In most other parts of the country maybe. In nyc nah. The whole process of taking driving lessons and then setting an appointment at the dmv and also taking a drivers exam? Ain’t nobody got time for that lol

Too busy and don't think I'll ever need it. It's not worth the time or effort to me. My wife drives, if I ever need it

I'm sure you don't need a car. Chicago's train system is pretty good, not quite as good as NYC, but one of the better ones for sure.

Oh, for sure. I'm sure the cost of insurance and parking alone is way less. Chicago is also a lot more spread out and I could definitely see how it easier to have a car there, more people have driveways and there is more parking in general there. NYC is different because it's designed to be a walking, public transportation and biking city and going further in that direction with each passing year.

Also they’re making certain bust streets bus only, which creates more congestion along with bus lanes

You're missing out on a hell of a lot of vacation options if you can't drive though.

If I lived in Manhattan again I wouldn't own a car either (unless I my salary was another $100k+ or something, even then there are Zipcar type options available that are likely better value), but having a license just don't see any downside to it at all. It's way more common in the UK than it is here to not have a license also, fwiw.

I only (re)learned last year and regretted not doing it ages ago. The added freedom it gives you is actually remarkable, don't realize it until you have it. If I decide I want to go and play poker at 1am I now can without having to worry about anything.

Well, my wife drives. I haven't taken a vacation without her to anywhere but Vegas or Montreal since I met her in 2012, and I don't need a car in either of those cities. Uber and Lyft if I really need it

Fair enough. Next time you're in Chicago happy to drive us to the casino (particularly as I had to quit drinking too so makes no difference to me on that front!).

I might start playing at harrahs since Borgata is being stingy with rooms and the games there are so nitty now

How are they with room comps?

If I play 8 hours in one day will I get rooms?

How about the other poker rooms?

Based on my experience, I have played only poker at Harrahs and Trop(both Caesars rewards casinos) and I have never gotten comped room offers from them based on my poker play. Only Borgata/MGM has given me offers based on poker alone.

The low limit games 1/2 and 1/3 games are soft at Harrahs and Trop but I found some of their games to be quite nitty as well.

I’m taking my yearly trip down to Atlantic City with the adult family members, and this year it was decided to stay on the Boardwalk, rather than at the Borgata, since that’s where everyone stayed the last three years. Of course, there will be a day (or night) reserved for those who want to play poker (NLHE) which I will be a part of.

If I am correct, I believe the only other non-Borgata casinos that offer poker right now, are Tropicana and Harrahs? We will be staying on the Boardwalk, so Tropicana will be easy to get to, and we want to try Vic and Anthony’s at Golden Nugget, so we will be in the marina district for at least a night.

If we only had one night reserved for poker, should we begin at Tropicana or Harrah’s? Maybe we will have two, and it will be a moot point, but for now, I’m banking on one. I realize that either of those rooms will not be as big or fancy as Borgata, but would I have trouble finding a game on let’s say, a Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday night (we will be in AC Sunday-Friday). While I am not a regular player by any standards, I used to play around once a month at either Twin River or Mohegan before the pandemic hit and consider myself to have a basic understanding of the game, and know I have much room for improvement.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.

Tropicana’s poker room is brighter and cleaner than Harrah’s and the play is more relaxed, friendly and casual. It will have fewer games than Harrah’s but a recreational player will usually prefer Trop.

There will be games Wed, Thurs and Friday.

Thank you for this advice, I will definitely check it out and hopefully bring a few others.

Just from looking at the Bravo app, it’s amazing to me how much more action that Borgata has over Tropicana and Harrah’s. I understand that the sizes of the rooms are a big factor, but other than that, is one room clearly run better than the other?

Borgata room is gigantic compared to those other two options and more games are spread at borgata.

There was a time when Borgata was the best run room and deserved to be the biggest, but those days are past. It draws the most players now because (1) Borgata is the best Casino/hotel in AC and (2) poker players are creatures of habit.

TBH, none of the rooms in AC are run well anymore. But none of them are run so bad that it will matter to you if you’re playing only one or two days. You probably won’t even notice the little problems that the regulars complain about.

Borgata was the best run room for years, that is, until Vincent took over.

That’s a matter of opinion. It certainly was at one time, but I’ll take the Hard Rock over Borgata any day.

Hard Rock is definitely on my list of properties to check out, or at least walk through. Assuming Borgata hasn’t changed that much over the last 12 months, it will be interesting to compare.

I also want to check out Resorts, as I believe I can use points earned at Mohegan Sun CT, and I here the Italian restaurant Caprichio (sp) is very good.

Probably will just play poker for a day or two though, unless we’re going for a mini vacation, it’s not worth a special trip to me, being spoiled with Foxwoods/Mohegan/MGM , and hopefully soon again Bally’s Twin.

As noted above…no. That’s the one thing that keeps if from being perfect IMO.

The only poker on the Boardwalk right now is at The Trop.

Hi, do you still get comp rooms for Borgata for playing poker room?

I used to get comp rooms in Borgata by playing poker only, but after Covid, Borgata didn't offer any comp or discount room even I played so much poker.

Some players do, others don’t. There’s little rhyme or reason to it. I had maintained earning an average of 16-17 comp dollars per day for years, played regularly and until a month ago could get comped rooms most Fridays and a lot of Saturdays. In the blink of an eye all comped room offers went away and never came back. I called to see if there had been a mistake, was promised that someone would get back to me, and never heard again from them.

I have heard it’s related to the address on your account - if you live too close they aren’t going to offer rooms
