That's just the tip of the iceberg.
Ask Bally's how much of
The BBJP funds they withhold
to pay the administrative
Fees. About 5 years ago
Borgata didn't withhold
Administrative fees from
The BBJP. Don't know
About today.

The NJ regs don't say anything about an administrative allowance for the casino. The part I quoted ("so long as all funds extracted from any pot are awarded to poker players") is all it says about use of the funds.

Borgata, like all the other AC poker rooms, is not in compliance with all the regulatory requirements pertaining to BBJ funds. For example, none of the rooms post “in a conspicuous location” the payout rules and other promotional uses of funds. Also, none of the rooms comply with the restriction that a table can not award both a bad bead jackpot and a high hand to the same table. Based on their non-compliance with the visible to the customer regulations, I doubt that any of the poker room managers know all of the regulations, and DGE doesn’t care. So, it’s not a big stretch to imagine that some BBJ funds are being used for things that are not visible to the customer

The regulations:

Borgata didn't have any administrative fees as of 6 months ago, doubt it changed

The reason I think
This is still true is because the BBJP
at Borgata
grows very quickly. As homework
someone should follow the growth
Of the BBJP at all the area casinos
Every day for a month.

Well dipce, you're probably the only poster who's in all the area casinos every day, so....

Borgata's probably grows faster than most, since even on a slow day they run more games than anybody else. (Probably more than everybody else combined on a lot of not especially busy days.) Since the high hand started coming out of it, it goes up a little over $1k/day. Before, it went up over $5k/day.

If they're taking $50k a week in jackpot drop, that probably just covers everything: 20% to big jackpot (if needed, since it's capped now), 10% to reset, 70% ($35k) covers the high hand and fast cash for the week.

Hey group! Visiting AC for the first time this weekend with a group of poker buddies. I normally play 1/3, with occasional 2/5, at MGMNH. Just looking for some tips on what to play/where to eat/any quirky rules to be aware of. Trying to keep costs low.

Thanks!

- DT

Welcome to town, DT! Borgata's the choice for poker, though we do have some Ocean Resort boosters. Borg offers the most tables and most variety of games if you want to branch out. Presumably you want to go to 1/2nl. The FAQ in the OP of this thread should give you all the basics you need, and there's a link there for the official handout of house rules. I don't think there's anything too quirky, but I haven't played anywhere else in ages so of course it all seems normal to me.

Restaurants on the main floor are good but not terribly cheap (except Noodles of the World). The Marketplace under the poker room is quick and less expensive (and more variable in quality).

I'm semi-planning to go down this weekend...perhaps we'll cross paths.

Hey Dumbo,

I would not play anywhere other than the borgata. Hell, i would get a room at the borgata, and never leave the borgata, thats what I do every time i go to AC.

Borgata has 1/2/300 and 2/5/1k. The 1/2/300 is $4, the 2/5/1000 is $5/hh, so the 2/5 game has a way way way way better rake structure, and even gives you $0.50/hr in comps/tier credits to boot. Also 5-7.5 hrs per day at 2/5 will start comped rooms rolling in, whereas youd need 7.5-10 at 1/2.

I think moreso than any other casino in america, this is the one where if youre not sure between 1/2 and 2/5 you should be playing 2/5.

Thanks, guys. We booked a room at an inn 10 minutes outside AC. I'll be wearing a shock top hat in case anyone wants to say hello.

2/5 sounds like the way to go. Will probably end up playing both 1/2 and 2/5.

Cheers.

Has anyone here done the $100 tourney they run at 11:00 AM on Mondays?

I've always just played cash games but I'd like to try a tourney at some point.

It this a good one to start with? Are they relatively easy on tourney newbies?

Played here for the first time last weekend at the $2/5 games. What a wonderful room and got a chance to play with some obvious regulars who were pretty friendly. Not sure if I played with any of you all here, but if I did it was a pleasure playing with you.

Rake structure at that game was great compared to my usual games and loved the high hand bonus was going during Friday and Saturday night. Can't wait to come back.

Please note that Borgata’s cancellation policy has been updated.

Anybody know what the change is? The link for the T&C wouldn't open anything.

Thanks!

Noticed it when I was making a reservation for the end of the month. I'm 95% sure I'll be able to use it, but I'll definitely know by the Wednesday before.

Does anybody have experience booking multiple rooms as MGM owned? It’s been a while since I was a regular at Borgata, about 5ish years. I did play the winter open last year and stayed a few nights earned some points and do hold an account. My wifes family is planning a huge trip in June and it’ll be about 12 of us, and I’m the only one with an account. Any idea if booking 5 rooms would do anything in terms of rates? The trip will be the last weekend in June, all of my rates shown online are until May only so far, all of the June days are still whited-out. I know this is more of a question for the hotel but I figured if anybody here has experience booking multiple rooms and what kind of deals they get? It would be the 28th and 29th. Any tips on the best way to ask for rooms or book them? Thanks in advance

unless you're a huge whale, you're not getting a discount on any but your first room and they are super expensive in the summer

if you go 2 weeks later you might be able to get a poker rate for the open tournament, but that requires 5 separate accounts, they won't let you book 5 rooms otherwise

The online comp calendar only ever goes three months ahead (so it's just passed Memorial Day weekend, if anybody's looking for that).

I would think they must have group rates of some sort...hard to imagine all those bachelor/ette parties are paying full price for groups of weekend rooms. But I don't know for sure, and you'd definitely have to call to find out.

The 28th and 29th are Friday and Saturday. The rates for these days will be high.

Yea unfortunately the family want to do a friday-sunday trip and I know the rates are going to be up there. I was just never in a predicament where I needed to try and look for a bulk rate for multiple rooms/connecting rooms but the more I read into it the more I’m starting to think it’s not even an option for the average shmuck get a break $$ wise for 5-6 rooms. It says on the site they dont consider a group rate less than 11 rooms so I guess the fam couples are left to fork up the full rate if they want to stay there. Makes sense I guess from a strict business standpoint. Im sure if a bunch of regular guys even ones who raked up decent comps went to all book rooms for themselves friends and family under the same account the hotel would be leaving a whole lotta money on the table.

yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they quoted you $5K+ for the whole thing, even conference rates aren't fantastic and they bring way more than 11 bookings

they will be sold out every weekend in the summer and they know it

What food options do they currently have in the food court under the poker room? Any particular ones great and are recommended?

Burgers and Fries is good if not exceptional. Cheesesteak place and Italian place are both decent, Asian and Mexican places are mediocre and overpriced. Everything there for comp dollars costs 2 comp dollars for 1 real dollar.

I agree 100%. I wanted a change of pace a few months ago, tried it, and thought it was the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life.

Just go to Amphora, EZ game.
