The city isn't passing a law. There is a proposal before the voters on June 8 to change rules for the casinos as follows:
1) move from 40 to 49 tables
2) raise rake tax from 13% to 15%
3) remove the $200 max limitation.

There is no proposed change that would allow jackpots
One more change. Any game allowed in California would be allowed. Currently they have a list of "approved games" for SJ.

City Council just approved Garden City to move across from the DoubleTree.

Thank goodness.

I agree. Jackpots are a rip-off. All cardrooms and casinos hold back a certain percentage as "administrative fees". So it is like betting on the lottery, you put in a $1 and get $0.70 back.

Garden City has nicer chairs, food is pricey, floor people are horrible

Bay 101 has better floor people, food is better, chairs are like sitting on wood slabs (especially compared to Vegas chairs, GC, or Lucky Chances)

The city is about to pass a law that will enable both casinos to have more tables and a jackpot. Voting takes place in June
Bad players at each place, food is pricier at GC but much better also. I've eaten many items at BAY 101 and can't believe you think the food is better. Cheaper but not better.

What don't you like about the floor people at GC?? Just curious.....

The vote is tomorrow June 8th. If you live in San Jose, vote YES on Measure K. Tell your friends and coworkers to do the same. If you live outside of San Jose like I do, then call your friends in San Jose and tell them to help us out.

Not everyone thinks that the bill is a good idea. NL and higher taxes (e.g. higher rake) are disadvantages that outweigh the advantage of getting a few more tables.

So, according to the another thread, NL has started.

I bumped because I was hoping some regs could give info on the action during a typical weekend . I used to play the 20-40 LHE when I lived here before, and that game and anything higher (LHE or NLHE) is what I'm looking for info on.

thanks!

They started NL last Friday, 8/13. They had 1-1-2 and 2-3-5 and 25-25 NL going after 6p.

I don't play limit but the 20-40 games seems to always be running. 40-80 is very often going in the afternoon/evening.

The other poster already covered NL (they frequently also talk about a 5/10 NL game but I have not seen it run yet).

5/10 NL+ and 20/40 LHE+ are all handled from the high limit board.

Limit:
20/40 runs basically 24/7.
40/80 runs everyday, but not usually through the night.

NL:
1/1/2 and the 2/3/5 look like probable mainstays. Yesterday they had a single 5/10 NL for a while. It's not clear if/how long they'll be able to keep that game running. They're trying to run 25/25 M-W-F, but I suspect they're going to limit (har har) it to one table in the future. At least until they get their 9 extra tables.

BTW, the move from 40 to 49 tables will occur once they get state license clearance. (Already cleared by the city). Current projected start is 9/6.

I'll be staying at Holiday Inn which is directly across the freeway from Bay 101, I can't tell from the satellite view if there is a pedestrian bridge or footpath. Is there?

Nope. Have to go north on 1st St, right on Brokaw and then a right on Bering. Just under a mile walk.

What games are currently being spread? I'm going to be out in the area next week and wondering if there's any O8 or Stud8 being spread, or if it's just 100% hold'em at Bay 101 and Garden City.

Thanks!

What are we talking, like 2/4, 3/6?

How about regular Stud.. any 5/10, 10/20 there or at Garden City (or any other rooms.. only 2 I've really heard about so far.)?

I played 4/8 Stud Monday and it ran in the evening Tuesday, did not run Wednesday when I left at 5pm. Drop is $6, which may make the game unbeatable, I'm not sure.

Don't forget 40-80 LHE.

And the 25-25NL is dead.

What happened to it? Seemed to be so strong for awhile.

Have you seen the 200/400 placard? Guess that doesn't go very often.
