doesn't this just sound standard? i can understand why the casino would want lower buy-ins, more action more gamble, but the players?

I agree with you! The deeper the better but unfortunately i dont make the rules. I just harass the suits about changes and maybe eventually they will come in. I would for starters increase the min buy-in from 50 to at least 100 and the max to 600 so we're 200bb's deep if we choose to be.

It doesnt really make a difference to the cas as the commission cap isnt exactly hard to reach anyway. If anything it will create more action as implied adds will be greater (provided other players have stacks as well) so more speculative hands can be played from late position etc....

Ash, i think you are one of the select few burswood players who actually know what "effective stacks" means!

the casino doesnt gain from $500 pots anymore then a $120 pot, so they have no incentive to let us play deeper in that regard. If they change the BIs to a deeper game then they lose a lot more weekend warriors then gain in players who are tipped over the edge to begin playing.

Ty for the compliment btw, even if its a bit of a backhander being a 'smart' burswood reg

went to burswood on thursday night and was met with some pretty startling news...

there were several poster type things around showing new games that were going to be spread (not sure if they are going to replace the existing ones or just be additional extras)

It wasn't very clear, but I got the impression that;

a) rake at 2/3 NLHE is increasing to 10% capped at $15 (same 10%, cap used to be $12)
b) 2/3 NLHE is going to be a $100 flat buy-in (no more no less, it is currently $50-$200)
c) new game being introduced, 2/5 NLHE. rake structure 10% capped at $15, buy-ins ranging from $50-$200 (LOLOLOLOL)

live straddling and several rule changes were implemented about 2 weeks ago also, none of these were widely publicized, and it seems to have led to a lot of confusion for players and dealers alike.

5/5 NLHE seems pretty dead, although a reg was telling me that it had been getting up a few times a week and the games were OK. These games seemed to bubble before midnight though.

There was 10/20 fixed limit omaha high running when I went, which apparently had been running several nights that week. game quality was good.

so yeah. deb (poker room manager) seems to be screwing up the whole room pretty badly... doubt i'll be playing there much at all anymore

wow that is really screwed up. 2/5 with 200 at 15$ capped rake??? these changes are going to kill the room

10/20 fixed limit omaha is always good value and has been running often lately

buying in for 10bb is funnier at 2/5.

And yes, these are replacement games. 2/3 as it exists will be gone by monday

Wow this just tops burswoods ******ed move factor.

Anyone think can get numbers for a 5/10 live home game? $5 ea to charity. I'd be interested.

Yeah, all well and good to have a 5/10 homegame, until the people at the bottom end of that food chain have enough of being in the bottom 30% of players in the game and stay away, and therefore the game falls apart with no dead money in it.

It is the exact same reason the smaller online sites don't do as well even with lower rake compared to Stars or Tilt (pre Black Friday) due to the marketing of the site and various advertising and encouragements to play that dont involved mass volume and rakeback.

Heck, its why 5/5 under its current incarnation went from half a dozen table a night to 1 at best when 2/3 became effectively uncapped in the number of tables operating.

Yeah this has made the live game at Burswood not worth playing! I havent been there since i heard about the new jokes, sorry rules, coming in.

Playing so short massively reduces the edge of post flop decisions making. I guess it takes away my distraction from online play.....

FWIW i used to run a decent deep stack home game.......it got to a stage where it was just players who knew what they were doing and no fish so we havent run it in a while. Maybe i'll get it going again???

anybody know how burswood's going since the new rules came in? i went there a few weeks ago and was surprised to say the least at the complete **** up they have made with these 33 or 40 bb buy ins. The place was already half empty (on a friday night) with a lot of the regs missing, and my guess is it was going to get worse

have they changed any of the rules back yet?

It's pretty much taken poker 10 steps back. Everytime ive been there in the last month theres only been 4-6 tables running and not much of a waiting list. A lot of the regs were nowhere to be seen. Time will tell whether they killed it or not, but the room wasnt massively profitable for the casino before so with the reduction in players frequenting the poker room it could be interesting. They might finally move it back to the main floor which would encourage more drunk fish to play.

They have the dealers, its just more profitable to have those dealers sitting at a blackjack or roulette table with only 2 people playing than it is to open another poker table unless there is a big list
