I'm going out west next summer and looking to make a small tourney circuit for myself. I plan on being in Calgary on a Tues-Sat. Looking to play in the evenings at least 3 days of the week. Any suggestions for best tourneys on these days?

Haven't been down to Cowboys since they bought out Stampede. I assume it would be relatively the same? Pretty lame how they bought it out though.

Best casino for tourneys is Grey Eagle. They have 3 per day. Once a month they have a big one with first place paying at least $10,000. Nice room and friendly staff.

Good luck.

deerfoot or elbow or abs calgary for those looking to be real money. grey eagle has some serious 1/2 action, both hold'em and plo. elbow also has tons of limit games, including 20/40 hold'em (can sometimes get some guys to play overs). While in Calgary I recommend the Mariott downtown and Kinjo on McLeod trail. Yo-soy!

Which casino now a days has the most 1-2nl tables running?

And ive noticed Calgarys more of a PLO city lol, how is the competition at PLO? Im decent at PLO but would put a lot of work in my game if it really is that profitible here.

As for rake? How is it in Calgary vs Montreal ?

Sorry for the questions but was just wondering, moved here in November from Montreal. Played a a fair amount live in Montreal and online here but havent had any time to check out the rooms yet!

Thanks

Rake is much better than Montreal area, it's mostly 10% up to 5$ + 1$ jackpot drop in Alberta+Vancouver area. In Montreal its 10% up to 12$ 1-2 or 15$ at 2-5 + Jackpot drop, so it's a real ripoff.

Hey guys, I've just relocated to Calgary and I'm looking for some local PLO games. Anyone have an idea where they're at and what limits? Also which games are the juiciest? Where's the oil money at?

They're juicy all over the city honestly. Pretty much everyone is braindead when it comes to poker lol.

PLO wise I think Grey Eagle is your best bet for day in, day out action. 1/2 pretty much every day, 2/5 on the regular, and bigger games often as well. Have seen a 10/25/50 PLO game run at the Eagle on weekends.

+1 to all of this

Have seen plo fairly often at abs but abs is a dump. Can buy in for $500 in 1/2 games tho which is nice.

Yes this place is not even from planet earth! They play poker like in 2003 era! It's incredible the easiest casino I have ever played! Even better than Vegas for Wsop , Super Bowl , NCAA newyears! Last time I was there I walked by the bank machine in the poker room and there was 100$ just in the machine. Does not get any easier than that! But seriously though the night club beside the poker room, it's all true

played at grey eagle last week and it was a really soft game. ran like ass though and ended up slightly down instead of like 1500 up (lost a 1500 pot to a double gutter all in on a rainbow turn with top 3 pair). wouldn't mind going back but the wife doesn't approve of my degeneracy lol.

have to say though, live games are slooooow.

Cowboys has been running 5/10 half NL/PLO during Stampede, with a 25/25 game opening up sometimes as well.

Not sure if it's because the city needs the morale boost after the flooding, but it's certainly crazy busy there.

Cowboys was packed all week, but the weekday games weren't necessarily better than usual. I think all the usual regs played longer hours than usual + some online guys came out to play more because its Stampede. I played in several games that definitely felt nittier than the norm. That being said, there were lots of drunk cowboys in action that made the games very much worth it, and I had a solid week profit wise. Hope other 2p2ers that played booked a quality week too at the tables.

Hey all,

I'm new to the forum as well as new to Calgary. I'm looking to meet some locals who like to talk poker and obv play. I like cash mostly. A fan of limit and mix games, but I play no limit of course and working on PLO. Tournaments are fun too.

Anyway. If any of you all play on a reg basis and are looking to add someone to your circle, fire me a message.

Stampede has been quite good to me in the past couple of years, the amount of dick-wagging that goes on at the table between the crowd that is out for Stampede is ridiculous. Table talk almost exclusively consists of people talking about the businesses they own or how much they haul in working on rigs (at least at 1/2 where people are calling for chips constantly while drinking more and more). I have a few friends that play the bigger games and said that they still remained mostly full of regs.

I was never too fond of the cash casino. Never felt like they cared about the customers as much as themselves. So I skip going there when in Calgary.
