems rather odd to me.

FWIW, Running Aces briefly had PLO tournaments (two of them???). Many of the dealers had almost no idea what they were doing. Players were constantly telling dealers how to determine what the next allowable bet was and then arguing among themselves about which of their calculations was correct.

IF canterbury were to run PLO tournaments, they'd likely need to have training sessions for the dealers there who are 99.9% experienced with holdem and probably rusty at PLO.

I was there from about 1pm 'til 6pm yesterday. 269 I think for the 300+40 yesterday... a 30/60 (might have got a 2nd one going, they were calling for it), a 15/30, two 8/16, three 6/12's, a 4/8, several 2/4 and 3/6 games. A 6/12 O8 and I believe they got a 10/20 going as well...

There seemed to be a good amount of single-table satts going on, and at some point they got a $1000+45 Survivor going if I heard right. Not sure about the smaller-stakes Survivors though...

I called to see if they were still open even though the Minnesota DOT has advised no travel in the metro area due to a huge blizzard. City buses have been pulled off the roads. The airport is closed. All but 5 snowplow drivers in one county have been pulled off the road after they worked 12 hours.

"Are you open?"
"Of course."
"but how are you getting home and how are your replacements getting there?"
"that's the biggest question."

There were a lot of survivor tournaments last night! Saw the board had a list for a $1000 survivor but was not paying attention if it got off the ground?

Canterbury was absolutely packed last night, every table was full and a lot of names on the board. Wonder if the DOJ on PS FTP AB had anything to do with it?

Anyone know if there is a dedicated Canterbury thread on here? Looked but could not find anything thru search. Would be nice as I think a lot more people will be playing live for awhile...

I would just assume this is the CP thread, no reason to start a new one--no one really has had interest in poasting about it in the recent past.

I went on Saturday and it was packed like back in days of '04, a buddy of mine works at the cage and let me know of the activity. I overheard a ton of conversation about black friday, mostly "amg I have like a ton of maney locked up online... the f do" while playing blue chips. Be ready for a lot of thinly veiled brags of that nature followed up by atrocious play.

I didn't play long because the rake has gotten even crazier than it was years ago and I want to chase my straight draw on small pots yo. JK, but even at my table there were three online players that were obsessively talking about black friday. It was tiring to hear them blabbing about it just like people discussing the jackpot, get used to that I suppose.

Internet kids, plz play in the 15/30 and bigger. You can beat that easy if you're on online winner. Stay out of my game yo.

.
Was there saturday also. Was very amused by the pasty white 300 pound 20 year old sitting next to me with his monstrous Ivey sized headphones and sunglasses talking about how he was probably going to the WSOP this year, while sitting at a 3/6 table with $150 in $1 chips stacked ten high.

The remodeling is pretty old news. I wouldn't mind seeing a new general Canterbury thread.

Now that the DOJ has ruined my hobby, I'm probably going to have to learn to play some live poker to fill some time.

What's the latest on the Survival Poker? Do games start often? Does just the minimum 1/2 run or does it run higher?

They run nearly every night until 2am during the week and later on weekends. They start about once/hour-but they will start when they have a full table. The blinds are 1/2 for the 1st hour and 2/2 for the 2nd hour. I dont think the blinds change for $200 buy in vs the $300 buy in. The $1000 rarely, if ever, goes. I believe that they will structure the $1000 for whatever the people want.

The extra traffic this weekend was also because of the MN Poker Tour $1000 buy in tourney on Sunday.

How do the $200 and $300 Survivor games play? Are they your typical 1/2 NL type players? Are there any "regulars" that are making their prime earn from these games?

Also, how are the 6/12 and 8/16 games now compared to 2 or 3 years ago? Are these still the games to play if you are a winning 2/4 online player?

I haven't played in these but my understanding is they are 1/2 for the first hour and 2/2 for the second hour.

Stick to the 6/12. We gamble in the 8/16.

Anybody been there this week? Has it been busier?

Ok. The room appears to be busier. I showed up around 11am on Friday and there were 3 8/16s going. Definitely some new faces, some internet looking kids who I figured would be tough. Didn't really seem that way. I switched between all the games every couple hours and none of the kids seemed all that great.

Grrrrrrrr, I picked a bad time to take a new job that has me out of town a ton and need to spend time with the famn damily when I am home (enjoy and prioritize the family, just miss playing at CP). Oh well, should be able to get out at Oceans11 next weekend.

I remember the days of needed to get in by 11AM on saturday or face on hour plus wait. Oh if I wasnt such a newb back then....

that new jackpot bad beat qualifier has put me on tilt - thinking of stuffing the complaint box every time until it changes back

has to be quads beat by quads now and payout is spread over whole room - ugh
