planning a trip for sept 7-9 and have a free night at trump plaza for friday but the hotel is sold out saturday i think because american idol live is in town( last summer i stayed the weekend Britney spears was lol and walked through a mob scene of tweens and milfs) Anyways some friends booked the weekend at tropicana but for saturday its a little bit more than what i can get ballys for(255 with tax). Read and hear that somtimes security at trop is tight and you need a roomkey to go upstairs
So my question is if i book a 2 bed classic will it be beyond awful like claridge? I dont plan on using the room for more than to shower and sleep. But may have a girl stay in my room among others..

I'm planning on going down to AC on Labor Day weekend (Friday 31st to Monday 3rd). I go to school 50 miles from NYC, but this'll be my first time.

Any thoughts on the cheapest place to stay?

I'm looking for PLO action; I've heard the only place that usually runs it is the Borgata, any suggestions?

And any tips/advice for things to see/do while I'm down there besides poker? I'm not talking about shows and ****, but like best buys for my money for like food and what not.

Labor Day weekend is expensive and books up fast everywhere. Even the cheap rooms in AC are expensive - on Priceline right now, the cheapest room for Saturday night is $152 a night and even the Roadway Inn will set you back $200.

Even Absecon hotels (about 15 minutes away) are listed at $108 a night.

labor day will be tough. stay in absecon.. you'll still pay a lot. borgata is only room spreading plo right now. any room will spread it if there are enough players but i've never heard of it running anywhere outside borgata in ac. go to whitehouse sub shop. it's the famous sub house and it's cheap. good luck.

do you really have to go Labor Day weekend?

This is one of the busiest (most expensive) weekends of the year for AC

you would be much better off going another time value wise.

I had no idea that Labor Day weekend was such a poor time to go; I figured it'd be busy, but not one of the worst weekends of the year.

Honestly, I've been wanting to go to AC for a long, long time now. Just turned 21 in July, and I don't get the chance to get out much because of where I go to school, so I've been waiting for my first free 3 day weekend. But there are a number of casinos that are closer to me, like Parx and Foxwoods.

I think I'll likely end up going to Foxwoods if AC really isn't a good idea. Thanks for the input guys.

Going for the pokers is a great idea...hoping not to spend too much on a room on Labor Day weekend in a shore resort town, not so good.

If you're looking for a three-day weekend, Columbus Day isn't that far off. It'll still be holiday prices, but not as bad as a summer holiday. If you can make a couple day trips before then and get some play on a Borgata card you'll probably be able to get promo rates. Still a $500 weekend, but that's better than $500 for just Saturday.

You say you live 50 miles from NYC, but in which direction? You should be close enough to drive, grind for several hours and drive home.

Will be down for a good chunk of September so some quick questions:

-Anywhere still doing "play X hours to get a free buffet" promo? I know Showboat and Bally's had them in the past. I'll have some friends coming down who play 1-2 so they can play anywhere, and and a few of them love free buffets
-Any of the rooms have the out of town sports games? Some are big baseball fans and would probably want to watch out of town games when they play, if no room has the MLB Extra Innings etc, I'll just send them to A Dam Good Sports Bar.

Yeah, not sure if the Boat is still doing that promo. Check in that thread.

If you and your friends do not already have players cards some of the properties are offering free buffets or free slot play if you sign up. Check with the rooms where you are interested in playing.

I don't think any rooms are offering free buffets to poker players right now but that could change after Labor Day, when business slows down.

Showboat ended that promo the end of July. May be back in the future, but as of now, no go.

A check of my posts ITT will show that I've been one to downplay concerns about personal safety on the AC boardwalk. Unfortunately, observations made this past week force me to have a change of opinion.

On Thursday evening I walked from Revel to Tropicana and back and over the course of there were ZERO uniformed police or security personnel working the boardwalk. I know this to be right because I observed some local youths harassing and touching young women on the boardwalk and I intended to bring this to the attention of a cop or security officer. But I did not see a single one even though I walked three miles. Then it occurred to me that I couldn't recall seeing any police officers on my walk on Wednesday either. I can't recall ever having seen that before and I make that walk every day I'm at the boardwalk casinos.

Not that any of the actions of the youths rose to the level of violent crime, but clearly the lack of any police presence on the boardwalk at certain times is becoming known around town. And that can't be a good thing for the rest of us.

There is some interest for a medium-stakes mix game - specifically $5/10 HORSE - at Revel next Sunday evening (the 9th) evening. If anyone is interested in this, post in the Revel thread.

I looked through this thread before planning a short trip to Atlantic City from New York during my holiday for advice, but my experience turned out not to be wholly perfect so I'll share my story here for another person like me to find.

Atlantic City isn't as nice as Vegas. The boardwalk is.. sketchy, the people outside don't look happy, and the casino's aren't nearly as diverse inside. I planned a return trip with the bus from Port Authority to Tropicana, then a Jitney from somewhere along the boardwalk to the golden nugget for a 4pm tournament advertised on a 'poker in atlantic city' google result page. Turned out, the IMAX in tropicana I decided to spend some time with after I'd converted free slot cash into $$ wasn't running anything, the 4pm tournament at the nugget wasn't going to happen today (but the lady also said it never runs) and after waiting for 20 minutes at the only 1/2 table I had to walk up and ask if I could take a seat in one of the three (!!) free seats before I could start.

Good thing the game was nicely profitable (a guy so drunk he couldn't see, two ladies who's strategy was video poker, etc.) because hey... if you're like me- some young guy looking for a distraction (and hey - vegas seems fun), then just stay in New York. Leave the old ladies to give their cash away to local grinders and drunks and don't take your cash along the boardwalk after 4pm (seriously).

Just my 2 cents. I'm not scared nor high-maintenance (perfectly fine here in my hostel with that cash over any hotel room in AC), it just wasn't that much fun.

none of this is innacurate.. and if you're expecting vegas you will be extra dissapointed. you also happened to have hit the worst spots. if you had decided to get off the bus at caesars or ballys, taken your winnings to the outlets and then taken a jitney to the borgata for a tournament you'd be on here raving about how great ac is. but it is a big dissapointment that all the casinos can't get enough to even run their tournaments and that places like the imax just stop running shows outside peak times.

Agreed. The Nugget poker room should be shut. I guess you did ZERO research (well, besides one google search) before you went. I would suggest you try one more time, and go to the Borgata. Also, being a " young guy looking for a distraction", check out one of the great clubs at the Borg.
