- does 6/12 and 1/2 NL usually run all night?
- does the 1/2 NL game use 5 and 1 dollar chips or 2 dollar chips? (I played at Banker's Casino in Salinas last weekend and they used 2 dollar chips, so I thought I'd ask)

Thanks!
Can't speak for the 6/12, but as for the 1/2... it's actually 1/2/2 NL. I'd be surprised if it didn't run all night, but can't confirm for certain. $5 rake every time there's a flop (when there are 7+ players, lower with 6 or less), $1 when no flop. $1/$5 chips confirmed.

It's not a rake, it's a drop. All California cardrooms seem to do that.

The 1/2/2 NL has a $4 bring-in (sorta). It's $4 to limp.

The few times I've been there all night (or came in vvv early) 6/12 has always been going. Generally down to 1 table but never seen it break. Never paid any attention to NL so no idea there.

Id say theres a 95% chance 1/2/2 is running all night

played 1/2/2 and 6/12 for the first time there last thursday night, overall had an awesome session in 1/2/2, won about 3 BI, dumped a rack at 6/12. the 1/2/2 I thought was kinda weird with the 4 dollar bring-in. there were some other "west coast" things i wasn't used to like prop players (some of them were pretty horrendous actually), and no dead buttons (which i don't think is really fair in limit games cuz people get to skip their big blind). Another thing I didn't really like was the preference towards prop players, we were 5 handed in the 6/12 game and they brought in a prop player and said he was from a broken game and didn't have to post, which was a lie (walked over and saw the other 2 6/12 games which both had full tables).

The skipped blinds thing only happens in the smaller games. At 20/40+, you don't get to miss your blinds under any circumstances.

I seriously doubt they let a prop player join in without posting. How does the fact that there are 2 other full 6/12 games have anything to do with a table breaking? If a table breaks, by definition it is going to fill up any non-full tables. I mean, it's possible, but I've never seen prop players get any preferential treatment like this.

I swear that last part happened. everyone at the table called BS about there being a broken game (it was only like 8pm or so and the room was pretty full), but the floor just walked away. people started complaining bout that floor person after he left. couple rounds after that the prop was talking to another prop at the table about how he just got to the card room, so it was an obvious lie.

I've seen them let people in with broken game privileges when a game broke at another limit and there were no seats at that limit. Not sure if this meets the rule or not, seems to meet the spirit and I'd rather have a player in my game than not.

I thought the prop players at Bay and Garden City were fired about the time when that measure passed to allow no limit games. Are you talking about players with badges? Casino employees have to wear a badge, but they aren't prop players.

At 1/2/2 has the buyin been increased to 300 max?

The props were fired at GC not Bay. And yes they allow people from broken games at other limits to get a free hand at a different limit.

at those limits there will be beatable games going all night.

Props: If the game they are propping actually breaks, they don't cut for a seat or go on the list. They might have been pulled out of a full game having just gone through the blinds to prop your game. Their job is to keep your game going. If it is shorthanded and almost ready to break, you want him to take a hand now, not wait for the blind.

"came from a broken game" is a convenient fiction.

Question on the 1-1-2 game $4 limp. Whats a good winrate @ that game? I come from the east coast where its 1-2 $2 limp 10% rake and it plays different. I know LCs always has tons of short stackers at the table. Bay 101 a short stack hell?

Yes sometimes.. (Its 1-2-2 btw) A good WR is probably around $20-$25/hr.
Super low min and max buy (something like $40or$50 to $200max) Most people buy in for ~100. But everyone is pretty bad.

Garden City has 1/2/3 nl with 300 max buy that runs a little better I feel

I'll have to consider that then. I saw it once.

What I dont like about LCs is that its higher variance for a lower winrate. $20-$25 an hour @ LCs risking 2x as much per pot when playing a straight 2/4 @ oaks can yield a greater winrate just seems silly to me.

LCs 1/2 is effectively a 2/4 game with mountains of short stackers. Not to mention I will be bored beyond belief playing uber tight vs the rake.

Good thing is LC players are far worse than AJs or Oaks.

How are the 2/3/5 and 5/5/10 games at Bay101 like, much game selection at all? Player skill? I'm thinking of moving to either the LA or Bay Area for a little while for reasons other than poker but of course would like to put in some time at the tables esp. since there's no more online poker these days. Of course LA has softer games but I like the Bay Area better for lifestyle/people from previous visits. Do you ever get lots of tourists/recreational players there during the week or only on the weekends? I assume since Silicon Valley has lots of bright minds working in tech companies that the standard of play would be significantly higher than LA, am I correct?

Also for the 5/5/10 how big does it play? the 2/3/5 do players rebuy multiple times, and do people usually sit in fullstacked?

Also I do remember some guy from Bay101 shot/killed or followed home and robbed last year or something.. is that sort of thing common?

Thanks

there are alot less larger games in the bay area, but the players that play are usually very well off. playing conditions are much better especially with the class of people.
living in the bay area is wonderful. in l.a. not many will say that.

Gak! They have raised the drop on 3/6 to $5. Makes it nearly unplayable for anything more than entertainment.

So which casino has the best chairs?

The typical poker chairs are really tough on my back. Oaks has has these chairs, LCs has em. I got a long torso and usually have to slump over at the table and in 2 hours my back is killing me. I need a lower chair.

Any hope Bay101 or Garden has comfy chairs like the Borgata in A/C? or any casino for that matter. I'll pay extra rake just to not have back aches.

Im almost thinking of buying and bringing my own folding chair.

No idea of A/C but Bay 101 has premium high-dollar chairs on the low limit side, so probably throughout the room now.

Yea pretty much. I started carrying a shotgun with me when I play at Bay101. I feel much safer now. It sucks I have to check the shells at the door, but since I have it propped against my seat no one follows me home, kills me, and takes my monies anymore.
