So I want to take the wife on a romantic weekend. She is not much of a gambler and I want to focus on her, to let her relax. I was thinking a casino in ac because they have plenty of dining, shopping, and entertainment all under one roof. That way we can really relax rather that trying to walk around and see everything if we go to a place like NYC (we are from Baltimore). Which hotel would probably best for what I am looking for, minus the gambling?

Also, if you have a suggestion other than AC for mLk weekend, let me know. I really appreciate any input. Thanks!

borgata, especially water club is best. great indoor pools that feel like outdoors. harrah's is nice too. trump plaza has great rooms all with ocean views (but no poker). and caesars rooms and shops are top notch as well. imo

Dan,

For a non-gambling experience, I'd say Borgata. Feels new and clean. They also usually have the best entertainment. I can't say anything about the food, though.

I couldn't stay in AC for more than a weekend if I wasn't playing poker.

Here is a link to the AC Jitney site. It's a bit confusing so I would call. Plus, it appears the routes have changed since the last time they were explained to me:
http://www.jitneyac.com/

Although I've seen them running, I haven't taken them yet so I cannot comment.

If you're coming from NYC on the Academy Bus line (and Greyhound?) it's most cost effective way to get to the Borgata.

In all honestly don't bother trying to memorize which routes stop at which hotels. It's much easier to just ask the Jitney driver if it stops at your chosen destination. Keep in mind however that for the boardwalk casinos, the stops are not right at the entrance of the casino and you will have to walk a bit to get to the casino. At Borgata and Harrahs, the stop is right a the casino. I assume the same for Golden Nugget, but have never tried to get there by Jitney. The ride is not bad and is worth the 2.50 you pay to get across town.

it's pretty easy - if you are going to the marina dist. (Nugget, Harrahs and Borgata) it's a number 2. Number 1 does not go to the marina.

They stop pretty much right in front of each hotel.

Thinking about hitting up AC for my birthday in late Jan/early Feb..I have free nights at Bally's, Showboat, and Harrah's.. Is there a clear winner among these 3?

GF will also be joining me if that makes a difference on which to pick. I've only ever been to AC once and stayed just outside the city in a cheep motel. It was also like 5 years ago so any 2+2 help would be greatly appreciated.

The rooms at all these places are going to be similar, and pretty nice IMO.
Depends on what you want to be near. Bally's is in the center of the boardwalk strip so is the most central location. Showboat is at the end of the strip next to the Taj. Harrahs is not near the Boardwalk but in the Marina district near Borgata and Golden Nugget.

For poker, I think the clear choice is Harrahs...they have the best poker room among the CET properties, and they are the only one that is close to Borgata. I also think they have the nicest rooms of the three, but I have a Diamond card so I always get a Waterfront room. If you are interested in the boardwalk, Ballys would be best, but the boardwalk is pretty dead in the winter anyway.

I would agree that Harrah's and Bally's are probably your best choices. Harrah's poker room has the most games going out of the four, and the most choice. Bally's recently changed their 1-3 game as well which is generating more action. As far as the GF, both properties have great pools/spas and access to other areas in AC, for example the shopping outlets and entertainment venues are just a Jitney ride away....

Actually, from Bally's, the shopping district is a short walk away - as are the Pier Shops at Caesars.

heading to AC 4th-6th. can't find any FL hold 'em tournaments info online. do they still exist or is there only only FL cash games?

also, bringing the gf who i've barely introduced to poker, so looking for freerolls for her but again, no luck searching. nothing? i only found the 'play 50 hrs. to get into freeroll' type of thing. she obviously isn't going to do that.

i'm not aware of any daily tourneys that aren't NL. here is a list of dailies. you'll find a table of low limit games everywhere, and more tables and higher limits at taj and borgata. good luck.

That list has not been updated in a long time. Call each room to verify tourneys.

oops. sorry. that is old. i guess i never noticed they stopped updating. thanks for catching that.

here is another list... but probably still a good idea to check with each room. they should all list their dailies on their websites.

Harrahs HOOKED me up with comps I just got in he mail. Three nights in any harrahs property in Atlantic city and one night in any harrahs Vegas property. Plus 100 free slot dollars and two free buffets.

The thing is I only played in harrahs for two hours tops. Turned 200 into 2000 and left. This normal?!

That is definitely not normal. Normal would be turning 200 into 0 if you're talking table games.

Oh wait, did you mean is THIS normal? I'd also have to guess no, although I'm not really sure.

Maybe one being abnormal has something to do with the other being abnormal.

I'm not aware of any freerolls in A.C. other than the ones that require substantial play (50+ hours for the CET ones) over a monthly basis. Nothing daily or weekly.

Some of the daily tournaments are inexpensive (under $50), and a person can play for a few hours on that. Also, the 2/4 limit games everywhere and the 1/1 NL game at Bally's can offer a lot of play for small buy ins.

LVL has a thread on this and I'm not sure if it's been addressed here. Are there any luxury high-rise condos in AC that poker players tend to populate, i.e. Panorama East?

I might be looking to purchase a condo out in AC and would love some guidance or thoughts on good buildings/locations.

Thanks,

LT

Never heard of a condo that poker players gravitate to in AC: poker players tend to get comped and stay a the casino (at least in the beginning part of the week).

I'd be careful with AC real estate. There are quite a debate (outside the poker community) about whether the area will hold up as a casino/resort town with all of the gaming competition that is sprouting up on the East Coast.

Do a _lot_ of research and try to get an amazing deal. AC (itself/proper) does not have the best neighborhoods at the moment either IMHO.

GL in your search

My choice is Showboat because it's connected to the Taj, which means you can find a game an almost any hour. The Showboat and Taj are connected so you do not need to walk outside to get from one to the other (unlike Harrah's and Borgata).

If you move your trip later to March 15/April, there is a great chance Revel -- the brand new casino in AC -- will be open. Revel is right next to Showboat.

I would look into renting a condo instead of buying. If the poker scene dries up, you can leave at the end of your lease. If you buy a condo for $100k, your stuck with something you can't sell and still have to pay the mortgage and those condo fees. You should be able to find a decent rental for around $1K a month.
