Friend and I are looking to take a week trip to AC.

What's the best shot at getting free room(s)?

If you don't know already, you got no shot. Bally's (not the greatest rooms IMO) may package something for you where it will be cheaper because you're staying a week. If you're not a player with some offers they're not going to just give you rooms.

Harrah's and Bally's will give you a free room after playing 5 hours of poker, based on availability, but you can't reserve a free room in advance, before playing. The promotion is Sun-Thurs, but I've read on here that there are sometimes no rooms available on Sun and Thurs. I don't know, I've never tried.

Will be in A.C. 11/8 - 11/11. What are the best poker tournaments structure-wise < $100 and < $150? Always enjoyed the daily Showboat tournaments ($20,000 in chips with no antes) but those are obviously gone now. Anything comparable available in AC?

Are the Borgata dailies the best tournaments in the $100-$150 range in AC?

golden nugget has a 5k guarantee for $100 on 11/8 at 12:15pm and Bally's also has a 5k guarantee for $70 on 11/8 at 7pm

The Bally's tourney is essentially the Showboat one. Lots of the same players, same (I think?) structure, etc.

Best of luck to you Frank. If you wind up running a poker room in AC I pray you run the same Comps as you did at Revel.

Keeping with the Revel theme, the bankruptcy judge helped Atlantic City yesterday. Judge Burns ruled that the city can pursue the collection of a $32 million tax debt.

http://news.yahoo.com/judge-lets-atl...5UsXgAVczQtDMD

This may propel Brookfield to get the transaction completion done on time - Early December.

The reason: If the deal does not complete by then, AC "could sell a tax sale certificate, in which an investor in effect buys a lien against the property, and pays the taxes due on it. The investor gets paid when the property owner pays off the tax debt; if that doesn't happen, the investor can foreclose in two years."

This certainly is something Brookfield does not want after getting the property for the bottom basement price of $110 million. A $32 million premium would be a definite setback.

This also may affect the Trump Taj Mahal Bankruptcy, although a different judge in Delaware is orchestrating that proceeding. Carl Icahn and his team will have to look into this especially since they are seeking a $175 million in "government aid".

If Icahn gets the deal done. Is he just throwing good money after bad? Granted he will own the Taj Mahal outright - 100%. But with the continued monthly losses, the bad will to employees and customers, can the property be refurbished to its previous higher standards? And with the business climate still trending downward in AC why even try? Note: Still well aware that the 3000 workers that will be harmed by this is a tragedy.

Too many good people getting hurt at an especially downer time of the year if the Taj is closed around December 1st.

He probably has more in mind than simply owning a casino in isolation: it's an entry into online gaming. He most likely has other hotel properties with which he can make a synergistic relationship, unlike the current Taj owners.

Er, no.

He already has the Trop. And the online revenues are pitiful.

Actually, Tropicana is #2 in online casino revenues behind The Borgata. They do not have an online poker room. Granted the results have fallen way short of projections for this first year.

And ........ the only other "hotel/casino" highly visible property his Company owns is the defunct Fontainbleau Las Vegas that has been an eyesore for over 5 years. The only worth of that property is the real estate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fontain...sort_Las_Vegas

He sold the company's substantial Las Vegas casino/hotel holdings in 2008.

He owned the Sands in AC and it was razed. He sold that property to Pinnacle for a potential casino/hotel and that property lays barren.

He and his company are "corporate raiders" of the nth degree. Makes Gordon Gekko of fictional Wall Street , and "Greed is Good", look like a schoolboy.

IF Atlantic City and New Jersey governments bend to Icahn's demands, it will be a travesty. It definitely would be another motivator to move out of the state for New Jersey residents that continue to pay for Atlantic City's existence.

Yeah, so it's something thing like 26 comp dollars for a pack. Buy them before you get to AC and use the comps for meals... it's a much better deal that way.

The Showboat was bought by Stockton College and will become an Atlantic City campus.

This is good for AC as a whole, depending on how often the students actually leave the property.

I was holding out hope that someone would buy it and open up the casino again. Yes, I knew that wasn't really going to happen, but one can dream, right? It's good for AC that it won't be sitting vacant for years. It seems strange, since the boardwalk has always been seen as premium real estate and a tourist attraction. I figured the property would be bought by a hotel or retail developer.

A campus on the boardwalk, feet from the beach, surrounded by casinos. I wonder how many applicants they'll get the first year.
