Anyone end up playing the $85 last night?

Brag: I came back from 3BB second-short-stack going in to final table to win. $1575 ship it!
Var: Short stack going in to FT came 3rd.
Moral: Accumulation is for wimps.

Yeah I know exactly who your talking about - Auntie's play pretty much describes most burswood limit players.. the burswood limit tables are always great value

I didn't get a chance to play yesterday. What is the starting chips and structure like? Anyone playing the 220 on Sunday?

I noticed on the burswoodpoker site that it mentions a $2500 buy-in western classic main event coming soon, does anyone know anything about this??

A few regs made it deep, but I don't know a lot of names. I sat down with Lynne (the Sapphire champ) to my right, and I'd watched her a fair bit in the Sapphire, so I made it my mission to take her out. Bullied back at her, and after about 3 hours, finally busted her when her bluff ran in to my JJ.

$4k starting stacks. It got a bit tight towards the end — when we got to FT, average chip stack was less than 6BB, and at final two, all the chips were on the other table. They were still playing poker while everyone at my table was pushbotting.

I'm considering the 220, but don't want to lose everything I made last night in more tournament entries
And I'm worried for my record, too: 3 wins and 1 cash finish from 4 Burswood tournament starts (~2600% ROI).

Burswood ran the Western Classic last year, too, but I wasn't around for it. It'll probably be a slightly smaller and stronger field than the Sapphire — most of Perth's big tournament players were in Vegas for that one — but still not too tough. I'll try to sat in, but won't post $2500.

Have any of you ever been down at noon for the SnGs they advertise on the website? Do they ever run?

The SnG's run very rarely (if at all) - I have only ever seen a list for them when tournaments are on - and even then they never get started. I heard the structure is very fast as you would expect.

The Western Classic last year was a a 1k buy-in so will be interested to see what kind of prize pool is generated and players turn out for a 2.5k.

Congrats on your win - I never seem to make it past 2nd place in the Burswood tournaments

The big buy in should be good for the Western Classic as long as there is a lot of ways to win a seat through a satellite.

I heard there is going to be a heads up tournament too which will be fun.

the play at burswood is terrible. i'd say about equivalent to $0.01/$0.02 online. funny thing is some guy was telling a story about playing at crown and how bad it was. "they have no idea how to play poker out in melbourne" crown is bad, but nowhere near as terrible as perth.

Hey guys, first every post oand I am a regular Burswood player.

The play isnt great, that is a given. One hand in particular from last night on the 2/3 (Im a uni student and just play 2/3). Anyway, im relatively new to the table, know a few players. Unknown, though very arrogant young guy makes it 8 total from UTG. two calls to me OTB, I have 10's, bump it up to 25. He shoves for about 70 total. Im on about 90 and cover him. I call and he confidently turns over 2's... 2's FFS... And of course he turns his set...

Iv been going to Burswood for about 6 months now, would be up a fair bit in the long run. Have never had any luck in the tournaments, first one a Sapphire $60 that I ran 50/100, running into the bullets 3 times...

Second 56/70 that ended more or less on one hand. Blinds are 75/150, im on about 5500, villian about 5000. He raises from UTG+1 to 600, folds to me on the button, I have red 10's and call. Flop is 3510 He bets 1000 and I insta shove... He tanks, eventually calls with kings, no spade and hits his two outer...

Third tournament also useless, about 58/100.

Main thing is a lot of the APL (Australian Poker League) players play these tournaments. I work for these guys organising free poker tournaments in pubs around the city and it is very hard at times to focus on your game, when every knows you, and sticks the boot in when you make a bad call, fold etc...

I agree - Burswood is like a 1c/2c online game - the quality play in the NL and Limit games is terrible. The 10/20 limit game is great value (if you can take the occasional beat) with most players getting to the flop no matter the pre flop action. The tournaments are great value too with the same quality of play.

The burswood website posted the schedule for the upcoming western classic, finishing with a $2500 3 day main event - should be quite a good tournament structure. I spoke to some of the dealers at burswood who mentioned they may introduce antes into the tournament.

So is there anyway to buy in for 100BB for a reasonable amount?
I play 100nl online, haven't played much bnm, but i imagine it shouldn't be too bad, with some adjustments. Rather not play short stack strategy though

Is the limit play that bad at all times, or just evenings? What are the best days to play?
Burswood Casino (Perth, WA) Quote

The limit games play bad all the time. The games are generally very loose passive, with many callers pre flop with marginal holdings and calling any draw or pair to the river. For a 10/20 game it can be very profitable. The weekend can have better games with even worse play and maniacs.

What's Burswood Poker looking like now - Rake, stakes, etc? Didn't they do some renovations?

Might be heading up their next week

I had a peek in there on NYE and it looked quite nice, but I didn't have time to play. My one concern is it's not as accessible as before and this may not look as enticing to the fish - you have to go past the sign-up desk to get in there and there's no rails and hence no spectators so it could be a bit intimidating to a newbie.

I also noticed the 2/3 game now had min $100 and max $200 buy-in; it was a flat $100 last time I played, but that was a while ago. I hated this as it meant you were all-in on the flop (if not before) until you could double-up.

What's the rake like?
Burswood Casino (Perth, WA) Quote

The rake at Burswood is fairly expensive. I believe for 2/3NL it is 10% at $8 and 5/5NL and 10/20 Limit 5% capped at $20.

The website is very vague about the games and limits they spread.

From what I've got from you guys, looks like they spread;

2/3 NL with 10% rake capped at $8 bucks. - New min $100; Max 200 Buy In.
5/5 NL with no rake <$50, then 5 bucks per $100 to max $20 rake (@>$350). Not sure about buy ins for this game. <<Info???>>

5-10 Limit - Not positive on rake, Buy In not so important.

All these games being Hold'em.... is this about right? How many tables/game selection ability?

Do they spread bigger games? 5-10 NL? 10-20 Limit? Different games? I'm flyin in beginning of Feb for 2 weeks to visit a friend. They're still in school, so I'm sure i'll be heading to the 'Burswood' during the day quite often.

I know the Australian $$ has been whacked compared to the USD, what's the cost of living there like? What would standard rent for a reasonable 1 bedroom apt be in Perth? what about a student house sublet?

I've never been further than the Caribbean, and I feel once I'm there I'm gonna have trouble coming back for a while. Especially if I can find reasonable places to live.

Thanks for any info guys.
