5 handed doesn’t sound as appealing when rake is $5 per pot

At mgm in md it’s half rake at five handed. I assume same at borg but haven’t been there so can’t say for sure.

I played at Borgata a few times since they reopened the poker room and can confirm that the games are usually 5 to 6 handed when I played. That’s why I wished they somehow were allowed to provide 8 to 9 handed games with plexiglass to alleviate for the times where some players step away from the table. I have enjoyed rare moments when it was a “full” 7 handed game and I enjoyed the action. You just got to hope that you are playing with other players who are willing to sit at their table most of the time.

Will 2-5 go back to being a time game after COVID?

I don’t know for sure, you will need to ask the staff there but I highly doubt it especially when the new rake change currently favors the poker room financially whether you like it or not.

Do you think that rake is that much of a factor in the game where 5 players are at least 200bb deep (and very often much much deeper), 4 out 5 having difficulties adjusting their ranges based on # of players at the table, and generally (at least for now) do not have a well-developed strategy for playing shortish?

You are right, it’s still very beatable. Just that compared to a timed rake, you are forced to play considerably tighter. A lot less flatting and more 3 betting. You’re essentially being punished for playing loose in a pot raked game.

On weekends you litterally need to get here by 10/11am the latest. You can't show up in the afternoon at all, because the lists are just crazy.

I got here today at 10am and I was lucky to get onto a new 2/5 game in about 45 min, but if I came in only 10 minutes later I woulda had to wait hours bc a sea of people started to line up and the line went all the way to the surface parking door and security had to call for support to move the line out of everyone's way.

As busy as this place is and as soft as the games are (not saying they're not high(er) variance due to players simply there to gamble which is usually a good thing), there are still a lot of negatives imo such as no where for waiting players to wait or even sit down since they removed all the unused chairs out (they don't announce players, they only send out texts), no table changes allowed which is totally whack and they're not nearly as quick as some other rooms (MDL) in cleaning abandoned seats and getting new players in, signing up for new games takes abnormally long, it's like waiting on a bank teller line, and luckily I got out early enough so I don't have to beg for a small bottle of water after 10pm (not their fault, just the dumbo's in power). Also the food court closes at 10 but you can still order a burger from the cashier in the front of the food court who goes to the burger place to get it which makes no sense but if they found a loop hole, I'm all for it.

As much as I love softer games and driving an hour less each way, I personally think MDL gives you a better experience since they ENCOURAGE table changes (come the **** on, you were the Borgata, supposed to be the greatest room in the east but still behind the times), and you will always get a seat without having to wait hours or wake up at the crack of dawn on a weekend. I'm only comparing the Borgata with MDL since that's where I've been playing for the past few months. Not to mention it's harder and/or more costly to get rooms on weekends in AC.

I don't think there will ever be an "after" covid.

Nothing allowed after 10pm. They will announce last call prior to 10.

Last weekend I went down to AC and got there around 1pm. I drove to Borgata and got on the list... Maybe 25 names. Drove to Harrah's and checked in. Drove back to Borgata and was 6th... Didn't wait too much longer for a seat.
Game was really good, it was 1-3 but people were playing worse than usual.
Waitress service was great... Less tables to worry about meant they were always there... Till 945pm.
Food options sucked. Ordered Bread+Butter and they were out of soooo many things at 2am.
I'd suggest food and beverages in a backpack if you'll be there late

what you get for 2/2plo points on the card ? Ill be down there mid week and the 40/80 LHE only runs on the weekend and Im trying to establish a relationship to get comps.

Is it still easy to get free weekend rooms by simply playing poker?

i dont see it in the FAQ unless im blind

Doesn't make any sense to complain about rake in a 5 handed game. If you are in a decent game with a fish or 2 and you are a winning player, then your edge is gonna be even higher than in a full ring game....I mean playing shorter handed is a dream spot for good regs. Put the recs in much tougher spots and they will play higher vpip than usual because they are in the blinds and late position more often.

maybe it's because the people who complain about this aren't very good players? just a thought.

I'm not sure I've ever seen PLO comp rates firmly stated here that I could put them in the FAQ. One of those things I've always meant to ask someone about. My guess would be it's equivalent to 2/5nl (was it also $5/half time?), but it could be the 1/2nl rate (if it was raked).

If you play only poker and average $15 Express Comps per day that you play, you should start seeing free rooms on weekends. It'll take some time, but just don't play any short days and you should be good. It seems less certain if you mix in some pit play.

Yea I guess you are right. Best to leave them complain and continue donating their money. Thanks for your input

I hadnt been there in 2020 until earlier this month. I played 12 hours of 1/2 one Saturday, and now have free weekends through mid February.

that's great but there are plenty of games that were perfectly playable as time games that can easily become unplayable/not worth playing now
when the price of something goes up by several hundred percent people are going to complain
i've kept plenty of short handed games going over the years at borg with 3-4 pros to give the game time to pick up randoms but i'm not gonna pay the casino 40-60 bucks in rake an hour to do that

If it makes you feel a little better, all the timed games also went up by a buck. 40LHE is now $9 and 80OOE is higher. Also, half rake I think now is at 3 (i might be wrong there) so most of the time you paying full time.
