The $20 an hour win rate for good players usually came from games in which there is a rake+tip being taken from the pot but in survivor that is not the case. I don't have enough hours yet for the results to be statistically significant but so far I think that the game can be beaten for an average of $70 per tourney.

Something like $15 for two hours or $20 for three would be much more sustainable. The game as it is doesn't seem like it will last.
Trying to be conservative here--35 hands per hour at $4/hand rake-$140/h
So $280/2h or >$30/player at 9 player table.

Its not totally unreasonable even if the above is off a little. I would guess the net tips will be lower than for a cash game.

Checked it out tonight.

Beautiful room. Colorful but not overstimulating. Lot's of gabling and drinking at my table. Looks like the survivor tournaments were going in full-force and there was even a call for last seat to a $500 one.

Kinda sad it's not closer, I'd really like to give the freeroll tourney a shot but it's an hour drive for me. I'm going to stick to Running Aces but I do want to give a survivor tourney a shot sometime.

Nits:
No Jameson??? Seriously?
Running Aces has spoiled me with their no posting.
Lo mein was meh. Veggies weren't very fresh and there wasn't enough of them.

Actually, I'd say lack of sinks, but definitely cool!

So I went there yesterday...played 3/6 for about 10 hrs.

Its definitely much improved, but I felt like everyone really hyped it up for what it is =/

And yes, the sinks are awesome.

You'd think they would, maybe they think people will be more curious. More likely whoever was responsible forgot....

I doubt they would allow pics to be taken, security purposes. Could be casing the joint

Bascially a work around for no-limit cash game.

Example

$200 + $30.

Everyone buys in for $200 and gets $200 in tournament chips and plus $30 fee goes to the house.

Tournament is 2 hours long. Blinds are 1/2 for 1st hour, then go up to 2/2 for 2nd hour (to be tournament-like).

Once felted, can re-buy for $200 + $10(?).

At the end of two hours, everyone cashes in with payouts = to the chip amount they have. Essentially two hours of no-limit cash game where the house take is a tournament "fee" vs a rake.

I've not played, but big winner is typically in the $800 range and some folks have been known to re-buy 3-4 times.

Downside is that new players can't join in and that you have to quit a great game at the end time. Also, you have to stick out the two hours. I think the higher dollar amounts may be longer hours.

Played my first 200 survivor today. Two players were allowed to rebuy when they were very low but not yet felted. They are now swiping you in so that you earn for time on your card (this is a definite) and the BBJ can be hit during a survivor (so I heard, need confirmation of this).

I highly doubt this is true..... they aren't dropping a dollar into the jackpot drop, which is a requirement to be eligible.

This on the Canterbury Park website:

SURVIVAL AND SIT 'N' GO PLAYERS

NOW EARN COMPS, WIN JACKPOTS, AND QUALIFY FOR SPECIAL PROMOTIONS WHILE PLAYING BY LOGGING IN ON THEIR MVP CARD AT THE TABLE!

And by the way the new room is really great! Seems like lots more Gamble in everyone...I"m going tonight, if you play 2 hours you get Prime Rib Dinner or Steak Dinner for ten cents....

I was wondering the same thing. probably want to get people in there to check it out. Anyhow, I am going tomorrow and I will try to snap some pics with my cell phone. I am going to play some sit and go's and maybe try that survivor thing out.

I went out to Canterbury today for the first time since the remodel. I was going to take pictures but they would not do the new card room justice. I think the new room is very classy to say the least. You walk in and there is a bunch of table games, you procede forward and you have the board with the pokerroom were the the table games used to be. The cardroom was really busy it felt like a a weekend on a raceday.

Survival is such a loophole for Minnesota having NL action.... I kind of like it. I'll be there tomorrow looking forward to playing a couple games.

Went there last week. The room is amazing! I am making another trip out there tonight. It definitely has that Vegas feel to it.

When I was driving home though, I kind of felt bad that I could never 'experience' the old room again. I know it wasn't perfect, but it just had that dirty, grimy, feel to it. And I kind of liked it. Did anyone else feel this way?

Also, I want to dip my toes into the Survivor, but if I only bring one buy in, am I going to leave unsatisfied?

I kind of miss the old whiteboard signup from their first 5 or 6 years, where the lovely Leesa could scribe a hundred names in a small space.

From the floor plan it looks like they're putting tables against the small entrance to the track area. Is this a decent railing setup? As in, will they draw in casual standers-by? Or is it all walled off?

I started playing there about 6 months before they got the electronic system. I miss the old board and the dealers shouting for service, chips, and the board as well.

Me too, I can't imagine the 50+ name lists on the electronic board.
