Yes, but I specifically said they were running dailies and you felt the need to correct me to say they were running dailies. Then you correct the guy other guy when you were completely off base the entire time.

Try to actually read what people write next time.

I have read and know your stance on “real” tournaments aka a major tourney series versus the dailies offered by Rivers/Philly Live. But as the others who have replied , it was just simply a question about tournaments in general . I know it’s frustrating that Borgata has not announced a WPT tournament series yet but I’m sure you are quite aware that due to ongoing pandemic and the lack of dealers available in the area to run a large series , it’s simply a business decision for them not to run them at this time. The fact that Rivers/Philly Live has brought out daily tournaments to the Philly/AC area is a start of hopefully more tournaments soon. Hopefully you can get out to Vegas or Maryland and play a “real” tournament soon.

Tonight at midnight, the state's supplemental unemployment benefits will end. This is said to be one of the reasons there's a dealer shortage. Hopefully now, there will be dealers crawling back to work and we can get some tournaments at the borgata

It has also been said that it's not a reason, or at least not a compelling one:

The preliminary study, conducted by Nicolas Petrosky-Nadeau and Robert G. Valletta, found even the extra $600 per week in unemployment benefits provided last year by the federal government early in the COVID-19 pandemic had minimal deterrent effect on reemployment for all except the lowest-paid positions, such as food services.
Don't be shocked when this is not the panacea to labor shortages that some make it out to be.

In a state like New Jersey where dealers take home their tips, their salary is what like minimum wage or below? That would mean they would qualify for peanuts in unemployment but in a state like PA, where their tips go on their paycheck, they would qualify for more.

I know a lot of dealers that simply left the industry all together and are doing different things.

You have demonstrated why many dealers don't want to come back to the job and have moved on. Who wants to put on with people who think of them as such? You might want to consider working on your social skills and/or attitude.

I also don’t think borgata would rush to bring back tourneys considering they are running an online event currently

The poker room staff probably has zero participation in any online activities. And there is probably a small overlap of players who would play both. If they had the dealers, they would be holding in person tournaments regardless of their online ones. Maybe they wouldn't overlap the major live series' like the Borgata Summer Open, but they would still hold their normal daily tourneys.

I noticed a dealer from Bally's dealing at the Borgata earlier today. If Bally's doesn't re-open their poker room, their former dealers who want remain in the field will be available for hire by the Borgata when they feel they have the player base to resume tournaments. I suspect they're waiting for the second COVID wave to define itself with respect to mask/vaccine mandates and whether or not they might have to close again, and how the public will react, before proceeding with expanding their staff to accommodate tournaments.

Even if the dealers take tips home, they are reported and taxed. I cannot say for certain but I would expect since they are taxed they would also count toward unemployment.

In AC (at least in Borgata) Dealers cash out the tips just the way the players would. I assume they are required to declare certain minimum amount of tips (just like the servers and the bartenders), but that probably does not comprise all the tips most of them receive. Kapeesh?

Quite possible. But it is also my understanding that the house counts and records these tips. Unlike a waitress at the local diner, a dealers actual tips can be tracked. Even if dealers are allowed to under report tips, I doubt the are allowed to under report to min. wage. And definitely they will not be allowed to report below min. wage. It has been many years, but as I recall if your tips are not enough to get you to min. wage the employer must make up the difference.

Also enforcement for reporting tips is pushed onto the employer. If audited and they are caught allowing excessive under reporting, the employer can be penalized.

Playbig posited that NJ dealers might be reporting at or under minimum. Under, I can say is not happening. Even reporting at minimum is not likely. But under reporting to some degree is likely. This would lower the unemployment they get for the state portion but not the federal supplemental part.

don't know about other AC casinos, but Borg dealers are under tip compliance so there's no need for the casino to track anything

Anybody remember Atlantic City back up to around 2010? Seems like last ten years it’s a shell of itself. I remember the taj/Tropicana being jumping at that point. Idk if it’s just that I’ve gotten older and I just don’t have same feelings as when in earnestly twenties but I remember it just being a whole different exciting place to be. Wondering how others in same age range feel? 36yo

Absolutely. I used to walk between showboat & taj & play both on a trip.
They both had decent action ( showboat small tourneys were fun).
Back then borgata was in their lower level( moved upstairs 2006 ?)

20 years ago, trop 7.5/15? pink chip limit was great.

I'm 37 and I've been going to AC since I was 21 around 2005. AC had a roughly decade once the surrounding states opened casinos, but had started making a comeback before COVID. Obviously, it wasn't back to the days when the Trop and the Taj were the places to play in the city, and losing the Showboat sucked too, but things were rebounding nicely in 2019. COVID completely changed everything for poker, not just in AC, but seemingly all along the East Coast. I'm not sure it will ever recover, but I hope it does.

Anyone experience/hear about the vibe this season so far for NFL Sundays? Anywhere in town that stands out as a good time for sitting, eating/drinking, betting while watching games?

Also wondering if the in-person windows for setting up online accounts get overwhelmed on Sunday mornings.

I'm thinking about a trip to AC (first in, errr... 5 years?) to enjoy some football, like we do in Vegas - sports books or watch areas like Westgate theater.

i watched the the games this past Sunday at the Borgata and spent time between the sportsbook and the outdoor beer garden. Decent crowd but nothing crazy. The beer garden has lots of tv's and some large projector screens showing the games, as well as games like cornhole and foosball tables set up. Food was underwhelming though, its better inside at the sportsbook but you have to get there relatively early to get a table. Not sure of what the other casinos do for football Sunday's but overall the Borgata was a good time

At the sports bar you have to spend $75 to get a seat at borgata, **** that. I probably should have sat at harrahs they have a lounge area

Oceans has a big-ish book and cocktail service. Idk about food.

Caesars/wild west has a similar sized space that has some limited food and drinks.

Both are more vegasy.

Borgata is like going to a cooler version of buffalo wild wings.

caesars book at wild wild west is a great place to watch the games - was there on the first week of the season. be forewarned - it's $30 to get a single seat PER game. $30 for 1PM games, $30 for 4PM games. they sold all of the seats when I was there so clearly people (including myself) are paying.
