I think most of them make more than the average college graduate.

Hey! That's not at all a fair statement. I know of several dealers who are college graduates that choose to deal cards as a living.

Also, I personally find most of the CP dealers to be perfectly competent with regards to their chosen profession... what might have lead you to believe that they are "morons" I do not know.

Hey Folks, new to the forum and will be heading over to MN for about a month this summer. I know most juicy games are prob going on Fri-Sun but approximately:
-how many 15/30 (or 30/60) games are going (during the week) from about noon-7pm?
-how many 15/30 (or 30/60) games are going on Sat/Sun afternoons?
-how many 15/30 (or 30/60) games are going on Sat/Sun evenings?
Many thanks guys

30/60 is almost always only one game. Often it runs as a mixed game half LHE half O8.

15/30 will almost always have one game going, with a must move going during prime hours. Occasionally there will be a must must move.

The 30/60 mix game runs pretty much every day. Lately, the game has been starting between noon-1pm every day, often with a must move that gets started around 3 or 4pm. Maybe once a week the game will start as straight hold'em... it all depends on who starts the game.

Also, you can get the bravo poker live app for android / iphone to see which games are running at Canterbury.

Thinking of giving the 1/2 survival a try tonight. Do I have to full buy the $200 at first or can I half buy to get in? I know rebuys can be half.

Can anyone estimate the # of survival tables they spread on a friday night?

Thanks for the replies Kato and Efficacy, appreciate it

Have to buy in for full to start the game for all survivals. For the 200's you would be buying in for 200+30, assuming it runs for two hours. They generally get more $300 survivals going than the 200's, cuz the rake you pay is only 10% of your buy in for the 300 survivals, as opposed to 15% of your buy in for the 200's

Would anybody be interested in trying to get PLO Survivals going? I talked with the floor about this several weeks ago, and they said that they got these going for a few weeks back in the fall. I would love it if they ran 300+30 PLO Survivals, or even 300+30 HA (with one round of PLO followed by a round of PLH) as I enjoy playing the mixed games but am not rolled to play the 30-60 mix.

I've also talked to some players about this and there seems to be a bit of interest. Hopefully this post can stimulate some interest in the survivals mentioned above.

I would be interested in PLO survivals myself, too. Seeing as ough on Friday night the Bravo app was reporting 3 6-12 O8 games and survival tournaments are eligible for BBJ, we can certainly ask about it. Unless they deleted PLO survivals from their plan of operation.....

It is always 30 minutes of limit hold'em and 30 minutes of limit o8.

Hi all,

I am coming to Minnesota and staying at the downtown Hilton. I was told the only way to get to Canterbury was the free shuttle from downtown to Mystic Lake and then a cab from Mystic Lake to Canterbury. Does anyone have experience with this? How much of a hassle is the cab to and from each casino? Other suggestions welcome.

Thanks

Gross, that'll take over an hour. I'd rent a compact car for 25 bucks a day, personally. You'll pay that in cab fare anyway.

I don't know the answer to how much hassle it is. It's about a ten minute drive.

Good point on parking. Return it to the rental place and pick up a new one the next day, haha.

There are car rental places downtown within a couple blocks of the Hilton that should be able to help you - if not, just get on the light rail to the airport (walk 5 blocks north on Marquette) - car rentals are generally in Terminal 1.

Trust me, that will usually be much cheaper than cab fare.

Rzw has the best answer. Prolly 40 for one day all in vs 50+ one way for cab?

Dunno about the Cities, but I recently saved about $40 a day by renting a car in downtown Seattle instead of at the airport. Some places have high rental car tax at the airport.

Quick TR from a session I had at Canterbury yesterday. Played two of the 300+30 survivor tournaments, which are probably one of the best games in the house when it comes to rake. Played three quite interesting hands.

Hand 1: Blinds are 1-3, stacks are effectively $300 for all parties. Hero is in the HJ with KQ
UTG limps, UTG+1 limps, Hero limps in the HJ, SB completes, and BB checks. Flop comes K97. SB, a solid reg, bets out a pot sized bet of 15, a very interesting bet. BB folds, UTG flats, Hero flats. At this point in the hand I felt like the SB either flopped two pair or even a baby flush, not sure about UTG. Turn comes a Q giving me top two with the 2nd nut FD. SB bets out $40 into a pot of $45, UTG folds, I call with my top two and 2nd nut FD. At this point in the hand I felt there was a decent chance I was ahead, and if I wasn't i figured I had at least 11 outs to win (7 spades + 2K + 2Q). River comes a total blank, think it was a 2. SB thinks for a minute and then checks. Puts me to a decision, is he giving up on the hand with say like an A9x for middle pair + NFD, or does he have a baby flush/two pair/ set that he's planning on c/c with. I decide to check my KQ, as at this point the only hands I can beat are 97, K7, K9, and maybe missed nut spades. I check and UTG shows 77 for a set of 7's. Unlucky that he had such a strong hand there, but happy I only lost $53 on the hand.

Hand 2: Blinds are 2-3, I open QQ UTG for $11. My effective stack is $600. MP flats, Button with an effective stack of $550 flats as well, SB folds, and BB calls. Flop comes out 953. BB checks, I fire $28 into the $46 pot, MP folds, Button calls, and BB folds. We go heads up to the turn, and the turn is a Q, a phenomenal card for my hand if the Button flopped a big hand. I bet $60 into a pot of $102, and the Button raises to $130 without even counting it out. I have some hand history with this guy, and know that he can play a wide assortment of hands, but also hand reads very well. I'm fairly sure he won't put me on QQ or 99, as I would prolly check top set on the flop, so I decided to shove instead of flatting like I would against most players. The reasons why I shoved is (1) shoving would be the only real bet I could put in as a bluff to win the hand (2) didn't think he would ever fold a set of 3's or 5's if he had those hand (3) He knows I am a competent player and am capable of folding AA or KK to his turn raise. After I shove he goes into the tank for a while, and starts asking me if i have a set of 5's. I try not to give away any information, but at this point I think he may have bottom set or some random two pair. He folds facedown after another minute claiming he mucked bottom set, which if he did would have been a fantastic laydown.

Hand 3: Hero is in the BB, and this is the first hand of another 300+30 survivor. Blinds are 1-3, and UTG raises to $9, MP flats, Button calls, and Hero calls with A8 from the BB. Flop comes 442. Hero checks, UTG bets $20, MP folds, Button folds, and Hero flats the $20. At this point in the hand UTG, a solid reg, could have a very wide range of hands, but I like my chances to win the pot. Turn comes a 7. At this point I'm pretty torn about how to proceed with the hand, I don't mind c/r or c/c looking back, but as played a led out for $35. I know it's very difficult for UTG to represent a 4, so I'm leading out with the intention of 3-betting or, calling turn and betting most rivers if UTG raises. After a bit of thought, UTG decided to fold, so he probably had 55 or 66 at best.

Thoughts on my line on this hand? I think check/raising the turn might have been better.

Update for those visiting without transportation.

Called a rental car vendor and could rent a car for the night for 70.00.
Since my friend was willing to drive me home I opted not to rent a car. Instead I took the metro from downtown to mall of America and then got on the free shuttle to mystic lake. They gave me a voucher for 10.00 since it was my first visit to mystic lake. Got to mystic lake and cashed the voucher. Called a cab and paid 20.00 for the cab.

Lesson was pay the 70.00 for a rental car.

All in all a fun time playing two survivor tournaments. Nice place.

Will Canterbury Park spread a 50-100 or even 40-80 game now that the state has passed the increase?
