The MLife rewards desk by the front door said they "can't see" poker play but I should go to the poker room to get an answer. I went to the desk at the back of the room and the floor person looked up my hours and then gave me credit for the time played. He said the system wouldn't auto-credit like it used to and we need to go to the desk to have the hours added to our balance. He said this was the "compromise" bc the new owners didn't want to credit poker at all.

Sorry if y'all knew this already.
Yeah, it was brought up few months back but it's always good to remind the players who are just returning now. I don't really think MGM didn't wanna compensate poker players, but I guess when people question the process and they hear "It's either this way or nothing" it probably stops everyone from complaining, just imo.

On the one hand, I don't disagree with the sentiment.

On the other hand, if this is because higher management wants their own stooge installed that will be in line with the rest of the policies de-prioritizing poker players since the ownership change, things could be getting even worse.

I don’t think the poker manager is at fault for the decline in the poker room, his hands have been tied. MGM taking away comped rooms from poker players since April has been the new normal. This has really killed all the high limit games, Sunday is dead now. Borgata has become even more of a “weekend room” than it was before. Things will get worse in 2023 when MGM opens up a poker room at Yonkers, full gaming coming to NYC, will be the nail in the coffin for AC.

NYC could have done that years ago but they're too stupid and corrupt. If they had, I'd still live there. Belmont Park was a wasteland the last time I was there and there was plenty of room for a full fledged casino--the structure is huge. Better yet, they could have allowed poker rooms in OTB parlors and it would have paid the rent and they would still have OTB. He who shall remain nameless probably had something to do with NYC not legalizing casinos after he invested in casinos in AC.

Re: Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa (Atlantic City, NJ) -- FAQ in OP, updated 2021.08.16

One of the players in a game tonight claimed we wasn't allowed to bet more than the minimum at blackjack because he didn't have a player's card. I never heard of that. If true, the only reason I can think of is to foil blackjack counters, as they prefer to play anonymously. He claimed it was the same at baccarat, but may have only assumed so, as he probably got a card to play blackjack. It makes absolutely no sense to require players to have a players card for the privilege of losing money to the Borgata (but allow players to bet the minimum?) in any game but possibly blackjack. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?

Also, I noticed a couple of weeks ago that Borgata had installed a second stadium gaming setup out on the floor. Tonight I noticed it was gone. Already? Does anyone know the reason for that? Seems like they never gave it a chance.

otb was mismanaged or corrupt or both.
how can legalized nyc horse racing monopoly lose $ every year?
Bloomberg got it right to stop the bleed.

but yeah, convert the larger otb storefronts into poker rooms would have been a great idea.

I have seen friends get told they can't play more than one hand at a time or bet more than the minimum without a player card.

Is this only at MGM? If that's the case they're gonna lose all the players who don't wanna use cards whether it's bc they pay child support (or are supposed to), have warrants. underpay taxes and think the IRS/State will find out, are not allowed to play according to their spouse and think they can find out, etc. All those players are just gonna play eslewhere (which may or may not be a good thing).

I was at an OTB in upstate NY in the mid-nineties (Schenectady?). It was more like a restaurant with OTB on the side. Think the Borgata sports book with a few small screens instead of the many large screens, and no video poker. A nice place nothing like the dirty OTBs in NYC with no seating. If all OTBs were like that nice one, they would have survived, and they wouldn't have needed that extra 5% take. But then again, they would have licensed out the restaurant concession at top dollar and the food probably would have sucked and they wouldn't have lasted. Tough to make a business work when it's run by the government. I don't know how that place upstate did it, but it worked there.
