The "cap limit"" game is honestly bizarre; there seems to be no consensus as to how to play it or even how much money to bring to the table. (There's no buy in maximum.)

Abb, most of the games are very soft, at least up to the 20/40 level. There are very good players there, but there are two or three donkeys per table. If you don't have any at yours, you just got unlucky and a table change will fix that right up. Be observant - the variance in skill is huge. Every table has a few really good players and a few ATMs. You'll soon see who's who but don't assume they're all crappy.

That said, it's honestly the most unpleasant poker room I've ever been in, humid and ugly, ludicrously expensive refreshment - I paid $3 for a coffee I would not have served to someone I hated - and with some terrible dealers and staff (it's not their fault.) The ONLY reason to go is soft opposition and even then, man, it gets sickening quickly. Compared to the CNE, places like Niagara and Brantford are like playing at the Bellagio.

An $8 rake is ludicrously high at 1/2. Again, the opposition is terrible, but you're there to beat people and nothing else.

How is the 20/40 limit holdem this year? Thinking about heading down Saturday late afternoon. Would I be able to get on a table at some point? Any idea how many tables would be running approximately or if a bigger game could start?

If you don't have the free pass for casino VIP players you need to head to the EX by Thursday as Friday is 10 dollars and starting on Saturday the entrance free is a rip off 20 bucks(for nothing).

As the other guy stated before 8 dollars is a very heavy rake for 1/2 100 max per street betting. It's still cheaper than Rama though......

I played this weekend. They had around 2-4 tables of 20/40 hold’em going Saturday and Sunday nights. 3-4 of 20/40 Omaha those night as well. I don’t play the 20/40 hold’em so cant really speak to the action, but it looked good the few times I glanced at the tables.

If you play Omaha, they added a half kill this year (triggers when the pot is 10BB plus). Last year it was just straight 20/40 with no kill, so I’m guessing this is a bit of deference to the old 20/40 half kill Omaha game that recently died at Port Perry. (May it Rest In Peace.)

The action on Omaha is great as always, especially if you get to what I like to call “the feature table.” Last night’s feature table featured a kill pot that was double straddled and capped 7 ways at $150/player, already $1,050 in the pot before any cards were out. Flop and turn were both capped 6 ways. River gets checked through building a $3,200 final pot. A second nut straight that was made on the turn won it. Gotta love the CNE.

And the price of my favorite (or least hated) dish, the chicken stir fry, went up from $9.50 last year to $12.50 this year. Ugh!

Thanks Kaiser Chefs that was the feedback I was seeking. Heading down Monday night for a session. I'm prepared to get ripped with an admission fee - oh well.

That Omaha game sounds crazy. Is that Omaha HIGH? If not a split pot game, that action is C-R-A-Z-Y!!!

Thanks again.

Pretty sure that no casino in Ontario can deal Hi-lo.

If it plays like the GBH game in the old days, bring a seat belt.

Staring to plan a trip or two to the CNE come August. I remember last year there being a "big" game, half LHE and half Omaha high if I recall.

Does anyone remember if it was 50/100 or 100/200?

Thank you.

I think they had both. May have been a 50/100 with half kill too.
I remember one guy telling me he was in game for 20k. I guess that's possible on 50/100 with half kill.

There are no legal regular games in Toronto.

The CNE is an annual Summer fair. The casino (Poker room) starts on July 27 and will end in early September making it live for just over a month. The wait times to play are oppressive. Sometimes as long as 3+ hours.

The only thing you can do in Toronto is travel about 1.5 hours to a city with a casino, Orillia, Niagara Falls and Brantford. Sometimes these poker rooms have waiting times as well.

Toronto is just a terrible place to be a poker player.

I understand that the casino opens this weekend and runs for a couple of weeks before the rest of the fair.

Does anybody know:

1) Is there an entrance fee to access the casino pre-opening of Aug. 16?
2) What the best parking options are nearby (if any) for the pre-opening period?

Thank you.

Last year there was no fee to get into the CNE before the fair started and there was free parking right beside the casino. I suspect it is the same situation.

CNE is pretty soft. The cap on each street makes it fishier.

You can come and lineup for a seat and then spend 4 hours doing stuff at the Ex.. the wait times are that bad.

As for the CNE itself, well I’m an old guy and I remember when the CNE was so much better. It’s too commercialized now. I remember when the food building had cheap food deals and a lot of fun free activities. Now it lives on by reputation.

Once you play for so many hours(4 hours?) you have free parking and a pass for the season.

I wish I knew how to get that..thought that was only given out to other table game players. You can get into the Ex for free when the Ex is on?

I'm believe so if you go to casino before actual Ex opens a few weeks later. I think that's what I did last year.

The playing requirement used to be 3 hours of play, maybe they raised it. The pass is also available when the EX is on too, but you will need to pay an entrance fee(unless you go on a free time). In the past the pass would be mailed out to you if you played the previous year.
