If u want the head to higher ground Bally's would be the best bet. But seriously, I wouldn't be within 100 miles of AC this weekend.

I may go down still and call out for work on Sunday. Is this a really bad idea. I'm still tempted to go.

But then I saw this.

I know this is a AC thread and by no means am I trying to hijack but you might be better off going to one of the PA/DE or WV cardrooms this weekend. If this storm hit close to AC you might end up on CNN.

Yea, definitely not planning on going down anymore. The forecast has gotten pretty serious today, Cape May County has already issued an evacuation order.

I posted this in the Taj thread and thought maybe it would be better if it is here.

A NJ State Trooper, who is a neighbor of my sister in Belmar, told her that they are planning to execute mandatory evacuations of shore towns on Saturday. Of course this could change if the storm's path or intensity changes. People who do not evacuate will be subject to arrest. His words, "we aren't going to have another New Orleans."

Friday should be fine and I'll be going as planned. But Saturday and Sunday are out for me.

Friday actually.

"Preparedness has issued a voluntary evacuation for the barrier islands as of 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. A mandatory evacuation will commence at 6 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 26 for all barrier islands and mainland communities east of Route 9 and Corbin City."

That includes Atlantic City.

Please STAY OUT OF A.C. THIS WEEKEND!!

As big a booster as I am for this city and its poker rooms - this is no time to be in town. The place is shutting down and closing. Literally.

Evacuations are ordered for Friday (today) and some casinos, from what I've heard, are already shut down. Buses are cancelling trips.

Hotels are no longer taking reservations and mostly not even allowing those with reservations to check in.

Table games are being closed down and locked up.

Frankly, by Saturday, I expect the place to be a ghost town - maybe a few workers and police and other emergency vehicles.

I'm sure that everything will re-open as soon as possible, but at least through Sunday - forget it.

Based on the track of the storm, ANY card room in the area is probably something to avoid.... even if they have big backup generators.

Trip reports from this weekend, if anyone's silly enough to not take a break!

I just got an automated message from the Taj Mahal because I have a reservation with them tonight. They are evacuating as of 8PM tonight and no reservations are being accepted for August 26th, 27th & 28th. It also stated that the state of New Jersey is issuing a mandatory evacuation. I am looking forward to going down next weekend.

Sorry dude I'm not...I have to pay for my rooms but I cancelled it last night. Play mostly at the Borgata but Taj gives me better rates for some reason. Still got an automated message though anyways.

It's weird seeing that there are no games currently running @Borgata according to their live feed.

Considering that they are closed, I would think it a lot weirder if they HAD games running!

thinking about staying in AC for 3 weeks from Dec 16th to Jan 10th. Where can I stay in AC for less than 1200 besides the Irish Pub Inn. Do you think I can sublease a place for 3 weeks? Is there another inn or hotel I should look into? Thanks for your help.

By the way, I regretfully put my Atlantic City apartment on the block. Looks like Florida is my new home.

You can find it in the marketplace forum, and see my ad, with the pics. It is oceanfront, 24 hr security, (plus we pay off the cops with coffee and donuts) just two short blocks from the under construction Hard Rock.

You will still have the view of the Boardwalk and ocean. I saw an interactive architect's 3-D rendering in the AC Press. The buildings in the pics are coming down in September. So replace that with a view of the scene at the new HR. They are supposed to be opening a beach bar, and the telescope is included in the price, as well as the 50 inch flat screen.

Light up while you do this so you can see what it is to be me. In fact, you now can be...

From the CET Atlantic City page:

Quote:
Our Atlantic City casinos are still closed today due to Hurricane Irene, but will be opening Monday, August 29 at 12:00PM, EST. Please check back for further updates.
Stan posted the same opening time, with the same check back for more details, for the Borgata on their thread.

Yeah! A.C. poker will be back up and running!

Another option is to park at a casino. CET properties (Bally's, Caesar's, Showboat, and Harrah's) give free parking if you earn 25 tier credits (an hour and 15 minutes of 1/2 NLHE - easy to do). Also, the standard parking fee in A.C. is $5, with a free transfer to another casino. Park once, and leave the car for 3 weeks for no charge.

Just in case it wasn't clear, I closed the old Atlantic City About Town Thread because it had a bunch of stuff that wasn't appropriate for the B&M Forum in it (where to find hookers is one example that I can think of off the top of my head). But I had it moved back to this forum because a couple people wanted it here.

You can use this thread for anything that is OK to discuss according to 2+2's T&C. If you have any further questions or comments, send me a PM or post in the Moderation Discussion Thread. Thanks!

Looking for the least expensive casino option for 7 guys to stay at September 10. Is there any promotions going on? Probably just 2 rooms and cram everyone in -- thoughts?

Lots of promotions going on, but keep in ming that Saturday night is the toughest and most expensive.

Every poker room has a poker rate, but it is based on availability. I don't have the full list, and they are all likely to be changing (less expensive) after Labor day.

Best advice I can give is for you to call the casinos you're interested in and ask.

Off the top, I would think that Resorts, Golden Nugget, and ACH would be most likely to be cheapest. But I could be wrong.

And none of them have poker. Ok, ACH has 6 tables now. Not much poker, but some.
