Has anyone been to Calgary Casino for the re-opening of their poker room?

Thought I would point out there has been another rake increase and seems like people don't even realize it, Casino's in Calgary are now raking preflop as well.

Beat the rake, get a consistent 5/10 NLHE running.

Hey guys,

I'm from Europe but have been to the US a lot in the past to grind out some cash game. I'm looking for something outside the US where it's possible to put in some volume daily and where the traffic is decent. I mainly play 2/5, 5/10 nl and 5/5 plo. Which games are normally running daily? How's the rake there compared to other places? Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

It’s a shame. At least push to get 6+(short deck) hold em.

You have fullring plo games that run, gross.

There seems to be at least 1 1/2/5 PLO happening at Cowboy's and a lot of players have moved to Casino Calgary. It might only be 1 game, but there should always be a game going at one of the 2. As for NL, the new (re-opened) casino has 1/2 with a button straddle so about 1/2 or more of the hands are basically 2/5 and Grey Eagle has the same but haven't played there in quite awhile, so I'm not sure about the amount of games. And they have a couple big tournament series where there is some bigger action.

As far as Canada goes, Calgary is top 3 for sure. Playground in Montreal is really nice, but they take an insane rake, but you get "free" food and drinks.

insane rakes mean you have to have plenty of really bad players giving money away to make it worth playing. then its okay and quit as soon as they leave.

How are games in Calgary during the summer in general?

Rake is 7+1?

Do any casinos run 1-2 consistently? I.e 16+ hours per day

Extremely soft, rake depends on what casino, standard is $5+1 10% but also pre flop rake. Think deerfoot is the only one with an extra $1 promo but could be wrong.
Games run basically 24/7 for 1/2nl

if you can be there from Jul 6-15 (during the Stampede), if you like money, you should be playing poker every one of those days. unless you like partying more, in which case, .. (i usually flip flopped between the two)

It’s live poker, games are soft 364 days of the year.

Live poker. Games are always good, stampede = more people drinking with a mix of reg fishes. Glgl

The games are great. The regs are still clueless fish and think that limping every hand makes them aggressive monsters. Volume is better, like any live game

yep the action was amazing

Casino Calgary has all the action currently although no poker player with any integrity would play there after the Bad Beat scandal a few years ago.

Casino Calgary wanted to close its poker room but had $120,000 in BBJ to get rid of first. Instead of waiting for them to go, they gave the money away as prizes for full houses and higher. Here in Alberta, BBJs are capped at $20k. They filled tables with regulars, had a dealer sit (on their day off) on a table and dealt to family only, players checking down hands for $2, etc.

Needless to say, lists were massive but those in tight with housemen got seated while others waited regardless of where they were.

The BBJ at ABS is $50k and Deerfoot is the same or uncapped.

Also, is the Grey Eagle room still closed or has it reopened?

ABS aka Casino Calgary generally has all the PLO in the city. I’m surprised that Cowboys didn’t have a game on Saturday afternoon considering there were 5 going when I left at 3 am last week.

Grey Eagle is open again. Haven’t seen the room yet to pass judgment.
