as for the new guy. well, as soon as I sat down, a guy to my left got up and the seat was empty for a while, then the new guy showed up and waited two hands (or so) to post the BB. yes, he could have posted. yes, he could have not showed up in the first place. hard to say. But he was taken care of. I know some gave more than others but he made out quite well for literally doing nothing.

i came down to AC on a whim with my friend. I got a chance to play in the 4-8 HOSE game (first time playing stud or studH/L) for about an hr or two before it broke. Fun game and I wish it the best of luck. I think i met Stan, but I didn't introduce myself at the table (next time). Afterwards, I was looking for another limit game but decided on to just sit in this 1/2 NL for my last hr and 15 min later... BOOM... BBJ. It took a couple hrs to get the $. Took the bundles and hit the craps table for an hr and then made the drive back to philly.

Great night and looking forward to moving up limits.

I was playing 4-8 HOSE until about 5:30. When were you playing? I had considered playing some 1/2 after quitting the game, but had to leave. Another near miss on a BBJ but that's to be expected.

The 4-8 was a fun game and I'll be back perhaps next week. Certainly by the following Sat. What time did it run until and did they keep Stud H/L w/o a qualifier in the mix?

The game ran until about 11:30. We kept in the Stud H/L w/o a qualifier, though I think it's a worse game than Stud Eight or Better. (We also realized the high card was supposed to be the bring-in for the no qualifier game, which meant we'd been doing it wrong for a couple of hours...oops.)

I was there from around 1-3 today hoping to get another 4-8 HOSE game started, but there were only 2 names on the list. I'd love to play more than just Sat, maybe also Fri night and Sun.

Hey Stan,

We don't know each other but my friend has talked to you on 2p2 before and he recommended that I talk to you about my situation. I was planning on coming down to the Borgata to play some 5-10 NL but...(PM you the rest of situation)

Any idea how many you're expecting for the LHE tournament on Wednesday? Also how long you expect it to take. I'm thinking of coming down for it but I'd rather not be there all night.

I've been covering the events at the Borgata on their blog. As far as participation, the fields have been strong. Expect a good crowd. Most of the players that have been here expect to play.

As far as how long it will go, you should expect it to go late. The O/E tourney was a limit tourney and that ran til 3am. Heads up went for 40 minutes though.

Wouldn't an O/8 tournament take a lot longer because of split pots though? People not getting knocked out as quickly?

Not really. What really determines the length of a tourney is the level structure. As the blinds increase the average chipstack decreases (as measured in bets ldo). The smaller the average chipstack the quicker people bust out (which also raises the average chipstack since the chips are distributed among fewer players).

The split pots may mean people can survive allins more easily but the limited chip supply ensures that they (or the person they sucked out on) is right back in that situation.

I was talking to my friend about the Borgata Guarantee Tournaments. His point was that more Casinos should run them as Borgata has worded the rules that although they call it a Guarantee, if they have less than the needed players, they are not legally obligated to put up the difference for the prize pool.

I myself think this is insanity as the negative backlash that would ensue if Borgata didn't match the difference would be great. (not that they ever fall short) Can anyone clarify?

What exactly then, are they legally obligated to do?

I would assume that if Borgata calls it a Guarantee, than the money is guaranteed. I'm sure Stan will clarify.

The BOrgata has never backed down from any of our guaranteed tournaments. We have on a few occasions added money to the prize pools to make food on the guarantee. It's not a gaurantee if you don't! we added over $50,000 to our $5million guarantee last september. We have added money to a few Friday guaranteed tournaments. We have never called off a guaranteed tournamet prior to start because of bad weather. We once had four inches of snow on the ground and we didn't cancell the guarantee. This is why the Borgata tournaments are strong. We don't play games with people. Unlike the other casino that cancelled several guaranteed tournaments to give the guarantee a bad name. BORGATA WILL NOT BACK DOWN FROM A GUARANTEED TOURNAMENT!

Loophole!

Seriously though, I would think the guarantee would have to be missed by a LOT of money before it would even become a good idea to cancel. Even then it would seem like only a little short term gain for a casino and a lot of long term pain.

I would like to see this rule! doesn't exsist. This was a Trop rule when they ran the Tuesday $10k Guaranteed first place (with 100) entries.

Which casinos have put the Guarantee out there and have cancelled or reneged?

You think the Ruler of the east is going to bad mouth his competition? Much too classy of a guy. If I had to guess though, I would say the Trop. Possibly Showboat. I can't think of any other Casinos that had guaranteed Tournaments

If I had to guess, I would say Tropicana. Although, they used to have fine print that stated the guarantee was only valid if they had 100 registrations (which was enough to meet the guaranteed amount).

Showboat is the other room that has guaranteed tournaments, but those are only for "The Poker Tournament" that they have every few months and I believe they have covered the guarantee every time.

Stan,

Another great weekend at the Borgata! Plenty of action and great cash game selection.

One thing you might wanna check on to improve play. This weekend many times I was at tables that suffered due to slow fills. On four different occasions I bought white chips from another table to help my dealer, who didn't have any white and was forced to wait so bbj could be funded. Floor and dealers were frequently muttering that the fills were taking too long, and that they don't have "enough people working in there", setting them up. As summer heats up, perhaps the cage needs to staff up?

I was at the borg yesterday. Put my name on 1/2 plo and 4/8 hose and played 1/2 while waited for fill. Unfortunately it took forever to get the 1/2 game going started with 6 and then died when 2 busted out.

On a side note, what is with carding so much? I got carded 4 times and my friend, kid you not, got carded 8 times in about a 5 hour span. We got carded when we moved from the 1/2 nl game to the plo game and then about 15 minutes into the game a floor came over and carded both of us again, quite annoying.

Borgata got busted not to long ago for underage gambling. Wrote a nice check to the NJCCC to pay the fine.

I believe they have a wristband or stamp you can request so they you are not carded every five minutes.

Because no one wants to get fired. I believe there are some hefty fines for allowing a minor to gamble, and if the reason for is because someone forgot to card, heads will roll for that.
