They definitely had way too many props employed, so my guess is that this is their way of reducing it without having to have legitimate reasons to fire individuals. I wouldn't be surprised if they hire a few back in a few months.
Thanks for the info, but someone else said both rooms got rid of props the same day, which are you talking about? Doesn't seem like it could be a coincidence if both really dropped them.

Ehh, maybe. A guy was beaten to death in the Garden City parking lot a couple years ago. And there are some nearby apartment complexes with some marginal people living in them.

3/6 is teh suck at Garden City. They drop $5, Bay drops $4. That's a big difference in such a small game.

Only GC got rid of all of their props. The poster worded his post poorly.

What are the charges in the other games? Is Garden City higher at all levels?
I will be travelling there soon, probably playing 8/16 and possibly the 15/30 or 20/40.

There was also the dead woman found in the car in the parking lot before (pretty sure she was killed), but that was a long time ago.

I feel safer walking out of GC than most SoCal rooms, but definitely a notch below Bay 101.

I wasn't referring to the drop, just the action. I've donked around waiting for another game and the action can be phenomenal.

There is security patrolling the GC parking lot, I've never felt unsafe at any time.

I don't recall anybody being "beaten" to death in the parking lot. Thats just not true. As for the apartment buildings, you could say that about any apartment complex. Those people affect you how, exactly??

There was a older guy that was found in the road a few blocks from the club, it was reported in the paper. Nobody really knows what happened.

Yes, the extra dollar drop hurts smaller games. That was a bad decision, but the games can be really good despite that.

Both rooms have similar action, I've played both rooms, just depends where you feel like playing.

5$ flat at all other limit games i believe (NF1$). Short handed NL has slightly better structure (NFND).

Without any props and most regs playing at bay, the 15/30 is ridonkulously good at gc. Especially if you play shorthanded. Only 1 table at 4pm today, and it was running short and eventually broke.

For those who care, I have been told that Bay 101 has applied to the state gaming commission to change the 1-2-2 no limit game to a 1-2-3 game with a $3 bring in.

That would be nice.

I didn't know they had to get permission for these sort of changes, however.

Yes, the state gaming commission controls almost every aspect of a game. If the Casino wants to change blind structure, add/delete a kill, add a new limit, change from a rake to a time pot, etc....

Not really.

It is local option, ie the city of San Jose decides.

The state does not control the minutiae.

Re: Bay 101, San Jose CA Thread

Changes to game structure have to be submitted to the Bureau of Gambling Control. The form that must be submitted is called "Application for Controlled Game Review". Amongst the detail that is included is:
a. Standards of play.
b. “Standard” 52-card deck or other type of card deck.
c. Describe dealing procedures.
d. Number of players in the game.
e. Description of how and when are house fees collected.
f. Betting limits.
g. Betting scheme.
h. How winners determined and paid.

I am NOT saying that the City of San Jose doesn't also have to approve, but the state is very involved as well.

Re: Bay 101, San Jose CA Thread

So what kind of low stakes games are they running there now? Their website seems to only mention their limit games?

I'm an exchange student who doesn't really play poker anymore but would like to try out a real US casino for the experience. I'm looking for the lowest stakes NLHE games in the SJ area.

Re: Bay 101, San Jose CA Thread

yeah, they are always running. usually one more 2/3/5 game than 1/2/2 game going, but always at least a few of each.

The quality of the games varies quite a bit, in my experience. I usually go on a Thurs or Fri evening, but have dropped in on a few weekday and weekend afternoons.

For the most part, I see a lot of nits and stations, with a few horrible ss players thrown in. There will usually be one std internet tag type person and every now and then someone w/ a huge stack trying to bluff every pot - but those are fairly rare that I've seen so far.

Edit: I've only played the 2/3/5 games a handful of times, but they seem loser than the 1/2/2 games (more full stacks at least).

That sounds pretty good. Might even be an income opportunity Don't really have the roll for the 2/3/5 (not even for the 1/2/2 for that matter though.

Re: Bay 101, San Jose CA Thread

It's not a "real U.S. casino" either. It's a California cardroom, a specific type of place with a limited number of games. There's no craps or roulette or slot machines or traditional blackjack as you would find in a Vegas casino. What's probably closer to that is an Indian casino, such as the San Pablo casino up near Oakland. No poker there though.

A California cardroom is ok too. As long as there's dealers at the tables I'm satisfied. I would never dream of playing any of the traditional casino games anyways.

I'm going to be in town for the next week and want to play some Omaha. When would I have the best chance for it to run (what days and what times)?
