To put this in relative terms to the US via average personal incomes, that would be ~USD 5.88/5.88 for the average Hungarian. Kinda high actually given what people make there.

that's maybe a good stakes for hungarian guys but for a french players it's low,
and do you go for 2.27 until 5.88 that's seems the more interesting ..

I'd like to respond to this post, but it doesn't make sense in English. Shoot me a PM so we can determine what you're trying to say. (BTW I speak only English and a smattering of Hungarian so I am not making fun; I really have no idea what you're trying to say.)

i'm not going to send you an mp, i 'm gonna rewrite my message.

It's weird i write so bad english.

You do a change in hungarian currency and you 500 forints worth 5.88 $.

I'm wonder how can you find this result .

Second, for me i live in France, i was just in Budapest for vacation so when you say 500 forint worth 5.88, it doesn't make any sense to me.

For me 500 forint worth 500 forint, the cost of life for me is the cost of a french life, cause like i say, i was in Budapest for holidays.

In order to determine the equivalent of blinds for Hungarians compared to here in the United States, I did a simple ratio of the Hungarian blinds to the average Hungarian annual wage being equal to a ratio of our unknown to the average US annual wage. The result of that calculation gave the unknown as ~$5.88.

You could do the same for France by using the French average wage. That would give you a better idea of what the blinds really feel like to a Hungarian living on Hungarian wages.

Univerzum runs 2/2Eur cash games almost every day, Tropicana has higher but it runs very rarely, altough there will be a 500Eur (+reentry) tourney today so I suppose they'll have good cash action

200nl live? Never played live but today I went to that Universum place and the games running were lol. They had 50/50 PLO and 100/200 Omaha. That's like .20/.20 USD PLO.

How were the games and what was the rake? And do you mean that the 100/200 game was limit?

Yes, the rake at Universum? Anyone?

I never played there my first stay, I'm considering moving back. I remember I called them once and asked about the rake, and thought it was something ridiculous, but have forgotten by now. I've gone through all the threads here and can't find any info.

The info on the Cash games from their site:

Open every day from 14:00 to next day 12:00
Cash game started 14:00

Cash game types:

Texas Hold'em and Omaha

blinds and buyins ( Hungarian Forint )

50/50 min buyin 3000 max 15.000 or maximum stack on table*
100/100 mn buyin 10.000, max 30.000 or maximum stack on table
100/200 min buyin 10.000, max 50.000
500/500 min buyin 50.000, max 100.000

I couldn't find anything about the rake. Regarding the stakes, if you're living in Budapest, and not just passing through as a visitor, a 500/500 NL game is pretty enormous given the ridiculously cheap cost of living in Budapest. First time I was there I was living, all expenses (-travel) included, on something like 600€ (180,000 HUF)/ month.

Hi guys,

I'm going to be in Budapest from the 6th to 14th of July 2015, any update on the state of tournies and cash games/rake what to expect etc would be appreciated. Is it dying off or thriving and is there any online group of English speaking people with info on these games?

At the moment i'm thinking of getting a hotel near this Universum place I'll be playing mostly for fun in the first 3 nights 6th July-8th July so I don't mind if the games are tiny because of the locals standard of living but knowing there will definitely be a game on and its safe and friendly for English only speaker would be a bonus.

Cheers

Unless you're main purpose of visiting is to play poker don't get a hotel near Universum, it's just not really in the vicinity of the city center and the places interesting as a visitor/tourist. You could also check out the Cotton Club, which is in what I consider to be the central part of the city.

As for safety, I'm not sure whether you mean the game or the location. I can't really speak to either as I never actually played there, in general Budapest is safe. Parts of the 8th district (farther from the border with the 7th) are sketchy and should probably be avoided. Watch out for pickpockets generally. Use common sense.

You can call in advance and ask about the rake, there will be someone who speaks english, though it helps to know a few words of hungarian, like "good evening, do you speak english?"

The internet seems to think that Cotton Club is closed. How recent is your information?

Where did you see that? My info is dated, it could very well be closed, but I was on their website a few weeks ago and it seemed like the poker room was still running.

I just googled this morning when I saw your post. I'm going to be there in a couple weeks so I appreciate your info. Would you mind linking the website? Not sure if I'll make it out to play, but if I do I'll obviously report back here.

Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/cottonpokerclub

It looks like it's still open, but then again they haven't posted on their facebook in a few months, so who knows. I would just call and ask if you want to know for sure.

Has anyone ordered something like a laptop and monitor online for delivery in Budapest? Not sure if I should expect this to work as smoothly as in Western Europe or if it's more trouble than its worth compared to buying locally.

Not really sure as I never ordered a laptop online there but I did order a used phone from Canada and had to pay like $50 duty on it and waited 2 months for it to clear customs. There is lots of places that sell laptops but they are pretty expensive there...

Regarding living in Budapest there is a bunch of expats still there (i'm gone now) but there is a facebook group for Poker players living there and a skype group for people living there...

Can anyone give an update about the live poker scene in budapest ?

Seems like universum has changed locations?!? Do they still have their cash games running? Info on the rake?

I tried calling but the line was dead, not sure if the problem is on my end or theirs.
