Query: is the line on the table a betting line or does forward motion still apply? I've been told contradictory things (thankfully it is never really an issue).

Also why do we need a row of red in the rack @ 40? It is never used as any red given in change is invariably given back (for change). One stack would be plenty and it would allow for more whites which would mean fewer fills.

I am going to give you the rule that Jerry and I wrote.

(1) The betting line means exactly that it's a betting line.
(2) Chips that are pushed onto or over the betting line (is a bet).
Pushed means that the chips are touching the felt.
(3) Chips in the hand that is used in forward motion toward and may have crossed the line (is a bet).
In the hand means that the chips are airborne. Because the chips are not touching the felt, you may not be able to tell if the chips actually crossed the betting line. Thus, it is a bet.

Pardon me but I'm confused.

If a player picks up a chip stack consisting of 15 chips, keeps them in his hand as he chop cuts 5 chips over the betting line, and pulls back the remaining 10 chips, would he be bound to bet the other 10 chips if his opponent called for a floor ruling? I see some players angle this move in MTTs occasionally and I'm curious as to how much of a gray area it is.

Thanks.

It's not gray at all. Stan's saying that the forward motion with 15 chips in a player's hand obligates that player to bet (or call if there's a bet to him). The rule says nothing about the amount (ie. there's no rule the player has to bet ALL of the chips in their hand).

Ahhh OK. Gray in my head was all. tyvm jjshabado

I do think some players abuse the "pick up a stack and bet 1 or 2 chips" routine as an angle, but I don't have any reasonable suggestions on how to deal with it procedure wise.

Props to Stan's attention to this thread too.

I just sit there, with no change to my expression, until they release their bet or call or raise past the betting line. Then I make my decision.

I would assume that I am much older than you guys talking about the forward motion. I remember the good ole days when poker managers only had to remember limit rules. In a way they are similar. In a limit game, wanting to raise, you would simply grab a bunch of chips, reach out and cut away and bring back the rest. Guess what? You can do that in no-limit too.

To be honest I do not play much live action because of my license in New Jersey forbids me to play in AC. I only play tournaments (usually $10K and up), I did play in the Mohegan Sun tournament a while back ($1k event) cashed of course. My point is that as a player only you can protect yourself. Wait, wait and wait some more until the player has completed his/her action before you act. Be respectful to the game. When it is your time to act, be direct, be clear, and most of all be a gentleman or lady at the table.

I love this attitude and how I approach playing live. I think it comes from playing a lot of sports when I was younger. I wish the guy I busted who decided to throw a huge punch at the table next to a dealer and storm out of the room could follow this advice. I don't understand why people can't just try to be respectful of each other and the venue.

When does the 5/10 limit get going on Sunday? Is it usually soft?
Same question for 10/20.

the 5-10 LHE game is hard to start these days. If the 10-20 doesn't make it through the night, it should start between 9:30 and 10am. I will let the players decide if it is soft.

I guess it has been my work habit for a long long time. I am used to working long hours at a time. It comes from my father who did the same. I respected the way he took care of his family and is obligations. When I was 15, my father bought a convenience store. He still had his normal job so while most teenagers were running around having fun I was working 12 hours days helping out. I have been doing it ever since. I guess you just get used to it.

The games definitely seem to be softer. I just spent 6 days at Borgata and the action was much better than a month or two ago. We had a 40 game on Wed/Thur that lasted till about 6AM. A month ago we'd be lucky to get any game at all.

Of course my view is probably skewed because I cleared around $10k /brag
