So these are the only time games that use the Lobby?[/QUOTE]

For 10-20 and 20-40 games, Lobby is only used when the 3rd man walking rule applies. Just to track how long the 3rd man is walking.

And players will be removed from the Lobby in what manner? Is it when you sit back down, or when you're free of Absent buttons? (The former is what makes sense, the latter is what they were saying on 1/1.)

So these are the only time games that use the Lobby?
I asked about this when I first played after January 1, and I watched to make sure. Players are taken out of the lobby and resume earning comps when they sit down.

Where you at? Str8 flush over Str8 flush. Flop was 10C JC X. Turn gets it there with 9C. Seat 1 holds 78C and seat 3 KQC.

Confirmed that they are picking people up. Saw more of it this weekend (Sun - Mon) than ever before.

Also nice that absent buttons are returned upon player return, although a few dealers took them back if the players timing was just bad (went to bathroom, returned to find absent button and new dealer).

A bit perturbed when I returned after what I thought was a well timed break. Waited until the dealer change, played a couple hands, went for a cigar. Returned about 65 minutes later (I was keeping track, but went an extra few minutes not thinking it mattered). Found my chips bagged, floor still there. I asked about getting picked up with 2 absent buttons and open seating. Was told that there were 3 buttons (must have short shifted dealers), no response to open seating part, even when pressed. Had to go to back podium, as they recorded the wrong name. Table insta-vouched for me before realizing there was even a wrong name. Security checked and confirmed it was me in less than a minute. First time I have been picked up.

Seriously. If you are going to be gone that damn long just pick up your chips and go on the dinner list.

Not only are you clogging up the games, but from a purely selfish perspective I don't understand why people leave chips and do the waltz around for two hours thing. You are getting charged the whole time.

Pro tip: if you play ten hours a week and lobby two hours, if you pick up your chips instead of lobbying you will save 960$ a year (or more if you play higher than 2/5). If you play some game that isn't time charge I'm sorry, but I see this all the time at time charge games so wanted to rant a bit.

i'm with the dinner list crew. even if it's open seating... the more true empty seats at your table the more likely you are to get the next new player.

Can someone simplistically explain the policy for getting up/going on a break during a cash game and like doing a dinner break instead of just getting up and stuff?

Just getting up and taking your chips -> the seat opens up for a new player, and when you return you put your name back on the list, but you're at the end of the list and may have to wait a while for a new seat

Getting on the dinner list and taking your chips -> the seat opens up for a new player, and you have X amount of time to return, but when you do you go to the top of the list and get the next open seat. You're also usually first up on must moves to get moved back to your original position in the chain.

Leaving your chips at the seat -> you tie up the seat for however long you are gone, causing the game to be shorter while you are gone. You will be picked up if you're gone for too long. But when you return you go right back to your seat and start playing immediately.

leaving chips at the table - you'll be picked up after 2 absent buttons in raked games/3 buttons in time games, so you have max of 1-1.5hrs to return depending on where you're playing (if there's a waiting list)

going on a dinner list - you have 2hrs to return and you'll be placed first on a waiting list when you do

Thanks for the info everyone, for dinner list when you sit back down at your past table or otherwise, can you only buy in for (up to) the max? Or can you put down whatever your old stack was? Or even maybe are you forced to play whatever your old stack was?

Is the "dinner list" a new thing?
It sounds good although it has the potential to be infuriating if you are (for example) #3 on the "regular" list and a ton of "dinner list" people keep (virtually) jumping in ahead of you.

But... overall it sounds like an improvement.

I think that is was new as of June, 2007, when the poker room moved from downstairs to its existing location.

you'd be surprised how few ppl actually use the dinner list. when they kept it at front podium it usually had only 5-10 names on it

A) I didn't insinuate that they only spread 1/2

B) On any given night it comprises 1/4-1/2 of all their tables, so people probably shouldn't talk like it doesn't exist

I know it exists, I just thought people would be able to insinuate that I was referring to time games with my comments. If your game isn't a time game, feel free to ignore.

Though I have to say, my comments are probably falling on deaf ears since IME, the type of people who just leave their stack for hours aren't exactly the type of people to post on 2p2.

Only time it is kind of annoying is when a game is dead and could benefit from some new players. Otherwise, it's OK in my book to play short handed.
