Hello,

I like fitness, tennis, golf, drinking, movies and just chillin a little bit
So if you wannne grab a beer of play some tennis/go to the gym let me know!

Was just in Budapest for 2 weeks and found a little free time and headed over to Duna Poker Center which is super convenient to the metro. It's in the mall on the 1st floor (2nd floor if you're American) at the far end from where you enter if you came off the metro. There's a tournament room on one side and cash game room on the other. I think cash games start at 2pm daily.
ots
When I entered they asked me to register and took some passport info and signed a form saying I wasn't a government official and was playing just for myself. I was going to play 100/200 HUF but there was a list so I sat immediately in the 50/100 HUF game (like $0.40/$0.80). Buy-in was 10,000 - 50,000 so it plays pretty deep. There was tons of straddling UTG and on the B. Plenty of big pots too 20K wasn't super rare.

Rake was pretty big. I don't think it was exactly 10% uncapped - they had a chart that they used to look up the rake but I did see as much as 1500 HUF dropped from 1 hand.

Players were all chatting in Hungarian and it was a bit odd for me to try to track bet sizes since so often it was a verbal bet and an oversized chip but dealers were all able to give the amounts in English. We played with 50/100/500/1000 and 5000 chips. Felt vaguely tournament like in that regard.

Players didn't toke the dealer every hand but would toss 100-500 HUF after a big pot. They had drinks and food available for purchase with some lovely servers. You pay even for waters.

I was insanely card dead and ended up losing 14K of my 20K buyin in about 3 hours. Had a good enough time though and got both a 50 and 100 HUF chip to add to my collection. I normally keep a $1 chip and couldn't decide which was closer but for roughly $0.60 I figured I could afford both.

Oh the biggest game they ran here was 500/500. They have a website which shows live games but not wait lists. It's all in Hungarian but obvious enough.

Anyone have any more information on poker in Budapest?

I’m going to be there briefly in April, but looks like I’m going to have some time to hopefully play if things work out

Will be moving to Budapest in mid-July for 3 months. 27 years old, American, been mostly out in Asia for last decade, self-employed and play cards on the side, so just here to have fun, meet like-minded people, drink beer, etc... for a few months. Know absolutely 0 people in Budapest, so give me a shout if you'd like to grab a beer, coffee, etc...

I have never played in Budapest, but I will be there in two weeks and looks like I will first check out the Duna poker room.
Boris I am up for a beer or two if you are still available, maybe you can take me to some good poker games if you've found any.

have a lawyer i and some other poker players used here. He charges ~100euro and has a 100% success rate at getting you the address card/residence permit.

Might be up to meet for a beer this week and give you the lowdown. I've unfortunately aged out of most hardcore degeneracy, but can definitely point you in the right direction.

Hi,

I potentially wish to come and live in Budapest

Are there players who live in Hungary to say how the tax system actually works?

I feel like most of them are not reporting anything and have never had a problem.

Are there tax controls in Hungary related to poker?

Thank you in advance

Is this a fact? I was there in February 2024 and at least then there was a cap. Ridiculously high but still it existed.

100 / 100 HUF rake 10% cap 12000 (120 BB)
100 / 200 HUF rake 7% cap 12000 (60 BB)
500 / 500 HUF rake 5% cap 12000 (24 BB)
