On that note, though, I would love if there was a NYC > AC Ferry

Why not just rent a car if the alternatives are uncomfortable?

A lot of people in NYC do not have driver's licenses. I know when I lived there I didn't.

Way bigger barriers to entry. Costs multiple times as much, requires a license, requires sobriety.

I guess I am more tolerant to uncomfortable transportation than other people are. I don't consider the subway/MTA bus I take on a near daily basis to be comfortable (I am borderline scared of the subway based on what I see lately), but I am willing to take uncomfortable trains/buses/Ubers to go play poker. Sometimes I wait in the Trenton train station full of homeless people for close to an hour after midnight after playing in Parx.

I've never driven in my life, won't ever drive.

I'm happy to take the bus, though. F Greyhound tho, lol

AC is one of the biggest shitholes in America. If poker comes to NY/upstate NJ, there will be no reason to go there anymore, so one need not worry about buses, trains, ferries, etc. That place has been on life support for a number of years, put casinos in NY and it'll be completely dead.

Congrats?

I'm totally fine with public transport too, not sure what your point is. Doesn't mean that some methods are better than others.

There are a lot worse places then AC. But yes bring real casinos to nyc and ac gambling houses will lose a lot of business, a lot of business

Because I won't ever leave the city, it's a pain the ass, expensive and I have no need for it. I wouldn't really call it ruling out, more then I know I'll never need to.

If you live in nyc and aren’t rich you don’t “need” a car. It’s an expensive expense that is unnecessary unless you choose to life the I don’t ride public transportation lifestyle.

Haha, he knows, he used to live here and knows me in real life. Now he lives in Chicago and has settled into that way of living, which is great, I love Chicago too. I was born and raised in Manhattan, and there really aren't the resources to learn how to drive growing up here. My high school offered an afterschool class but I think it was fairly expensive and I never really cared about it, so it wasn't worth it to me.

I miss the trains, too, well, I wish it still existed. I was briefly not living here during that time. However, it was my understanding all it did was go from here>Philly>AC, which you can still do now

In NYC, driving is more inconvenient than public transport. A ton of traffic, parking takes 30 mins + $$$. It’s faster to take the subway or even walk.

Even if you are opposed to taking public transportation, you need to do a ton of traveling before taking Uber everywhere becomes more expensive than owning a reasonably priced car, between the cost to buy the car, insurance, gas, parking, maintenance, tickets, etc

You don't "need" a car in Chicago either fwiw, public transport here is as good as it is in NYC really, it's just easier/less expensive/less of a ballache to have a car here if you do want one (as with most things here vs NYC tbf). We didn't have one the first 2 years I was here.

Even if you don't drive regularly, why NOT get a driver's license anyway?

If you travel anywhere, you can go rent a car.

Or you can borrow a buddy's car (or family member).

Just seems like the benefits outweigh the relatively low cost.
