Are there any reasonably priced hotel/motels near casinos with Holdem here, or sublets/month-to-month rentals?

What happens to Cowboys during the Stampede? Is the action insane or does the casino shut down during it?

The action is insane, I would never go to another casino during Stampede. It's just more drunks and people having a good time

The action sucks, I wouldn't suggest coming till after stampede.

Are you guys finding any of the games to be better than the others? I'm playing pretty much only at Cowboys right now, since it's the closest. I've played GE for 1/2 as well and the game seems pretty much the same, but you can buy in for more at GE.

What's the best place for 1/2 PLO?

I think you can achieve higher hourlys at grey and deerfoot over Cowboys for 1/2 because of the button straddle. Almost everyhand is straddled and can buy in for more at eagle.

1/2 plo no idea don't play plo so don't really pay attention to what games are running

Does anywhere run 1/2 PLO besides eagle ?

side note anyone happen to know how many runners the typical 'dailies' mtts get at eagle / cash casino? (only ones i could find schedules for online)

I think Deerfoot has a 1/2 PLO game, I'm still just playing NL right now. Just go to Cowboys and play 25-50-100

I would just call the poker room and ask how many runners they usually get, it's probably around 40. You can use pokeratlas to find the tournament schedules

Thanks , I want to get into the PLO games I hear they are pretty good but low bankroll so probably stick to some 1/2 NL for awhile

Would like some help from you locals to this area. I am the new ambassador for an small but growing online poker site, and they wish to send me on some tours of the world to engage with local players and generate new customers. Right now, the owner would like to try and get more Canadian players on the site. We have been very successful so far with generating new players through poker clubs. Not the kind of public poker rooms that are usually discussed in this thread, but private clubs where groups of friends get together to play tournaments and cash games. The kind of clubs that often run competitions to send 1 or more of their members to the WSOP.

If you are in such a club, please reach out to me here by PM, by messaging me on my website (www.FossilManPoker.com/contact.html), by hitting me up on twitter (@FossilMan), or by posting in this thread (least preferred method). We would love to learn more about your club, and see if we can arrange for me to visit and play with your group for a day. We might also be able to arrange some of my FossilMan Poker Training as part of the visit.

Even if not in this area, if you are in or know about a club that might be interested, I'd appreciate it if you would provide me with the info.

Thanks for reading this post, and looking forward to visiting your club!

Cheers, Greg Raymer (FossilMan)

Should threads like this (and Valencia) be pushed to the 'new' venue/community area? Never really seen threads like these do very well ... GL

Poker in BC is dead. Calgary has 2 casinos with good cash games and great mtts
and another that has good tourney series. I think Edmonton has a couple as well

b.c had it all with great games but raked too much and had so many rules to make you miserable that poker is dying there.

Games in Vancouver are incredibly unfriendly to rec's as well.

I've seen just about every possible example of reg favoring action on the part of the staff:

sitting on top of the waitlist for ever while watching multiple regs come in and get sat.

open targeting of new players to the point where in the $1/$2 plo at Edgewater, (which played much bigger than that,) in over two hours literally no single hand of any kind went as far as the turn if I, the new guy, wasn't in it;

listening while a guy explains in great detail (at the tournament table, during play, after calling off with trash, and hitting a miracle,) how he and his buddy's rig tournaments by team playing and getting all-in against each other so one of them will double up and go forward with a big stack. (He was more concerned with us thinking he was a donk than he was with admitting to cheating. I looked at the Dealer and he just shrugged. When I talked to the Floor about it later his attitude was basically "so what, what do you expect me to do about it.")

Pretty much any way you can think of to drive rec's away from the game, I've seen it or experienced it in the Poker rooms here.
