Apparently the WPT and the Bay101 Shooting Star Tournament have parted company.

Does anyone know if they are still running their tournaments?

No tournaments - for now...
Nobody can really explain what "for now" means.

I figured that would happen with the de-emphasis on poker and smaller space. They would have a hard time putting it on without losing a bunch of tables for that week. Plus it was that old owner's baby - he liked hanging out with the tv pros. After he died I'm surprised they kept doing it as long as they did. It cost them a lot of money for the week.

I don't know if tournaments made money for them or not, but Bay is the last casino that needs them. There's no lack of traffic in there. I think a lot of players played the tournies to win Shooting Star points, and with that gone...

Closer to San Jose now so looking for some info. What are the main differences between the 1/2/3 and 2/3/5 games? What are the minimum bets?

I'm not too concerned about the larger buy-in, just interested in how the playing styles might differ.

Same as any other 2/5 NL, more aggro. The Deepstack 2/3/5 is much more so, sometimes crazy.

How long is the wait now on weekdays and weekends?

Shorter than the amount of time you're going to wait for a non-sarcastic answer on this thread.

If you want to improve your odds, start by asking about specific games and specific times of the day. You might wait hours for a 80/160 LHE seat if the game is good at peak hours but you'll probably walk into an 8/16 LHE or 1/2/3 NL if you show up at 11 pm.

Friday evening is a cluster****. The wait is an hour to hour an a half for 4/8 LHE+ to 2/3/5 NL. After 11PM it gradually gets better.

20/40 varies depending on the number of tables and the size of the list. I would advise to call in advance and put your name in for 20/40+. 80/160 really depends if there's one game or two. If there's two games you could get a seat right away. If there's one you might be locked out.

Saturdays are more reasonable but still bad IMO for low limits.

Wow, that's pretty good. It used to be much worse. 3 and 4 hour waits for 1/2/2 were not uncommon.

That's because 40% of the 1/1/2 players can't find the new building.

I will be in San Jose this Saturday and thinking of playing here or M8trix in the afternoon for a few hours.

I usually play 2/5 NLHE. Is that the same as 2/3/5 blinds? Is it 2 (button), 3 (small blind), and 5 (big blind)? Do I have to post both blinds and button as a new player?

Any other tips on what to expect would be helpful - waiting times, time rake, chopping allowed etc.

Thanks!

Ya, ya, no, just the big blind.

Saturday afternoon is not real busy, so the wait is usually < 1 hour, sometimes no wait at all. No time on this game, just a $6 drop on the flop. Chopping allowed but button pays $1 so some players won't chop on the button.

There is also a deep stack game that plays quite a bit wilder and bigger, buy-ins up to $2k I think. M8trix is very similar.

Hi all couple basic questions questions. I was at Bay101 back in May, seems like things have changed.

1) Is it obvious where the new building/poker room is? Tried google maps but pointed me to the same spot i remember.. . I will be ubering so hope it's obvious where to go and that uberhas the right address for Bay101?

2) Can you see TV's from the tables? and will they generally have NFL on them on Sunday? I want to watch the LA v PHL game and if there isn't any chance to watch while playing then I'll go play afterwards.

3) what action can I generally expect on Sunday and Tuesday night. Specifically 20-40 though 80-160

thanks all.

N 1st Street at Matrix, at the Light Rail Metro station.

Google Maps

The old building was across the 101 freeway next to the 24HR Fitness.

Was there Jan 1st playing 2 3 5 with a 7 drop if 7 or more players dealt in plus $1 more when a river was dealt. 1 2 3 now 6 every flop with 7 or more players plus $1 if river is seen.

It was $5 for about 10 years until October 2016 when they made it 6 at 235 and the limit 6 12 and 8 8 16 tables while the 123 and limit 36 stayed at 5. August saw the 3 6 and 6 12 limit range disappear and a new 4 8 limit created.

The new bay had the 123 buyin change from 40 to 200 to 100 to 300 and an increase to 6 drop. Jan 1 is still 6 but 1 more if a river.

Management explanation for the drop increase is to pay the higher minumum wage. So next year San Jose minimum wage goes to 15 and the rake will be.....

if playing is entertainment and you dont mind paying for that then it makes sense to play.
at some point you have to weigh the cost versus returns. most dont want to as gambling can become addictive just like cigs and those that partake dont want to hear the truth.

Quite obscene considering Bellagio is charging $9 per half hour and Bay was $11 before the move. Hands per hour was quite high too ~40/hr according to the floormen.

Also the minimum wage thing is slightly disingenious since the dealers have to pay a drop for each table they go to.. so its really Bay 101 jacking rates up because they can and because they dont believe it will impact game health.
