I've played in every cardroom in NorCal. Bay101 is, by far, the best. For all the reasons mentioned here - especially the fact that it a collection of human ATM machines. NO trip to the valley goes without a session or more at 101. That would be like walking past money on the sidewalk and not taking a moment to pick it up!

Like every other room on the planet, it has pro's and con's. IMHO, the pro's far exceed the con's.

If that's crazy Bernie, tell him Spike sez hi. Helluva LHE playa.

I played and proped for year's at the Garden, the spread games were always way juicier there than at 101. But like anywhere, it just depends on where the live Whales happen to be playing at.
but do they still spread stud and stud/8 @ Bay and GC?

There has never been any game except holdem and O8 since I started playing there a year ago. Lucky chances in colma has a couple of low limit stud games running.

What would be the best time during the week to go? I'm only in town for a few days but don't want to waste my time going during a really slow time. Is there any place that I can find a list of games that are currently running?
Thanks

It might get slow between 3 and 5 a.m. There will still be games going though.

I think you'll find the problem with Bay 101 is the opposite of slow.

What is the prize structure for the $1000 and $2000 satellites to the Shooting Stars tournament? That is for each of these satellites, how many top finishers get a seat to the $10,000 event?

One seat is awarded for every $10,000 collected, per Matt S.

Well if you go to the bay101 web site and look at the payout structure for the $2000 buy-in, it says there are only 3 seats awarded. I am sure there will more than 15 players in that event.

The $2000 buy in is not a Satellite. It is a regular tournament.

http://www.bay101.com/wsoppayout2010.html

The top 3 each have $10K of their prize money forcibly turned into entries to the main event.

Are there any seats awarded for the $1000 tourneys March 3rd-6th?

I think Bay 101 needs to do whatever it is Lucky Chances did to have true NL. I'm tired of the dirty room with lack of parking.Bay 101 is 10 minutes further from me but well worth the drive and I've only been there once

It's a County law. I heard it won't be changing. Also the spread limits will not be increased.

Yes, those are satellites directly into the WPT event.

FYP. The rest is correct (seems that 101's management loved to spread rumors that they were going to get more tables, etc. Not going to happen. Any change has to come via the ballot, not City Hall.).

I'm trying to decide on whether to play the 2k prelim, or take 3 shots at the main (on the 2 540's and a 1k). I really dislike the rebuy events leading up to the main, but if forced to I may give those a shot with limited bullets.

I'd be interested to see how anyone else is planning on trying to get into the 2010 Shooting Stars.

Won't the 540's be just like the other satellites except for a higher buy-in?

I think the 540's are freezeouts, and the others leading up to them (and the 1k's) are rebuys...but I'm not positive on this, just going off the Bay 101 website.

Actually I think it's San Jose city ordinance. Certainly other Santa Clara County venues spread no-limit games, including NLHE, in times past. I'm thinking of the Cameo Club in Palo Alto and the Wagon Wheel in Mountain View. The Cameo Club is long-since close, and the Wagon Wheel lost its city-sponsored gaming license in the late 90s.

As for changes, whether or not the city approves, the club is bound by the state's moratorium on expanding gambling.

I like Bay 101 as well, though I have my complaints.

1) the 20-min lobby time is poorly enforced. Sometimes guys are gone
for much longer and no pick up.
2) the 8-16 is too close to the 6-12 game. Make it 10-20 with yellow chips
or 12-24 with the Bay 101 $3 chips
3) the kill on 8-16 does not have last option to act, but must act in turn.
Every other place I have ever played including GC make kill have last
option
4) Have a lobbying charge on lower games (like there is on 20-40 and above)
to solve complaint #1
5) Or have a 3rd man walking rule to solve complaint #1
6) Make the all-in bet rule for limit consistent with most of the rest of the
universe. That is, instead of being restricted to "completing the bet",
allow any all-in which 1/2 or more of a bet, to be considered a bet, so that it
can be raised

My other comment:
There is betting line on the table, but it is not used at the 101. In fact
some of the tables have been re-felted recently and the line is gone.
There rule is the forward-motion rule, but even this is virtually never enforced.

+1

EVEN THOUGH THE NUMERICAL DIFFERENCE IS SMALL IT IS MY EXPERIENCE THAT THE GAMES ARE QUITE DIFFERENT. IT SURPRISED ME AT FIRST, BUT THE 8 HAS MORE ACTION AND PLAYS BIGGER. I DON'T THINK THAT IT IS DUE TO THE KILL, BUT RATHER THE KINDS OF PLAYERS THAT ARE DRAWN TO THE 8. THIS IS ONE OF THE EXCEPTIONS TO THE BIGGER GAME IS TOUGHER RULE.

PERSONALLY I PREFER THIS WAY OF PLAYING THE KILL. SINCE EVEN THE REGS HAVE TROUBLE FIGURING OUT WHAT TO DO WITH THE KILL ON, MAKING THE KILLER PLAY IN TURN REALLY PERMITS ISOLATING THE DEAD MONEY.

You notice a difference because of the structure. 4/8 promotes action. 3/6 promotes nittery especially in small games when the sb is sometimes 1 chip. This is why 8 is THAT much bigger than 6.

I also feel it's better to have the kill act in turn.

I played a bit at Bay last night. FWIW I asked at the desk what no limit games were running and one of the employees said "we don't have no limit" and the other said "but wait a few months and we will"

I didn't ask for clarification, so cue the full disclaimer.

I played the 3/5 spread limit game and I couldn't believe the action, so many loose players dumping buyin after buyin. Was only my second time playing live so I don't have much reference, but man were these guys ever throwing $$$ away...
